To be irritated that targeted ads think I speak German and am pregnant?

This week the targeted ads I see are mostly in German and often for baby items. I don’t speak German and it would be miracle if I was pregnant. On YouTube this has also happened to my recommendations.
Why?
I am amused as much as irritated.

You're not using a vpn which has decided you're in Germany are you? My work computer connects via a vpn in Paris so it gets French ads. They add a certain je ne sais quoi to my working environment I suppose, but if I'm not careful it returns search results in French which is a real pain.

Deleting browser history regularly helps I find.

Twitter ads decided I'm a bloke about 6 weeks ago. Ad presentation is interesting!

@lljkk Oh, that is interesting. What kind of ads are getting now? It sounds more fun that being a German speaking expectant mother - as far as ads are concerned.

I also get targeted with dog videos on Facebook which is odd, canines and I regard each other with distaste and we walk away from each other in a dignified manner.

Ah that's dogs for you. They have smelt the fear and are after you!!

I used to see some low carb ads -- always showed women slimming down. Still the exact same ad, but shows all male shapes!

Other ads for me on Twitter today are...
British gas x 2, expensive vodafone x 2, Betfair (I guess Cheltenham is running), Govt Business support, Tesco, Betfred, Sky sports, Aldi, giffgaff, Royal Mail customs declaration to send to EU, Futwatch, Jaguar UK, Belvita, SCR Tracker, Maintel)

I don't mind those ads, and the are a low % of the total feed. Facebook relentlessly tries to flog me lots of pretty over-priced don't-need-em cottage-industry things, to compare & contrast, marketed with emotional phrases. The Twitter ads are all factual and 'slightly exciting!' in tone.

All except R-Mail & the mobile phone networks highly irrelevant to me, btw.

The internet went through a period of thinking I was a horny japanese teenage boy for a while based on the ads I was sent. I was reading a lot of manga at the time which maybe why. Now it's slippers and dishwashers so I dunno...

I got a couple in what I think may have been Korean recently. No real idea what they were for but there was a picture of a panda. It was wasted on me..At least with a lot of European languages I'd be able to.decipher at least a bit if it I could even read the script!

Claire’s accessories, job ad in civil aviation, homepride cook-in sauces. The scam ads are always ‘Seniors living in ..town ’ ... no idea where this places is and think it may be fictional.

All totally irrelevant. I think Toast will get me in the end though, they ar3 relentless.

YouTube decided I was Greek. It was really hard to change it back and it still periodically reverts to Greek.

I don't speak or read Greek so it is quite complicated to work through the settings...

I'm not even japanese! I'm a middle-aged housewife in the uk with two kids! Apparently we dont read manga though 🤔

@badpuma That would be worse than German for sure. How on earth do algorithms decide that in a no travel world, we have moved country and speak another language.

I keep getting the same ad over and over for cotton buds complete with ear wax < not envy!
