Aibu to be fed up of seeing Boris elbow bumping

Just that really...

I know the elbow thing became widespread in the Ebola outbreak, but bearing in mind one of the words in his own slogan is “space”, why does Boris insist on putting his face much closer to other people’s respiratory membranes than necessary with this daft gesture? What’s wrong with a special wave or a new covid salute?

YANBU the man is an incompetent idiot. I wish we didn’t have to see or hear him at all, let alone elbow bumping.

Or staying at home like everyone else?

Especially as we're supposed to sneeze into elbows!
MadeOfStarStuff · 18/02/2021 22:44

In real life don’t people just gesture awkwardly instead of shaking hands? I’ve never seen anyone seriously do the elbow bump!

I understand why it was used during the Ebola outbreak when the danger different and advice wasn’t to stay 2m apart, but I think it’s pointless in the current pandemic when everyone should stay apart as much as possible. And bumping elbows to make a big show of doing it is not a valid reason to not follow social distancing.

FoxyTheFox · 18/02/2021 22:48

Or staying at home like everyone else?

He came to my region at the weekend at the invite of our bell-end MP for the "essential business" of officially opening a factory that has already been open for several months. Apparently it is appropriate to travel 250+ miles during a pandemic for this purpose.

Honeyroar · 18/02/2021 22:51

100% agree with you. It completely makes a mockery of social distancing- and makes him look like a tit. (Or a bigger tit anyway)

Dollhousedoor · 18/02/2021 22:59

I said exactly this the other day and totally agree with you, it makes you go closer to someone than necessary and we are also encouraged to sneeze and cough into our elbows - why then put that into someone's personal space. Unnecessary gesture - just nod, wave or say hello, its lovely to meet you!

It's so last year isn't it

The hospital consultant ive been seeing does

I felt it would be too rude to refuse 😳

StoneofDestiny · 18/02/2021 23:03

I wish somebody would elbow him straight out of existence

HappydaysArehere · 18/02/2021 23:03

This could have been written by me. Ridiculous and as has been said breaks the space rule. Every time I see it I exclaim why not just wave.
