AIBU to not want my 7 year old to watch The Terminator? DH thinks it's fine. I do not. So The Terminator and a 7 year old, yes or no?

NO.

I am sure it's an 18.

Violent, bad language, and a sex scene.

No WAY would I let a 7 y.o. watch it!

toolazytothinkofausername · 17/02/2021 20:56

Suitable for 15 years and over.

However, if your DH has seen the film before and promises to fast forward the scary/inappropriate scenes then I would let the 7 year old watch it with DH.

Propagandalf · 17/02/2021 20:56

It's an 18 certificate mainly for the swearing. So I think it's down to parents' discretion. I saw it at around age 14/15 and I was fine with it. Terminator 2 is definitely the best of the series though. The ones after T1 and T2 pale in comparison!

buenavistabelle · 17/02/2021 20:57

No. Made this mistake when our son was maybe 10? Had to turn it off as he was terrified and started crying.

alltoomuchrightnow · 17/02/2021 20:57

no way!

ArtfulScreamer · 17/02/2021 20:57

I watched the terminator as a young teen and it frightened me, infact I'd still not jump at the chance to watch it. I'd definitely not let a 7 year old watch it.

LizBennet · 17/02/2021 20:58

Violent, raunchy sex scene... it’s not for small children, no.

Figgygal · 17/02/2021 20:58

No that’s bloody outrageously out of order it’s sooo not age appropriate

Trumplosttheelection · 17/02/2021 20:58

It's really violent. Think about the scene where Sarah's flatmate and boyfriend are murdered. And the murder of about thirty police. And there's a fairly explicit sex scene.
What's wrong with your husband that he thinks this is ok?

Crockof · 17/02/2021 20:59

There is definitely a difference between the early terminators and the more recent ones, as in the earlier ones are more suitable however I'd say 7 was Still too young. 12+ i think

Undies1990 · 17/02/2021 21:02

No, absolutely not appropriate for a 7 year old for the reasons mentioned above. Is your DH mis-remembering the film?

PaulaProctor · 17/02/2021 21:03

He and I have very different memories of it. I was terrified when I saw it at a party when I was 12 in the 80s. He seems to think that level of fear only applies to me. Hmmm.

No- just no

Welovewhitenoise · 17/02/2021 21:11

No!

TheresAnEyeInMeSoup · 17/02/2021 21:12

Absolutely not. I watched The Mask with my 8 year old tonight and even I forgot how violent that was (loads of gun scenes, not to mention the objectification of Cameron Diaz). It pales into insignificance when compared with the terminator. Way too much violence, bad language etc in the terminator.

PaulaProctor · 17/02/2021 21:14

The 7 year old isn't watching the film. We are reading a story instead.
Thanks for confirmation. I was doubting myself then.

My dad let me watch the last 20 mins when I was a similar age and I was completely traumatised and slept in their bed for several nights, my mum was fuming. I was not a particularly sensitive child.
