To get a nosejob

Nosejobent · 14/02/2021 19:25

I’m 40, married with children and happy but can’t seem to shake off being conscious of the size of my nose. I think zoom has made it worse!
Where does one begin the process to decide whether this is a suitable thing to consider in your 40s during a pandemic?
Ent surgeon recommendations in north west welcome!

Were you happy with it before?

I think zoom is generally unflattering

2020iscancelled · 14/02/2021 20:21

Zoom is giving me issues, I totally understand.

Is it the size which bothers you or is it more of a bump, a downturn, a misalignment? I ask this because you can have liquid rhinoplasty, it’s basically a type of filler which is injected to the nose in the problem areas.

It is incredible, takes 10 mins, there is no downtime, hardly any risk, lasts about 18 months. I have seen the most amazing transformations honestly.

I would check out the consultants clinic online / on insta - they have a clinic in Liverpool

Nosejobent · 14/02/2021 21:57

No I’ve never been totally happy with it and less so with age as it’s now bigger than when I was in my 20s.
Sadly I don’t think I am a candidate for the non surgical rhinoplasty, I believe I have what is termed a “bulbous” nose.
Yes zoom is unflattering unless you have the distance from the screen sorted, a ring light (?) and an interesting background to take the focus of your largest feature Grin

YANBU and I’d have a nose job in a second if I had the money!

zeddybrek · 14/02/2021 22:18

Hi OP

I am booked in for rhinoplasty on Friday just a few days time! I am 40 this year and like you got to a point where my nose looks just bigger and it actually is when I compare like for like pics from my 20's.

No one ever tell you this but your nose grows during adulthood!

But mine definitely got bigger after 2 pregnancies. The consultant doing mine said he hears this a lot from women and it's because there are lots of small ligaments in the nose which can become lose. A bit like how lots of women say their feet get bigger permanently after having children.

I have never had an issue with my nose before. I barely pluck my eyebrows and am quite low maintenance but this has been bothering me so much so I am taking the plunge. So I totally understand where you're coming from.

When I realised your nose can keep growing I thought I'd rather do this now than eventually cave in when I'm 50 or older.

I'm in London and am going with Duncan Atherton who has made me feel comfortable and I feel gets what I want i.e. my old nose back!

I think consultations are now over Zoom but definitely wait to see someone in person, hopefully we will be on a plan to lift lockdown slowly soon, plus you can research in that time.

I will be happy to report how it goes in a week's time if you want and answer any questions you may have then.

I am most nervous about the general anaesthetic. I have never had it before and am so scared. But not enough to put me off. I trust the team and the care they provide.

Oh and I am having mine for a hanging collumella and my nose is slightly lop sided too but it's most the bulbous hanging tip that's bothering me.

MynameisJune · 14/02/2021 22:19

I had one at 18, I’d do it all again in an instant.

Oversize · 14/02/2021 22:26

Placemarking for when I pluck up the courage.

brownet · 15/02/2021 01:08

Personally I think if you "need" one it's can be better to do it in later life. Yes they do grow & change with age but your face does too & you often see people who had a nose job young end up with a tight too small nose for their face if that makes sense.

Wendyhause · 15/02/2021 01:26

If you can afford it and think you will be happier with a neater nose then yes go for it. One life and all that!
It isn't only noses that can grown as we age. I know several old men, relatives and neighbours, with massive ears! They grow too but more so in men I think, who can not really hide them the way women can with hairstyles.
I was not aware that cosmetic procedures were being done during the pandemic.

brownet · 15/02/2021 01:28

yes ears grow on both sexes as they are cartilage like noses

IdblowJonSnow · 15/02/2021 01:30

My previously petite nose has got much bigger in the last few years. Even my DH can't deny it and he tried!
If you can afford it, why not!

Emeraldshamrock · 15/02/2021 02:28

If you can afford it why not. There can be problems with recovery my friend had it done it makes a big difference to her confidence.

FingersXssd83 · 15/02/2021 02:35

I'm considering this. I've had trauma to mine which has made it asymmetric. I'm nearly 40, married and a mum. Not vain or overly bothered about my appearance but would like it sorting really as I do feel a bit self conscious and can afford it. My friend d had hers done when she was 20 and looked great. Think I'm more bothered what friends and family will think of me...

Emeraldshamrock · 15/02/2021 02:40

I wouldn't worry about friends or family, we only get one life, you'd be recovered in 2 weeks and although it makes a big difference it is hard to pinpoint what has changed on a person's face.

readingismycardio · 15/02/2021 06:20

Absolutely do it! I didn't have a nose job, but an otoplasty (ears) about 8 years ago and it changed my life drastically. I love it!

My friend recently got a nose job, it looks BEAUTIFUL and it improved her features so much.

Nosejobent · 15/02/2021 06:57

Shocksee @zeddybrek THIS is the stuff more pregnant women should know. I had heard about the feet (after my feet were too half a size too large to fit into my nice shoes post pregnancy) but had no idea about noses! not that I could do much about it (unless I tried to do an Amy with an artists nose clip?? through my pregnancies) but it would still have been nice to know....

OP posts:
Nosejobent · 15/02/2021 07:05

@FingersXssd83 and @Emeraldshamrock
yes am conscious of family and friends finding out via my children who will blurt out that i was purple and blue on my nose or something similar...Grin
The not being able to pin point what has changed is exactly the result I want. I’m not expecting or wanting a drastic change, just want the end of my nose not to look like it’s been stung by bees!
I hope recovery is 2 weeks, that would be ideal.
am going to starting doing some proper research so please keep any recommendations coming.
threads on mumsnet have stated that an ent surgeon is best...

Nosejobent · 15/02/2021 07:12

@zeddybrek just wanted to say i’m also not bothered about plucking eyebrows but yes this bothers me far more!
I ve had general anesthetic and it’s scary to think of but honestly it will be fine, i’ll be thinking of you on your big (no pun intended) day. well done for getting it all organized and how great is it that you get to recover and take it easy during a time when everyone is indoors anyways.
whenever you are up for it, hearing about your experience will be so helpful.

I just had septo rhinoplasty two weeks ago. My nose was very badly deviated to the point I could no longer breathe out of my right side. The structural shift was making the tip droop, and my nose no longer looked like my nose.

So, mine was a fairly complex open rhinoplasty. The pain afterwards was minimal. I took extra strength paracetamol. The mouth breathing makes you feel panicky, which is one thing to know about, and another is that while at two weeks you look good, swelling lasts for months. Yesterday I foolishly went for a walk in the freezing cold, then took a hot bath, and my nose swelled so much that I had to tape it. So, when they say gentle movement only for a month, they really mean that.

I am thrilled to bits with the result. I did pay extra for my surgeon, who’s one of the best in the US, but it was absolutely worth it for the subtle but beautiful result.

Nosejobent · 15/02/2021 13:00

@stopgap
Thanks for sharing!
What do you mean by ‘taped your nose’
Also can I ask how you went about looking for a surgeon? I’m hoping to do my research for the uk and as it’s not really something you would ask your family in general I’m wondering how to go about this.

OP posts:
MonroeNotManson · 15/02/2021 13:34

Following! Also considering one, but no idea how to go about picking a good surgeon (am in the UK). Would consider going abroad but same problem, how do you find someone who will do a great job?

GhostCurry · 15/02/2021 13:39

Look on RealSelf. You can look at before and after photos, read reviews and find a practitioner.

OloBo · 15/02/2021 13:49

I’m really anti cosmetic surgery. I dislike the idea of everyone homogenising into some perceived idea. Mostly though, I think if you’re not happy with yourself and trying to “fix” a part of yourself, you’re fighting a losing battle and it’s better to invest in accepting and loving yourself as you are.

But maybe I’m some sort of old hippy 😂

stopgap · 15/02/2021 14:20

@Nosejobent, you will wear a fixed splint on the outside of your nose for a week, then tape for a few days, and then you tape it yourself at night for a few weeks to minimize swelling and essentially mold skin to the bone.

RealSelf is a good resource for sure. The surgeon I chose is famous, but avoids publicity and social media. Through one thing or another, I just knew about the top five facial plastic surgeons in the US, and went with the one most proximate. My surgeon only does deep plane facelifts, eyelids and rhinoplasty. If you can, go with a surgeon who only does the face as rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult procedures to get right.

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 15/02/2021 14:34

Placemarking because my (always large) nose is clearly getting bigger and more crooked.

Does anyone have a rough idea of the price? It seems to vary wildly.
