Hello everyone

I know this is not the right place to post but I just need traffic.

The result of a major exam I wrote last month is going to be released at about 4pm tomorrow. I cannot overstate how terrified I am. I'm a Doctor and have been on nights for the past week, haven't been sleeping at all, been crying a lot (because I'm sure I will not pass the exam, I desperately want to). I have been popping paracetamol for the past week, had to have some G&T today to sleep for about 1 hour.

2020 was extremely rough for me-- anxiety rocketed, self confidence is shit. I just need this little win from life. Quite scared of how I'll cope if I fail; I don't know why I'm hinging so much on this exam.

I'm an immigrant and very socially isolated. Just need some support.

Sorry to bother everyone with my mundane problems but thanks for reading.

Most hospital Occupational Health depts have got lots of health and wellbeing offers at the moment. Please go and take a look at what they can do to support. Everyone in the NHS is having a hard time and you have such a lot to cope with. Even if its some stress management sessions or some relaxation techniques go and have a look.
Good luck with the results, and remember the worst that can happen is a re-sit, you will be fine.

HollowTalk · 11/02/2021 22:22

Best of luck!!!

SuperMutha · 11/02/2021 22:25

You are already doing amazingly well. You've qualified as a doctor and are working really hard by the sound of it

I hope you get the result you want but try not to base your entire worth on it

buckeejit · 11/02/2021 22:25

Thinking of you. Try to book an appointment with a counsellor to talk about things.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Hoping for the best but knowing you can get through the worst ❤️

Sittingonabench · 11/02/2021 22:41

Aw OP, my dsis is a doctor and through her I know lots of people who have experienced this pressure. It’s crap in normal times but with everything else going on right now it must be dreadful. Try to remember though that at the end of he day it’s just an exam and if it’s your first attempt you can usually redo. Doctors put so much pressure on themselves to be perfect and not fail but many of the people you admire will have failed an exam (obviously not suggesting you have but given the circumstances you can cut yourself some slack). Best wishes for tomorrow, I’m sure you will have done great!

Anusername · 11/02/2021 22:50

Just want to give you some support. It may seem like a huge thing now but you will be fine!

MadeForThis · 11/02/2021 22:59

Good luck

Notonthestairs · 11/02/2021 23:09

Wishing you the very best.

I failed an important professional exam. It was crap, embarrassing and played in to my innermost fears that I wasn't good enough.

But 30 years later I can tell you it just delayed stuff, whatever happens it won't be the thing that defines you.

Occupational health is a good call - let them help you if you need it.

Hang on in there. Be kind to yourself- tell yourself the things you'd tell a friend in the same position and believe them.
We are rooting for you.

cheninblanc · 11/02/2021 23:10

I'm waiting on exam results tmrw too. We can wait together. Good luck!

chinateapot · 11/02/2021 23:21

Medical exams are horrible! And this has been an absolutely grim year. You sound exhausted. Please take care of yourself - I hope the results are good but if not remember how many excellent doctors have struggled with these exams.
Meanwhile have a look at www.practitionerhealth.nhs.uk/ - they are amazing at providing mental health support to doctors.

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 11/02/2021 23:23

Good luck for tomorrow OP! I'm a medical student and I've seen how hard doctors are working right now, thank you for everything! Even if you don't pass the exam, you will have another opportunity-you are a doctor, you have the ability to pass exams.

I've been on Sertraline for the past 2 years. It's made me a better student; I'm more resilient, I have better focus, and I just feel like I'm in a better place mentally. It took me a long time to accept help, but I'm glad I did. From your post it does sound like you could do with some extra psychological help right now, I personally found my GP more supportive than my Trust's OH.

ssd · 11/02/2021 23:23

Good luck @seriouslywhatajoke

namechange7567785544 · 11/02/2021 23:32

Good luck! You might just surprise yourself and If you don't pass just remember how far you've come already what an incredible achievement to be a doctor!

babbaloushka · 11/02/2021 23:50

You've achieved so much already, good luck!

m0therofdragons · 11/02/2021 23:54

Are you working in a hospital? Please ask for support - many doctors do and many more should. It really odd a strength to ask. This year I’ve witness our most senior consultants crumble. Fingers crossed you will pass but if not, different things will happen to what you planned but different isn’t bad so go with it and see what happens.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 11/02/2021 23:57

Good luck 🤞
