Were Christmas Eve boxes not enough?!

I’ve just seen these advertised on Facebook. Is this a thing now? Must we have a cutesy box for every single calendar event? Where are people keeping these crates as they endlessly accumulate?

I know I'm in a minority on here but I love shit like this. I even did my 5yo DS a little valentine's box yesterday. My mum used to do them for us when we were kids.

Blueemeraldagain · 15/02/2021 17:33

Easter baskets have been a thing since I was a kid (I’m 35). These are just a slightly sturdier and hopefully reusable version of that.

I do think Xmas Eve boxes are/can be excessive though.

Thorilicious · 15/02/2021 17:33

I don't do them for my dcs, but fair enough if people do.
What I can't stand is when people post it all over social media, especially when accompanied by a status similar to 'hope I've got my kids enough this year... Blah blah blah....'

Ingleduh · 15/02/2021 17:34

I don't do Christmas eve boxes/elf or anything like that but to be honest, this year's been shit for kids so I think parents are going all out to celebrate more when they otherwise wouldn't... something to do/look forward to.

AnnLouiseB · 15/02/2021 17:35

Yeah, maybe it’s a reaction against coronavirus shittiness!

We don’t do a Christmas Eve box but we do one of these small crates from the Easter Bunny.

Chocolate egg, book and some crafts.

It’s personal choice and something I enjoy doing for my child.
It doesn’t take up any space really and is just tucked away on top of a shelf. 🤷🏼‍♀️

lunar1 · 15/02/2021 17:35

I bought these last year, I'm all for finding ways to make my children smile through all this. Looking forward to reusing them this year!

ghostyslovesheets · 15/02/2021 17:36

well unless it's compulsory to buy them then NO it's not a thing and you can ignore it - or sneer about it - it's a free country

Lovely1a2b3c · 15/02/2021 17:36

Those look lovely... ?
May have missed the point!
I am in my 30s though and remember several of my friends got hundreds of Easter eggs from relatives so surely these boxes are no worse than that?

DrPhilYourGuts · 15/02/2021 17:36

Slightly different, Christmas Eve boxes are for before the main event. In addition toChristmas presents and are usually seen as excessive in that regard.

These are for Easter, so on the main event. These are to Christmas what a Santa Sack/Stocking is.

ItsTheDramaMickILoveIt · 15/02/2021 17:37

I think those are actually quite nice, some of the ‘handmade’ stuff you see is really dreadful - wonky fonts, bad spelling etc. I can’t bear all the cellophane wrapped stuff - so much plastic waste

Holothane · 15/02/2021 17:38

These are lovely.

I guess this is what I find odd - I don’t recall Easter ever being an occasion for gifts etc. We would always have a big family lunch and Easter eggs with an Easter egg hunt at home, but the idea of a box of gifts is totally alien to me. Prepared to be told that I’m in the minority with that though!

I do Xmas eve box but not Easter box. Not really a fan of Easter so it's a little egg hunt for dc an that's about it.

Starburst8 · 15/02/2021 17:46

I'm more shocked that these boxes cost between £25-£30 and they don't include anything shown in the picture... Just the box 🤔

I don't see the issue of the boxes though, I guess if you're buying eggs and treats anyway then it's a nice way to present them 😊

Nonamesavail · 15/02/2021 17:46

My only problem is people sell them for about 25 quid and it's cost about 8quid to make

LaurieFairyCake · 15/02/2021 17:47

Also agree they're lovely

MyDiamondShoesAreTooTight · 15/02/2021 17:48

I ordered these this week. They have had an awful lot of criticism on fb as people assumed they came filled but the cost is for the personalised crate only, not the contents.

Its the first time ive ever done an Easter basket and i ve gone over board this year (i ve even thrown in a Charlie Bear each) as the children have done sod all this year.

CaptainMerica · 15/02/2021 17:48

I never used to do Easter - I'm not religious, and didn't really acknowledge it. Last year, due to lockdown shitness, we went all out with Easter egg hunt, craft bag and Easter tree (a thing, apparently), and it was actually really fun. So why not?

ChristmasArmadillo · 15/02/2021 17:49

I always got these as a child! I do “boxes” for most holidays for my DC as I’d rather they don’t have the amount of candy that usually shows up otherwise - I put things they actually need into fun packaging and they think it’s grand.

JustLyra · 15/02/2021 17:52

Easter baskets have been a thing for years. My Nana made me one when I was a kid.

Kids have had it rough this last year so can't blame people for doing something a bit nice for them. I've not issued my annual "Please don't buy my kids millions of eggs!" plea to DH's family this year because I think the kids need a bit of niceness.

Mammyloveswine · 15/02/2021 17:55

Oh I love these!

rainbowunicorn · 15/02/2021 18:06

What does it matter? If you like them and want to do them for your family then you do, if not you don't, just like lots of other things. People like different things and have different family traditions.

We always had an easter basket when we were children and I did that for my own.

There were and are many things that my family did not do but others did, why do people need to comment on others choices if they do not impact on anyone else?

Angel2702 · 15/02/2021 18:12

We’ve had Easter baskets since before Christmas Eve boxes came about. What’s the issue in nicely presenting gifts in a way that can be reused every year? Better than a gift bag that ends up in a bin.

BeautifulStar · 15/02/2021 18:14

I think they’re quite sweet - I may do my own version of them for the dc’s.
