My son has started doing digital art - basically he is taking photos of local landmarks and putting his own spin on them adding different filters. This is only one of the versions he has created. If this was a landmark local to you would you buy a print?

No, I think it's awful.

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 14/02/2021 06:19

Definitely, I LOVE this style

RedHelenB · 14/02/2021 06:25

Depends on the price as well.

custardbear · 14/02/2021 06:26

I like digital art - however it needs to be something that doesn't look like a unicorn is about to appear and be all fantasy looking for me

I bought some prints the other day, they hadn't been adjusted from the original except enhanced colours and they had a metallic finish, they were nice

Pluas · 14/02/2021 06:53

No, and I buy, or have done, a fair amount of art, including photography. To me that looks like the cover image of a self-published sci-fi or fantasy novel. Which might be away of him making some money from his work? There are websites from which authors can choose or commission cover images.

Otherwise, if he wants to go down the local landmarks route, is he likely to be minimising his appeal if he removes or alters the actual surroundings? Aren’t people looking for a souvenir likely to want the Largs Tower’s actual setting?

SycamoreGap · 14/02/2021 07:29

No sorry - it looks dated, but not retro dated which could be quite fashionable. The first thing I thought of was an advert for bread, but I have no idea why.

But then I like black and white photography so it’s not my style. I have something similar to this on my wall: www.picturesforwalls.com/photo/manchester/curvedpassage.htm

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/02/2021 07:39

I think you need to say what the price would be.

If someone showed me a bunch of bananas and asked
"Would you be interested in buying this ?"
I would for a £1 but not for £100.

To me price is a very important factor in the decision.

JulietMadeChutney · 14/02/2021 07:45
@JulietMadeChutney can you link to your Etsy please? A charcoal original on a similar style to the hare I would definitely buy!
Thank you Dinosaur. This should work: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/JoMcCallionArt

Maireas · 14/02/2021 07:46

I really like it!
I love that style. How much would that cost?

ivykaty44 · 14/02/2021 07:46

No

Bl3ss3dm0m · 14/02/2021 08:06

I would buy the first one you showed OP, but only if the price was right, and it was still recognisably true to life. I like the effect, but not if it didn't still properly represent a place I liked. I have no idea what the "right" price would actually be, but I have family members who would know how much time and effort would have approximately gone into it, so could cost it for me in that way, then I would add a purely profit amount on top of that, because businesses however small, quite rightly want, and need, to make a reasonable profit.
OP you sound like a lovely and proud Mum, your son is lucky to have such a supportive Mum, and I am sure that if he had a project that he didn't have an obvious talent in, you would gently (although we can see here from some very differing answers that someone's talent/aptitude is very much in the eye of the beholder) try to steer him towards trying something else - I am presuming here that your son is probably of secondary school age.

fancyginglass · 14/02/2021 08:17

Maireas absolutely no idea - wouldn't be too expensive I don't think.

JulietMadeChutney, I love Harry the Hare, so much so, that I have just ordered him - please don't out me!

CatalinaCasesolver · 14/02/2021 08:25

Not my cup of tea

Playnoh · 14/02/2021 08:36

No I wouldn’t buy it.

Maireas · 14/02/2021 08:38

@fancyginglass - you could DM me a link to his details? I really like the style and colours.

TwoleftUggs · 14/02/2021 08:43

I like it, I like the concept and the colours and would definitely buy it if it was a landmark or location either local or meaningful to me.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 14/02/2021 08:45

I’m sure your son is talented but these examples look like the work of someone who thinks they’re good at art but are actually adept at using a computer / manipulation software. Bit too ‘painting by numbers’ for me.

fancyginglass · 14/02/2021 08:49

I just want to clarify, I commissioned this - I asked for this style. This is not the limit of his capabilities - some people on here a so rude. For the others thank you very much for the lovely comments.

You should have probably mention this earlier...
Kitewoman · 14/02/2021 09:00

I really wouldn't. Just not my cup of tea at all. But I am sure there are people out there who would. Good luck to your son!

Oysterbabe · 14/02/2021 09:02

I like it 🤷‍♀️

Aprilx · 14/02/2021 09:04

I think it is quite nice, the first one, I don’t like the subsequent variations. But I feel like the style is something I have seen a thousand times before and I doubt I would buy it.

YABU you asked for opinions. You're on the wrong board if you wanted compliments.
FriteFuaite · 14/02/2021 09:10

I like it!!

I think it's great and I would probably buy it Smile Well done to your son.
