Pancakes and gravy

When I tell people this is how I was served pancakes as a kid they look at me like I’m crazy!
In our house it was ash and pancakes with lashings of gravy and it’s was delightful!

I’ve never tried a sweet pancake, but that’s all I hear people talking about! Am I missing out? Do other people eat pancakes with gravy or AIBU?!

Fuck that.

00100001 · 16/02/2021 10:45

Well, i suppose it's not a million miles away from yorkies and gravy, and people have savoury pancakes all the time

I'd be willing to try it.

And of COURSE you're missing out with sweet pancakes.

You know you are!

SpencerGregson · 16/02/2021 10:45

My instinct is that it sounds grim but I guess it's just a different shape to a Yorkshire.

Of more concern is that you're not querying the ash?!

MsChatterbox · 16/02/2021 10:45

Try it with lemon juice and sugar mmmm

MasterBeth · 16/02/2021 10:45

Fag ash and gravy. Grim.

Inpersuitofhappiness · 16/02/2021 10:46

Lol life really is too short.
No pancakes and gravy here.
Not when you can have Nutella on them.

BabyMoonPie · 16/02/2021 10:47

Logically it's OK as pancake batter and Yorkshire pudding batter are the same and you serve YP with gravy. However .... on pancake day pancakes are served with lemon and sugar and anything else is just wrong.

ChristOnAPeloton · 16/02/2021 10:48

Ash!?

Fag ash or corned beef ‘ash?

LolaSmiles · 16/02/2021 10:48

My friend has golden syrup in her leftover Yorkshire puddings. Her logic is that it's a pancake in a different shape.

Pancakes with gravy sounds odd, but it's the same principle I guess.

😂😂😂

Ash being a variation of beef stew...should have preempted that one Grin

You definitely need to try lemon juice and sugar!!

NatMoz · 16/02/2021 10:52

I grew up with pancakes with gravy, mince, mushrooms. Basically the bottom of a shepherd's pie.

In fact, it's likely we'll be having it for our tea tonight!

NatMoz · 16/02/2021 10:52

Ps I think lemon and sugar is disgusting

30not13 · 16/02/2021 10:53

Its hash..

Wheresmyfuckingphone · 16/02/2021 10:53

My Mum calls it this! Except she calls it hash and thought it was "hash Wednesday". Sweet pancakes for life.
idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 16/02/2021 10:54

My grandad always had leftover Yorkshire puddings with sugar!

And it is ash not hash- that's something different

Clevererthanyou · 16/02/2021 10:58

For one horrific moment I also thought you were eating ash of some kind with your pancakes, that with gravy is just unforgivable. Now that I know you’re not a monster and just enjoy the cousin of the Yorkshire pud I think YANBU but you need to make sweet pancakes TODAY! The American fluffy style, not with syrup bleurgh, you need fresh berries and cream Grin

MistleTOEboughski · 16/02/2021 10:59

Well no-one liked my suggestion of gravy with salmon and chips the other day either.

Tangledtresses · 16/02/2021 11:00

I've made savoury pancakes before with ham and cheese
Followed by sweet pancakes 🥞

youkiddingme · 16/02/2021 11:04

Mush prefer my pancakes with hash and gravy than the horrible sweet things.

My friends bakes extra Yorkshire puddings to eat with jam

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 16/02/2021 11:06

Never had it but don’t think it’s weird, it’s basically Yorkshire pudding after all. (I love gravy)

GiveMyRegardsToYourLizard · 16/02/2021 11:07

I had mine with baked beans when I was about 16, it was nice!

HavelockVetinari · 16/02/2021 11:07

This is hilarious!

OP, it's spelt "hash" but a lot of Northern people miss off the H when they pronounce it.
