Depression/anxiety a reason to take a COVID jab

Today offered COVID jab by text thought it was a scam but on ringing gp turns out I’m classed as vulnerable as had previous mental health issues. I don’t have now and not taken medication in over 2 years. She said that’s fine can still have one if want.
To be honest I’m not that fussed for getting vaccinated I think have had it and definitely been exposed yet tested negative. I know so many people want this jab badly so should I decline and wait till my age group comes up which is last.
I think we will all be forced into having the jab if want to travel and I’m concerned about pressure from employers. So regardless of my reservations I am thinking may as well take the jab now get over side effects while in this lockdown.
But just don’t know what right thing to do is .
Any thoughts mumsnetters.

Do it
If you want.
Don't need mumsnet approval

The more people vaccinated the better. If you've been offered it take it.

VashtaNerada · 16/02/2021 22:22

I would get it done if they’ve offered it to you, it’s not cheating.

CoffeeRunner · 16/02/2021 22:23

Well mental health alone hasn’t been a priority on any of the lists I’ve seen (working at a vaccination centre). Are you sure you aren’t eligible on other grounds too? Asthma perhaps?

If you want the vaccine & you’ve been offered it, take it. If it’s been offered to you then you won be depriving somebody else.

PersonaNonGarter · 16/02/2021 22:25

Take it. Don’t over think it.

Purpl · 16/02/2021 22:28

I definitely have no asthma or underlying conditions. Only other health issues have been migraines and they aren’t in the list. Maybe my Gp just chose the conditions they thought important. It must be awful for people with ocd germ phobia at the moment.

I think people with schizophrenia and something else are on list?

From what we know about side effects they are mild and only last a few days, I wouldn’t worry about that

MeBingandBong · 16/02/2021 22:42

My partner just said that some of the vaccines for it have to be stored below -70 degrees and so they can’t always be transported between one area and another so for instance in London the vaccines will get used up very quickly but if ur in an area less populated, then they’ve probably vaccinated the vulnerable people and now rolling it out to others so it doesn’t get wasted off.

Sapho47 · 16/02/2021 22:48

Damn I've not been offered it for those reasons.

I'd love to get it done ASAP for travel if they decide to go down the vaccine passport route

Bipolar. But then not everyone with those diagnosis is classed as having a severe mental illness. I would imagine that you would at least be under a mental health team if your illness was severe enough to be in a particular group for the vaccine. Like someone else has said though, maybe they has spare vaccine and were working down the list.
