Another Covid one sorry but am genuinely unsure. I am breastfeeding 10 month old dd. I have the option of booking my jab. Not ready to stop feeding yet due to many reasons.

Official guidance changed in late Jan to say breastfeeding mums can have the jab.

What would you do?
YABU - to turn down jab
YANBU - to turn down jab

@NewScone

They've said it's safe. They are very careful with things like that. Last thing they would want would be load of compensation claims in the future
This isn’t correct , the government have protected companies from having pay out for any claims due to side effects/long term issues

People have decided to make the covid vaccine into a bogey man. The absence of evidence of a certain risk doesn’t mean that it might cause that risk. This whole rubbish with women saying they will turn it down if they plan to have more children as said on this thread is based on absolutely nothing and has been disproven but the view still persists.

What possible potential mechanism could the covid vaccine affect your fertility?

With breastfeeding it’s also been made clear that it’s safe and that it can actually give your child some immunity. That’s the facts. All medications can have a side effect for certain individuals. You might be one of the unlucky few who get the side effect but it’s extremely unlikely you will and not worth turning it down for.

I take IVF meds and if you read all the possible side effects of ivf!! Up to and including a perforated bowel. In reality these are extremely extremely rare.

Re swine flu. Based on rough stats of U.K. alone narcolepsy affected 0.0001% of people who had the swine flu vaccine. Its complete stupidity to turn down the covid vaccine using how 0.0001% of people who had a totally different vaccine 12 years ago got narcolepsy.

I'm still BF my 17 month old and plan to have the jab when offered. She's only down to one feed just before bed though, so limited BF-ing. Think I might feel more hesitant with a young baby who is exclusively fed (not sure why specifically, perhaps the unknown risk - even if likely infinitesimal)
