Been asked to shield due to fallopian tube removal?

I was emailed and told I'm now vulnerable etc.
However I do not know why.
I rang the GP receptionist who said in 2018 I'd had a salpingectomy, which was a fallopian tube removed due to ectopic pregnancy. She asked if it was about my spleen. I said no.
Not sure how that constitutes high risk..I thought it may be mental health (suicidal thoughts and behaviours) or past gestational diabetes. Has anyone had similar? I don't feel I can justify being off work morally due to having a tube removed.

There's a thread over on the Coronavirus board where quite a few have received a shielding letter with gestational diabetes in the past being the strongly suspected reason.

I think it’s the gestational diabetes. You don’t have to shield if you don’t want to.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 18/02/2021 15:21

There was another thread on here earlier today where a lot of people with gestational diabetes had been sent letters too, so possibly could be that?
Sorry I don't have the link

Bubblemonkey · 18/02/2021 15:23

It’s advise, not compulsory

Thank you everyone. Interesting about the gestational diabetes. I'm going to work anyway, but feeling guilty I've now been booked in for the vaccine next week when others haven't.

That's weird - I lost both my tubes to ectopics and wasn't told to shield

Plutoh · 18/02/2021 15:32

Don't feel guilty OP, you have not played the system, and every jab in someone's arm is a step closer to normality.

If your levels are now 'normal', it's probably just a computer software sweet that picks up on any history of diabetes.

Someone1987 · 18/02/2021 15:32

@ivfbeenbusy it is odd. She told me that was the reason...

@ivfbeenbusy (love your name) same here.

Op, no I haven’t had a letter and have neither fallopian tube x

Plutoh · 18/02/2021 15:32

Sweep, gosh an inappropriate typo there considering the subject matter...

Someone1987 · 18/02/2021 15:34

@Plutoh it made me smile lol. Thank you...you are right about being one step closer to normality..
