To buy a loaf sofa without having sat on it?

They are quite expensive but look gorgeous and I love the bright colours. Does anyone have one? Good, bad, indifferent?

They all seem a bit 'loungy'

My best friend has one, it's wide at the seat but short at the back. You can sit up straight but your feet are a long way from the floor.

I've been to a Loaf shop and it was all far too gimmicky for me.

You also have to decide how you prefer to sit on your sofa. I have two Laura Ashley sofas. They are designed very well to sit properly on. An old Parker Knoll Chair I have also encourages me to sit properly. Also have a DFS chesterfield type sofa and it's design over practicality. I can't sit or lounge on it?!

I guess I'm not a 'lounger' I prefer to sit up straight.

Has anyone who said they haven’t brought one because it was too low- thought of just putting higher legs on 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just a thought

Onedropbeat · 17/02/2021 22:43

They sell higher legs but they aren’t high enough and it changes the whole look of the sofa

Also , who wants to buy a sofa and have to adapt it

Avogato · 17/02/2021 22:48

I really wanted a Loaf sofa but having visited a showroom and sat on every sofa in it realised I didn’t find any of them comfortable. I was gutted.

Got a sofa from Sofas and Stuff instead. Highly recommend. I got a sofa which looks like it could have come from Loaf but it’s actually really comfy! And doesn’t require much plumping either.

Juo · 17/02/2021 22:52

All you sofa experts, this is my sofa. It's a sofology, supremely comfortable and the leather is as good as new. I just hate the colour and don't think you could cover it.
Would this kind of thing sell second hand? I just want rid and I daren't buy another until I've got rid of this.

I’ve got a sofa.com bluebell and love it. I got one of the thicker herringbone fabrics in a granite colour though and it doesn’t look anything like the picture posted above. It’s 9 years old now and still looks like new (we use it every day). I think the velvet/cotton twill fabrics would not be as good quality. I have sat on loads of loaf sofas, never really found any that comfortable.
Can also vouch for tetrad sofas.

They're very squishy mostly. Except for the very upright style we got, which is hard as a board - just how I like it.
YABU, it's big investment and very particular to the buyer. Shops will hopefully open again soon. I'd wait

If I was to spend 3-4K I do not want to have to adapt it.

It totally changes the look, though. Like putting a sportscar on stilts.

If you do like the long, low-slung look then the Hendricks sofa from Habitat is really comfortable and very good value in comparison.

My daughters have both bought from Loaf and I would say the build quality is disappointing. The photography is great but lovely colourful velvets and linens, and plumped up cushions that will NOT look like that when sat on, don't count for much when the wood and joinery is pretty shoddy considering the extortionate price tags.

Haffiana · 18/02/2021 13:21

One thing I have learned about sofas is to avoid cushion backs because they forever need plumping and adjusting. They will eventually sag as well.

I much prefer a proper, supportive upholstered back, and then have a couple of large, loose scatter cushions if anyone wants or needs one. No-one ever does because the sofa back is so supportive, but they look good!

@Veuvestar

Problembottom- but that would be very uncomfortable for some people! Looks fab though It’s very subjective
You're absolutely right, they clearly aren't built for everyone. But I do adore my sofa.
