Now and then I cringe with guilt when I remember how I lost a couple of precious things when I was younger and busy with my small children. A great aunt had been in service as a maid and (in a fairytale scenario) had married her e

Now I want to know how it ended who got married?what got lost?
Presumably married her employer, which back in the day would have been quite the thing

lljkk · 16/02/2021 20:03

me too, OP. Shit happens. It's ok. We can move on & not beat selves up for it. Nobody human manages to not make mistakes. only the deluded think they did that.

BonnieDundee · 16/02/2021 20:09

Yes but I cant say as it might be outing
It was a one-off, I'll never get it back and it can't be replaced.
I have sort of come to terms with it but sometimes I have a bit of regret

zeddybrek · 16/02/2021 20:10

Great aunt worked as a nurse in Libya in the 1960's and gave me her beautiful gold locket from there. I was in my twenties and stupid. Lost it on a night out after drinking and dancing and it pains me I lost it to this day. I have no other jewellery that's either valuable or sentimental.

BonnieDundee · 16/02/2021 20:11

I should add it wasnt my carelessness but someone else's but if I'd been more on the ball I might have managed to save it

I accidentally gave the little knitted hat dc1 wore at birth that we saved for dc2 to wear at birth, in a bag to the charity shop. Still upsets me.

I lost my engagement ring.
DH still hasn't noticed and it has been 11 years.

It was only worth about £200 but at the time we were so broke that was an enormous sum of money.

HurricaneBitch · 16/02/2021 20:18

When I was pg with DS my hands were swollen so I swapped a precious ring to another finger, I then lost it after he was born. DS is 19 now and it still upsets me. Why didn't I just take it off for a few weeks?

cautiouscovidity · 16/02/2021 20:20

When I was younger, I lost a signet ring when cleaning out the rabbit. It must've fallen off and got thrown away with the used sawdust. The ring was given to me for my First Holy Communion a few years previously and I was gutted.

Did you lose the end of your post, OP?

I lost one of my diamond stud earrings just before Christmas - DH had saved for a whole year to buy them for me. I wore them every day for 5 years and adored them. DH has been very pragmatic but I am still devastated :(

Winditbackagain · 16/02/2021 20:25

Mine was also a ring my mum bought me when I was young, I wore it to secondary school one day and I lost it on the field.

Downthefarm · 16/02/2021 23:01

A ring from a dead relative that boyfriend at the time said his jeweller friend would fix for me. Never got it back and the friend denied having had it.

jackstini · 16/02/2021 23:12

My Mum realised she had knocked her engagement ring into the bin - the day after they were emptied

Dd aged about 8 broke one of my Nana's original glass Christmas tree ornaments at my Mum's. I was gutted but my Mum was very pragmatic about it - it had lasted over 70 years

I found I was missing one of my diamond wedding earrings on the first night of our honeymoon - amazingly was in the middle of the bathroom floor when we got back to our villa

Diddumz · 16/02/2021 23:17

Lots of jewellery, including my wedding ring. I know longer wear any jewellery that has any meaning, as I am very careless.

I've lost a mobile phone in the past.

These things happen but can be very upsetting.

Scbchl · 16/02/2021 23:19

I lost a diamond earring my great aunt had given me that my great uncle had bought her when she was 16..my dd had kept them safe in her jewellery box and I took them to wear and lost one after I took it out. Couple of years ago now and still gutted about it.
