My son has started doing digital art - basically he is taking photos of local landmarks and putting his own spin on them adding different filters. This is only one of the versions he has created. If this was a landmark local to you would you buy a print?

I really like the idea of it, but this one is not to my taste, sorry. I'm sure it would suit plenty of others' though Smile.

Gobbeldegook · 13/02/2021 23:35

Not my thing

angelaEhen · 13/02/2021 23:38

Looks good, but I prefer a more modern look though. He needs to play around with the colours more so it looks more modern and then I think it would have more of appeal

Crystalcrazy · 13/02/2021 23:41

I like it. There’s an artist called Tracy Savage, this reminds me a little bit of her work.

FlamedToACrisp · 13/02/2021 23:44

I think it's ok, but a bit like a 1970s record sleeve. I don't think I'd buy this kind of thing as an artwork, but maybe printed on a bag, or coaster.

LApprentiSorcier · 13/02/2021 23:44

If it was somewhere of significance to me, yes, I would be interested. Particularly if it was somewhere not commonly the subject of artwork. I often look on eBay for pictures of obscure places I like, to no avail.

bellie710 · 13/02/2021 23:48

No not something I wold ever buy, looks like a cheap copy not sure how much you could charge for that to make it worthwhile.

Idontbelieveit12 · 13/02/2021 23:48

I quite like it! So many rude people here

MarchSurprise · 13/02/2021 23:50

@HundredMilesAnHour

No sotty, I think it's dreadful.
Please don't ever become a teacher Grin
katy1213 · 13/02/2021 23:52

No, I'd far prefer a b/w photo.

justilou1 · 13/02/2021 23:54

I think he should pursue his passion, but it seems like he has a strong fantasy/sci-fi kind of genre. He could perhaps look into tarot cards, contact publishers of games cards (Magic, et. al.) sci-fi books for covers, t-shirts, etc. I would ensure he has a thorough working knowledge of copyright and digital and hard publishing laws, reprints, etc. before agreeing to anything.

bonfireheart · 13/02/2021 23:58

OP, would he consider people sending in their own pics and he digitises them?

fancyginglass · 14/02/2021 00:18

Chambored yes, spot on!!

I love it. I would definitely buy one if there was a connection to the subject for me.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 14/02/2021 00:30

I'm v local to the Pencil. It's not to my taste at all as it's very artificial looking. I'm not even a huge fan of black & white with a colour picked out so definitely not the target market.

EssexLioness · 14/02/2021 00:50

Not to my taste either but I am sure there is a market for it. I’m like @Elphame in preferring original artwork, mostly paintings. And again, we never pay much for ours. The most expensive are a couple of paintings by an artist we found online, £60 each for 2 large paintings

snowblower · 14/02/2021 00:57

Not something I would buy. I'm trying to put this nicely but you did ask for opinions. It's not very refined, it looks like something one of my kids would do playing with filters on my phone.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 14/02/2021 01:28

It looks very Lemony Snicket-esque, which is awesome.

TaraR2020 · 14/02/2021 01:52

I was going say YABU when I read your posts because generally i think digital art of photographed landmarks is lazy and they don't have anything unique about them .

However, then I opened the picture and really like it!

If your son is doing more than applying a filter or programmed transformation to it, then I think it really stands out and would encourage him to develop a skill by practising layering and image manipulation in photo editing suites.

For pictures where the seller has applied one or even multiple filters to it, then personally, no i wouldn't because anyone can do that. BUT that isn't to say there isn't a market for it!

I'd be more interested in seeing someone develop a skill and find their own unique style.

namechangetheworld · 14/02/2021 01:53

I would if it was of a local landmark, I think it looks great.

Krabapple · 14/02/2021 05:01

I really like it. There is a real market for local stuff like this where I live .

Bookwords · 14/02/2021 05:17

I like that, I'd buy that if it was a local landmark, or a landmark somewhere I liked visiting.

ZaraW · 14/02/2021 05:17

No I wouldn't.
