Good or bad idea and reasons for your opinion?
I don’t feel strongly either way but I am curious about what aspects of becoming a Republic are more beneficial than the UK’s stable current system.

Get rid... not one valid reason for them

Thewithesarehere · 19/02/2021 22:56

@VinylDetective

How can you respect a system that protected and promoted someone like him for decades? How is is it one rule for them and another for the rest of us?

I don’t think the system protected or promoted him. The allegations only emerged relatively recently and he still hasn’t been charged with anything.

I think he’s a vile human being and I wouldn’t want to breath the same air but British and American law work on the presumption of innocent until proved guilty so he’s being treated exactly like the rest of us.

Yes he hasn’t been charged because RF refused to take part in the FBI investigation. Quite convenient that his great friend and financial partner committed a timely ‘suicide’.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2021 22:58

Makes you laugh - the Queen volunteered!
She was forced - and only since 1992

Come on now - didn't John Major say the tax was already going to happen, and that it actually starting soon after the Windsor fire was a mere coincidence? Grin

Think of her spendthrift mother who left huge debts

Think, too, of the millions worth of jewellery she left, which was found in the QM's cupboards although it was claimed to have already been passed to the Queen
Yet another tax dodge ... nothing done about it of course

VinylDetective · 19/02/2021 23:20

This might work with the Epstein thing - and of course it's eclipsed much else

It was the “Epstein thing” we were talking about.

StoneofDestiny · 19/02/2021 23:31

Laughable how the royals are all in a flap about the fact that Harry and Meghan are going to give an interview to Oprah - when they should be addressing the fact that Andrew is refusing to give an interview to the FBI.

The sound of silence - what a convenient distraction H&M are providing for Andrew as he is protected idling behind palace walls.

So what do you say about this business of Andrew @VinylDetective?
VinylDetective · 19/02/2021 23:42

Which business in particular?

turquoisewaters · 19/02/2021 23:45

There are a lot of individuals who are very wealthy (self-made or through inheritance) and do not contribute much to the country.

The Queen may be a billionaire but she is generating vast amounts of revenue for the nation.

VinylDetective · 19/02/2021 23:47

She isn’t a billionaire, she’s quite a long way down the Times rich list.

Thewithesarehere · 19/02/2021 23:59

@VinylDetective

Which business in particular?
The one where it’s hard to question him and his liaisons.
OnceUponANightmare · 20/02/2021 01:10

@Cam77

I would rather have the queen or even King Charles than a President Trump, Johnston or Sturgeon.

..... or how about an elected rolling ceremonial President like Ireland - Basically similar to the monarchy but without all the elitism, privilege, without all the bowing and scraping and obscene wealth, dodgy mates and political interference.

How about that?

Exactly. And obviously it being a pre-condition that this person was not aligned to any political party. And a proper constitution defining their role so that they intervened if Parliament was illegally prorogued, but not for their own tax affairs.
OnceUponANightmare · 20/02/2021 01:22

Brand Britain is very strong right now

Your cognitivr dissonance has got so far from reality on Earth that it make the Perseverence Rover seem close by.

This. Why should we fund protection for a paediphile? If he is innocent why are they obstructing an investigation? And obstructing and investigation and attempting to pervert the course of justice is a crime for the plebs. I'd have a lot more respect for the monarchy if they gave him up and let him go to prison where paedophiles belong.
TheSandman · 20/02/2021 03:33

You think?

The Union Flag is certainly being slapped on every product that doesn't move fast enough to get out of the way in a whistling in the dark, trying to hold the crumbling Union together propaganda drive. Outwith these islands and Gove and Johnson Feverdream of Global Britain it is a very tarnished brand indeed. And sinking fast.

KeflavikAirport · 20/02/2021 07:04

You can add Pitch@Palace to that long list of Andy’s dodgy business deals: www.google.fr/amp/s/www.spectator.co.uk/article/prince-andrew-s-pitch-palace-was-bad-news-for-businesses/amp

TipseyTorvey · 20/02/2021 07:34

Agree that Andrew not being made speak to the FBI means I will always view the monarchy as corrupt and think their time should be over once the Queen dies. Its become even more obvious during covid how pointless they all are. Desperate for their crowds of flag wavers they even broke lockdown to travel around the UK. I don't even click on stories about Meghan and Harry anymore. I liked them, but they're gone now, good for them.

But that’s crazy. He’s not a US citizen. The FBI have no right or jurisdiction to interrogate British citizens on British soil.

Similar to how we British cannot fly Scotland Yard to the US and demand to interrogate the American woman that hit and killed Harry Dunn with her car.

Do you really want foreign police to be able to just fly to the U.K. and start interrogating British citizens? It’s against every international law there is.

PlanDeRaccordement · 20/02/2021 07:52

It’s what Interpol is for and allowed to do. If the FBI had a shred of evidence, Interpol would have taken it up and coordinated talking to Prince Andrew.

merrymouse · 20/02/2021 08:08

Yes, abolish them.

The Queen made her feelings clear back in 2011 when her response to Andrew’s dodgy dealings was to award him an honour.

An action worthy of Trump from someone we can’t even vote out.

Am so fed up with the papers focusing on Harry and Meghan.

@merrymouse

"Am so fed up with the papers focusing on Harry and Meghan."

Well, you won't have to put up with them much longer, as they've been stripped of royal patronages and honorary military awards and can live in USA as 'ordinary' people.

No guarantee that the papers won’t continue to splash every imagined feud over their front pages!

Daily Mail have gone full on today with their ' they have snubbed the Queen after all she did for them' talk!

I’m not sure this is entirely true or Ann Sacoolas would surely have faced charges by now?

I’m really surprised that people are prepared to commit libel so publicly by labelling as a paedophile someone who hasn’t even been charged with an offence.

KeflavikAirport · 20/02/2021 08:36

I don’t think Andy is a paedophile. I do think it behoves someone living the life of Riley at vast public expense to do due diligence on the people they choose to hang out with.

He is as free to sue in court as any other subject if he wants to protect his reputation.
