To get a nosejob

Nosejobent · 14/02/2021 19:25

I’m 40, married with children and happy but can’t seem to shake off being conscious of the size of my nose. I think zoom has made it worse!
Where does one begin the process to decide whether this is a suitable thing to consider in your 40s during a pandemic?
Ent surgeon recommendations in north west welcome!

I felt exactly like this towards the end of last year and I’m waiting on a consultation now. I’ve never been happy with my nose and now mid thirties I’ve decided enough is enough. Worried about general anaesthetic but just want or done ASAP.

Ilovelove · 15/02/2021 15:18

I had a surgery that was for my legs but the result was a cosmetic thing I have been bothered by my whole life has been solved.

How much it has improved my confidence means I wish I could go back to my younger self and tell her to just get the cosmetic thing done even for cosmetic sake. That in itself is enough of a reason because it’s linked to so much more.

Go for it!

Anothermother3 · 15/02/2021 18:27

Okay I’m totally anti non necessary surgery just for what it promotes more generally about perfection and body ideals (but if someone offers me a abdominoplasty I’d be tempted so I totally get it on a human level and don’t judge individual choice just the whole ‘market’ for it). I just want to say THANK YOU. I felt like I was losing my mind but my nose has bloody changed and I honestly thought I was going a bit mad. It’s since the pregnancies especially the third one. I feel less insane but I’ll just take it as the price to pay for my third as she’s lovely (and I’m getting older than I was for the first 2 so my body was probably protesting at the pregnancy).

bimbimbap · 15/02/2021 19:45

i have a (zoom) consultation with dr nizar hamadeh later this week and currently scribbling a list of Qs to ask. the cost i have been quoted is just under £6k. i’ve had non-surgical rhinoplasty / fillers a few times in the past, mostly to see if i cared enough about my nose looking straighter to go for the full operation (the answer was yes!)

Nosejobent · 16/02/2021 09:41

@bimbimbap his reviews are amazing. it’s especially impressive that everyone raves how he manages expectations and doesn’t promise miracles and then under deliver.
Hope your consultation goes well. Please can you update us if you have time?

@Anothermother3
Haha yes think number 3 pushed it over the edge for me too.
The irony is that my third child has a big nose, bless him, but left me with a bigger one myself!!

@namechange202086 can you share if you awaiting a consultation privately or with the nhs? Looking for recommendations so any info would be appreciated.

It is a private consultation(La Belle Forme)but I’m not in England. I was hoping surgery could go ahead sometime this year, but not sure of the likelihood of that with current restrictions.

Nosejobent · 19/02/2021 21:08

@zeddybrek hope your op went well today!!
Have a speedy recovery.

Have had a look at the real self app which was recommended. Loads on there, will go through and update this thread!

OP posts:
zeddybrek · 19/02/2021 23:03

@Nosejobent thank you! Hope you don't mind me adding a bit more to your thread if that's ok with you.

So far it has gone so well. I am feeling great but that's just the drugs talking so will definitely update over the next few days for you and anyone else considering rhinoplasty but from a logistical point of of view should you have one too.

But in the first 24 hours can happily say, the general anaesthetic was a dream. I was most worried about that. Totally pain free throughout. Woke up feeling very hungry and chatty! It was like a long deep sleep.

Worth noting, your lips get so dry so take a good lip balm.

You only breathe through your mouth so this saliva replacement gel has been a life saver. It's called Biotene.

Eating is hard so only liquids today. I thought soft foods would be fine but that's too difficult today.

Laughing is harder and that is the only thing which caused a bit of pain. No comedies on Netflix!

Nosejobent · 20/02/2021 08:09

@zeddybrek
How fantastic! So pleased to hear you are awake and typing and watching tv!
Can’t wait for the updates whenever you are up for it, will be so helpful to everyone on here! Smile
Wishing you a restful recovery Flowers

I had rhinoplasty when I was 21. I had a huge bump on my nose so different to yours. I had a lot of people comment on it when I was a teenager and it really affected my confidence. I always wore my hair long, wouldn't let people photograph me from the side. I would cover it alot with my hand.

I went with the Harley Medical Group and had my op in Manchester. I won't lie, it was painful at first and I had ALOT of facial bruising.
I had to wear a nose splint and tape for about 10 days and then go back to Manchester City centre to have it taken off. That was very embarrassing as I had to walk through the city centre with my splint on! I wore a cap and kept my head down!
I was delighted with the results but it was a long recovery. The skin remained shiny for months. My boyfriend said it looked like my nose was made of plastic! I had to be extremely careful I did knock it. You have to be vary careful with sun exposure.
It's now 15 years later and I'm still pleased with it. I've since had 2 kids and my nose has definitely grown, but the bump never returned

Nosejobent · 21/02/2021 14:20

@JKW36 thanks very much for sharing your experience.
I think bumps are bone and the bulbousness is cartilage? So yours I’m guessing would have been the more painful type of op.
am assuming if it was 15 years ago, your surgeon may not be there anymore!
Personally I think I’d rather wear the nose splint in public than be bruised Grin
Sounds like it was very much worth it, hoping for the same when I finally go for it!

Just thought I would check in and see how everyone was doing and also continue the discussion...so on real self there is a LOT of choice of drs.. the one I have seen that has good reviews and is in my area of north west has these Qualifications:
MBChB, FRCS(OMFS), MFDS
Specialist Registered Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

does this qualification sound ideal for a nose job?

CharlotteRose90 · 28/02/2021 23:28

How did I not know that the nose grows when your older 😩😩. I’ve hated mine since I was a kid. It’s bulbous and slightly crooked. Plucking up the courage to get it done myself and I’m in the north west also. I can cope with bigger feet but not a bigger nose

namechange202086 · 03/03/2021 18:30

I have a few weeks to go before my consultation which is now through Zoom. Really hoping I’ll be able to get it done this year but have a feeling it’ll be next year.

Nosejobent · 04/03/2021 16:06

Thanks for updates, keep them coming,,
I have a free zoom consultation on Saturday.
Will post my update thereafter.
I have sent ahead varying pictures of my nose which has felt odd to do.. I’m normally trying to NOT have my nose as the central subject of a photo!!!

OP posts:
ColaandBru · 04/03/2021 16:18

Not nose but I had big teeth that stuck out. I had them straightened (again! I had a rubbish orthodontist as a child...) a few years ago. Really wish I had done it sooner.

zeddybrek · 07/03/2021 00:08

Hi @Nosejobent

How was your consultation?

If you do go ahead I have a few tips which may help with the recovery. I am out and about now, was in the park on my bike today. I think 10 days after surgery I was able to wear a bit of make up and I looked ok, no bruising and very little swelling. Can't recommend it enough if that's what you still want!

Nosejobent · 07/03/2021 18:12

so pleased to hear you are well!
my appointment yesterday was ok, it was actually the first time I have spoken to anyone in real life about getting this done so that was almost cathartic!
in short, i would like to have a second opinion.
the consultant was good but went off on a tangent. or maybe i was so focused on my bulbous nose i hadn’t realized that other parts of my nose would need to be operated to make it all “go” together and work iyswim.
i didn’t come away feeling super confident about getting it done, but that’s maybe the reality of the situation: i may not like the results.
i’m
not unhappy with everything nose related so i was hoping to get the partbthat nother me fixed.ok i’m just rambling now..
i definitely need another opinion.
i don’t think it helped when he saw my side profile and suggested i may want tonhave a facelift as well. Blush

ittakes2 · 07/03/2021 18:30

I would steer clear of any surgeon who looks to be selling add ons during the procedure! But definately don't do anything with any surgeon unless you are 120 percent confident in them and what you both have agreed will be done.

LittlestBoho · 07/03/2021 18:41

I have also heard that some surgeons have a particular 'look', so they make every nose they operate on look the same, regardless of if it suits the patient's face or not. I would not suit a button nose, I would still want a 'strong' nose, just smaller and straighter. I'm hoping to get mine done next year.

Nosejobent · 08/03/2021 04:42

Yes this was it, whilst I appreciate the extra info, I really didn’t give the impression that I was after getting more done. In fact I went out of my way to say I was happy to get less done even if that meant less of a favorable change.
That may have been naive of me to say but in any case I think would ve have made the point thAt I’m not in the market for extras. I had also mentioned this was the first time I was talkjng to a professional about this so I did think it was abit ott to suggest the facelift.
On the other hand perhaps he was pointing out the bleeding obvious! And also zoom calls don’t really give you the satisfaction of a proper consultation so maybe that’s where my discontentment stems from.
@LittlestBoho good point. I did say to him at the start about not doing a standard signature nose and he readily agreed.

I think I need to speak to someone else in the north west, any recommendations?
