To think you can catch Covid this way so why risk it?

I read a study recently about how you can catch Covid through unprotected sex, which makes sense as it's in the blood and bodily fluids.

Whilst fertility clinics are running reduced services (sounds like a train announcement!) during the pandemic some men have gone rogue and whilst I'm sure some of them (probably not the ones wanting to 'naturally inseminate') do want to help isn't this pretty dangerous, not just because of a bit because of the lack of STI/STD testing and general health screening you get from registered sperm donors?

As they don't even use their real name any child resulting from this method of conception isn't going to be able to find their biological father on a register...

I think the real issue here is horrible men exploiting desperate women

'natural' insemination ffs

I agree Gerbil and I can understand the desperation to have a child but this seems so risky, even if the likelihood of catching Covid was low due to distancing obviously the sperm hasn't been tested for motility, hereditary disease or conditions and it can carry all kinds with it.

Has it really come to this that men can effectively use Facebook sperm donor groups as dating sites? It's not even that it's just for sex and 'spreading their seed'.

The article says that some only use natural insemination and depending on who else they have sex with or 'donate' to, the risks could be quite high.

The risks are massive

He could be a violent loon
STDs
Is he even fertile!
I mean covid is probably down the list tbh

I can't imagine many women are actually going for this tbh.

Same as the thing on here once where someone shared a site for male escorts for women... Yikes. Loads of totally unappealing men offering their bodies. It was a funny thread!

Even if it's transmitted thru sex (no idea on this btw, although unless people mask 😷 up and don't kiss there's a risk!!)

I cannot see why anyone in their right mind in the current climate would think it's a good idea to hook up with people for sex they don't really know and aren't in a relationship or bubble with.

The risks are endless with covid and chances are if someone people have met say for example online want to meet up you won't be the first person they've met up with either.

There's 2 single girls I work with who are desperate to meet people and are very very lonely with the lockdown and it's a very difficult time for people in that position so sending virtual hugs 🤗 out to everyone who is in this position.

I think it might be more than you or I might imagine, it's openly discussed on social media and I've seen (including MN) and it's a big enough deal for a story in the Sunday Times when it's not a slow news day.

That's true, if you're desperate and taking the man at his word about STDs and other parts of his family and sexual history then risking another killer virus is probably not that big a deal.
