To ask how to get rid of irritation bump on tragus

Just posting here for traffic. I got a tragus piercing just before Christmas and have had an irritation bump on it for a few weeks now, I’ve been bathing it in salt water but it’s not going down and if anything looks like it’s getting worse, I’ve not been messing with it only cleaning it. Any ideas how to get rid of it?

My piercings I just leave alone (easier said than doneSmile)and for cleaning use a chamomile tea bag. Brew the tea lie in a very strange position and place it on, you don't need to fiddle.

Minimummymee · 16/02/2021 12:04

I my issue is my mask keeps getting caught on it

You might be putting too much salt in - 1/2 tsp per pint is all that is needed.

I also echo chamomile tea.

When I had similar with my forward helix, my piercer also changed the jewellery to a higher grade - neometal threadless rather than bog standard titanium. That seemed to help.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 16/02/2021 12:13

Sounds gross, but I crushed up as aspirin, made into a paste with water, applied for 10 min, rinsed them warm saline soak, and rinse after. I found the tip on a very popular (at the time) piercing/modification website, it helped out on my rejecting snug piercing.

Oh and yes, make sure the saline isn't too strong as a pp suggested, it should taste like tears, and rinse after, as it can dry your skin out.

PlanBea · 16/02/2021 12:17

Second what PP says about the crushed aspirin paste, I used this successfully on a bump on my helix as recommended by the piercer. I did it daily for about a week I think? To make sure it was definitely gone.

ferretface · 16/02/2021 17:32

I'd buy a wound wash instead of making your own saline, that way you know it is the right mix and sterile. Clean gently twice a day and otherwise just leave it alone.
Really try and avoid bumping it and definitely don't sleep on it. Maybe see if you can wear one of those ear saver things to keep mask ties away from your ears entirely.
Is the jewellery good quality titanium?

DwangelaForever · 16/02/2021 17:43

I used Radox bath salts for my nose bump a few years ago. Also got my nose repierced before Christmas and now the dreaded bump has returned 😭 hoping the radox works again

Wonkydonkey44 · 16/02/2021 17:48

Tea tree oil works miracles .

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/02/2021 18:30

I had the flat cartilage pierced in December and I've got bumps back and front and the front is weeping and bleeding slightly so I'm watching this with interest. I'm cleaning it with a piercing spray and using a hot compress on it as advised by my piercer but I'm worried it's not going to heal. At the moment the front bump looks as though it's growing around the stud (DH reassures me it isn't)!

I hope yours heals ok OP.

littlepattilou · 16/02/2021 18:43

I hope the remedies above do help @Minimummymee Because a friend of my DD's had a tragus piercing six months ago, and that played up too, and got an odd lump on it.

And now she has keloid scarring. Like this...

Tea tree oil helped with irritatation bumps on my forward helix and conch piercings when the sea salt soaks weren't working. If your mask keeps catching on it, might the bar be too long? Unless its a hoop, in which case a flat bar might be better for healing.

Minimummymee · 16/02/2021 22:15

@ferretface the jewellery is titanium so it’s not the jewellery but I think I’ve been over salting the solution. @littlepattilou you have officially scared the living day lights out of me, well done Grin

OP posts:
Minimummymee · 16/02/2021 22:16

@peoniesandpastels the bars the right length, only a tiny bit of space on it because it’s still quite swollen (due to the bump) it’s a labret I have in not a hoop

Prolind spray is good!

VestaTilley · 16/02/2021 22:59

Mine never went until I removed the piercing - years later! Sorry, OP.

Spaceprincess · 16/02/2021 23:06

Prontolind spray , can get it off amazon

indemMUND · 16/02/2021 23:15

I'd recommend you getting the bar changed for a ring if piercers were open. Much less likely to catch (30+ ear piercings and converted to all rings where possible years ago). Hope things improve OP. Neat Tea tree oil applied with a cotton bud has helped me shrink lumps on cartilage piercings before. I had tragus rings from the start and never had a problem.

Nc967125 · 16/02/2021 23:34

Make sure you're not sleeping on that side
Apply aspirin paste as pp said

AleynEivlys · 16/02/2021 23:35

Neat manuka oil applied a few times day for a couple of weeks worked wonders on my daith. I had a massive bump on there that hadn't shifted for months. Totally gone.

Of course, I've now got one on my tragus instead so I'm back at it but confident it won't last long!

It's pricey and smells weird but was worth it for me. I got this one: www.onlynaturals.co.uk/living-nature-100-pure-manuka-oil-10ml?gclid=Cj0KCQiA962BBhCzARIsAIpWEL1llh5KCevmrDgJrDkyAggp2q3mCP4s1OY4HY61RLjtmGGChhlvuuQaAk-zEALw_wcB

I've got 13 piercings in my ears now and all have had bumps on at points. I was horrified at first and panicked about them healing as they looked unsightly. Some would be quite large at the back and a bit gooey at points. I find I'm fine for the first month and then I get a bump - often front and back bumps. My tragus was mainly at the front and I wanted to pick at it! I've done the salt baths, the aspirin, tea tree etc. None made a difference for me. They've all just settled on their own after about 6 months. I occasionally get a blow up if I've caught my hair on one or perhaps slept funny and I wear big over ear headphones to protect my ears too. Don't touch them, they'll settle. My piercer now uses a slightly longer bar for me as I had a couple which blew up so much that the earring started to go through my ear (I have some with a standard plain piercing and I have a few fancier ones). She also puts a flat back rather than a bobble back on for me. I've not changed any to hoops for a good 9 months. I'd forgotten how long I take to heal as I'd not had any done for a while. I got 3 done in August once piercers had reopened. My upper conch has healed it's like I wake up one day and it's normal again and not tender. I got two forward helix added on the same ear at the same time and they're still a bit tender and have bumps. I know I'm almost there though. Be patient, they will heal and don't touch!

The Almighty Bump(s) of Doom. It was truly hideous.

And now! Luckily the tragus bump is on the back so nobody can see it. It's really sore though. Angry

Oh shit, I'm sorry. Blush

If it's any consolation, the keloid scars are easily removed with a quick visit to the hospital. One woman I know was in and out of the surgery room within half an hour.
