Texas. It must be pretty grim.

A more humane and intelligent version of Marjorie Taylor Green.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 17/02/2021 09:48

think Trump is priming one of of his DCs for 2024... most likely Ivanka
I think that was the original plan but Lindsey Graham is already talking about Lara Trump.

From Kinzingers family ketter
You should be very proud that you have lost the respect of Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Greg Kelly etc. and most importantly in our book, Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh

I would be embarrassed to have the respect of any of the above!

BruceAndNosh · 17/02/2021 10:04

That (now retracted) rant of Boyds is batshit.
So electricity companies are Socialist and everyone should take responsibility for providing their own water and power?
I'm sure most rural farms in Texas have their own emergency generator and bore hole but if you live in an urban 2 bed walk up apartment, just WHERE do you install these?

I'm sure Trump would prefer Ivanka but she has the personality of porridge and I can't see her firing up a crowd. Lara Trump has already shown herself to be adept at talking over news anchors who she disagrees with

I agree Bruce. And whilst it might not be permanent, there was real backlash against Ivanka and Jared in high society In recent times. But don’t ever put anything past them!

Can't help but appreciate the symbolism here.

'The former Trump Plaza casino is to be imploded Wednesday after falling into such disrepair that chunks of the building began peeling off and crashing to the ground.'

That made me laugh. I was going to say 'the personality of a wet flannel' Either will do!

Is that poll true though Everyone? The DTelegraph are notorious for massaging the truth...

Rousette frustratingly I can’t get to the article as it’s behind a paywall. However other publications seem to be saying the same thing:

@EveryoneRevealsThemselves

Soooooo depressing.
It's totally perplexing and I can't get my head around it at all.

The Republican party will have to deal with this for the foreseeable future and I have no sympathy for them at all. They made this happen and I hope they live to regret it every day of their miserable lives. This is why integrity and morality is important

Roussette · 17/02/2021 12:58

Everyone that is sooooo depressing. All we can hope for is him splitting the party

Too bad he's not inside.

Back in my home state today to bear witness as Atlantic City demolishes the Trump Plaza casino. People are lined up on the beach in 27 degree weather to watch it fall.

Going back to RTB's post of Hannah Arendt's words at 14-Feb-21 23:37:05.

I think we've reached the stage where this is not just a description but is being used as a manual for the authoritarians, who are using Trump as their idiot savant to break democracy.

I've also realised, looking at the guff coming out of Trumpists who know better, that it's no longer the just the case that accusations are subconscious admissions, but that this has been adopted as a strategy.

When something bad is going on in the country, one strategy is not to deny that it is happening, but seize on it and on the negative emotions it generates (fear, anger), and shout loudly "I see your fear AND IT'S THE OTHER GUY MAKING IT HAPPEN."

Because you've given people someone to blame for their emotions, some will believe you even though the factual part of their brain knows it isn't true. You've soothed them by giving them a focus for their emotions – especially if the focus fits their pre-existing beliefs and likes.

I do feel for people in Texas, having lived briefly through something similar here in Florida many years ago. Very very cold and the electricity went out. We were newly married in our first house, which had a wood burning fireplace because I had wanted it for the ambience. We pulled mattresses into the family room to sleep because it was too cold in the rest of the house. Neighbors who didn't have fireplaces joined us. Luckily, it only lasted for a couple of days, but it was quite challenging while it lasted.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 17/02/2021 14:04

81% of republicans... And how has the number of republicans changed lately?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/02/2021 14:06

Given the words he got wrong and the nonsense that a lot of it was, I'd say Tim Boyd was high on something when he wrote that extraordinary screed. Marijuana? Campaign contributions? Cocaine? Or just whiskey?

BruceAndNosh · 17/02/2021 14:17

Tucker fucking Carlson blaming the Green Deal because "Texas is totally reliant on windmills" for their electricity.

Uh, no they are not.
But Texas IS totally reliant on TEXAS for its energy because it's not connected to National Grid for political reasons

I think there are a few connections to the national grid on the edges of Texas, aren't there? And about 7.8% windpower in the rest of the state, with a shedload of natural gas they can't pump when it gets too cold but which isn't exactly renewable.
