Anyone with a super king size bed? Or a "TV / media bed"?

Hi all, just about to change our existing double bed for a super king size TV bed. Couple of questions.
Anyone have trouble getting sheets /duvet covers for the super king size? Just had a quick look and it looks like you can't get as much choice for this size of bed - any tips for shops?
Secondly, anyone have a TV bed (tv and speakers etc built into the footboard which raises with a remote control and assorted media options). Any problems with them and did you find that you actually used it or was it a gimmick that you regret?

Thanks all.

Yes to super king. My top tip is to fold the duvet cover super tight (two person job) in order to iron it. It works a treat.

No problem getting sheets or duvet covers. I always buy from John Lewis, usually in the sales.

Pretty sure the bed was from John Lewis too. Mattress is an Emma one.

The only downside is that you can never sleep happily in a standard double in future - holidays, other people’s houses etc.

There was a thread about these TV beds the other day.
The general consensus was no I think for the following reasons..
Wanting to hang feet out the end of the bed
Wanting to sit on the end of the bed
The TV sits too low so when you lay in bed your legs block the view
What happens if the TV breaks?
The TV is too close, you wouldn't sit that close to a TV in your living room

@Janegrey333

To use a word that is probably passé, the whole idea is naff.
They are very chavvy, but there are a lot of chavvy people out there. They’re also expensive, so on the plus side think of the money going to support a business and he amount of tax being paid.

I bet my antique wooden furniture and Laura Ashley bedding isn’t everyone’s taste either.

Twiggywinkle13 · 09/02/2021 13:22

I have the kingsize version and it’s honestly one of the best items I’ve ever purchased!

Nameitychangity · 09/02/2021 13:22

@Mylittlesandwich

We have a king and when the time comes I will replace with a super king. I've slept in a bed with a built in tv and I found it to be a little too close for my liking. Also can you replace the tv if it stops working?
The TV is fully seperate, you can either buy one with the bed or get your own, so if it ever stops working it can be removed from the bed and replaced. It is housed in the foot board and raises up on a lifting mechanism then disappears back inside when finished. Thanks again for the tips everyone!

We have a non Tv superking. Actually we have two as we bought one for our other house too. I second the poster who said TK max. You can get 1000 ct sheets for about £25.00. And I also agree with the poster that it is really hard to sleep in a smaller bed after being spoiled in a superking.

You sound delightful. Just what's in it for you to make such judgemental and nasty comments? Why bother? You don't know anything about me. Bore off .

We have a super king and haven't had issues getting bedding. No idea about the TV part though.

MadameMinimes · 09/02/2021 13:33

I like to have a tv in the bedroom but those tv beds put the tv too close and too low down to be comfortable for me. Is there any way you could test out putting a tv on a stand or table right at the foot of your bed at a similar height and try watching a movie to see if the viewing angle will work for you?

goldierocks · 09/02/2021 13:33

My DS is on the third floor (loft conversion). Due to the sloping ceiling, I decided to get him a TV bed. It's just a standard double.

He loves it. No issues with the mechanism after 2 years (so far) and he's not exactly gentle! The installation guys fitted the wires for his games console and they go up and down with the TV, so he doesn't have to touch/faff with them at all.

I wanted DS's desk to be home to just his computer/uni work rather than a place for a TV. The setup works really well for him.

diddl · 09/02/2021 13:33

We have a superking with a mattress each.

Have a fiited sheets from Ikea for the bottom & a single quilt each.

20viona · 09/02/2021 13:35

We have a super king and we have no problems getting bedding for it it's a game changer I'll never be without one.

CallmeNessa · 09/02/2021 13:40

Super-king here and no problems getting linen for it. Check Brand Alley for discounted high thread counts as super king linen is expensive IMO! I buy white though - no idea if there's less availability if you want coloured or patterned linen.

OllysArmy · 09/02/2021 13:42

I only have a king as my DH has his own too. I don’t have my tv in the foot but on the wall as I find the angle and distance better.

We tried out a king with tv before purchased and it just didn’t work for us, having DP said that if I didn’t have the wall space I would have ordered, watching tv in bed is my ultimate relaxation.

Crayfishforyou · 09/02/2021 13:42

We downgraded from a super king to a king. I kept banging my knee on it as it was slightly too large for our bedroom.
We still have the super king duvet.
I am currently campaigning for separate duvets, my DH is a duvet stealer.
If you go to John Lewis and house of Fraser in the sales bedding is a lot cheaper. I got a super king 500 thread count duvet cover for £40 in the winter 2020 sale.
Best thing about 2020 really.

Totally! Even a King Size seems too cosy! Makes finding rental cottages a pain and impossible to stay at caravan parks!

I get most of our bedding from Dunelm - our mattress is super deep too, so have to get the extra deep fitted sheets. As a PP mentioned, flat sheets are enormous and consequently difficult to wrangle.

It can be annoying faffing about with a superking duvet cover then realising you've put it on the wrong way almost every bloody time

I can't comment on a media bed though.

Beds with a frame like that take up so much more room than a divan. We've just switched from a SK bed frame to a SK divan and the extra space around the bed is really noticeable.

Wornout12108 · 09/02/2021 13:45

We have a super king I love it,
Covers always easily available from John Lewis and Marks. I get the deep fit fitted sheets and the only issue really for me is getting the duvet cover on the winter duvet as it's feather filled and so heavy and cumbersome, I will often get someone to help with that bit. Changing my kids covers feels so quick and easy after doing mine.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 09/02/2021 13:46

We don't have a TV in the bedroom, I prefer to read our listen to podcasts before bed, but if we did I'd quite like it to be in the foot of the bed as when you're not watching it, it is out of sight. Not sure how that is chavvy, surely that would be having a 75 inch screen dominating an entire wall?

MidnightHangingTree · 09/02/2021 13:47

I have a double tv bed. I love it, the shape of the room means we couldn't have one anywhere else. I use it every day and have Now TV and Fire sticks plugged in - the tv goes up and down no problem, you just have to get an extender/adaptor that makes them hang rather than stick straight out of the USB slot. Plus there's no wires anywhere as it all goes under the bed.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 09/02/2021 13:47

Posted too soon, we do have a superking and find bedding is easily available from most places but does seem to sell out quicker than other sizes

hoxtonbabe · 09/02/2021 13:51

I have a SK non TV type. Changing the sheets and duvet cover ( more so the duvet cover to be fair) is a bit more of a chore but you get used to it. Getting sheets etc is easy enough, I even got some SK fitted sheets from Primark last year for £10 but they are my absolute last resort sheets. I wait for the John Lewis and marks and Spencer’s sale and can get some really good quality high thread count ones for cheap.

I agree that once you move to SK anything below a king size is impossible, and I don’t have even have anyone sharing the bed with me Grin. The words “single bed” or “twin room” sends shivers down my spine 😋

Holothane · 09/02/2021 13:54

Go for separate duvets and a separate tv. Much better quality plus if a problem would be easier to get fixed.

Holothane · 09/02/2021 13:56

Must be chavvy them I’ve a 65 inch but then my eyes are bad and it gives me wonderful picture quality with blu rays I don’t have in real life.
