Snow on cars

We live next door to a playground that's covered in thick snow this morning. Lots of kids playing in it. A mother was standing watching her kids scraping all the snow off our 2 cars to make snowballs (parked in our drive which is open to the road) and I asked her (perfectly nicely) not to incase the cars get scratched. She looked at me like I was totally mad. Didn't want to be a killjoy but they are new cars (and on our drive).... I genuinely don't think I would let my kids do that....

I wouldn't have thought about the paintwork getting scratched, but then again I know fuck all about cars.

I still would not let my children do this. Regardless of how much risk their is to the paintwork, I just think it's rude and unnecessary to touch other people's property in that sort of way and I don't want my children to grow up being entitled little shits.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 09/02/2021 06:59

I wouldn't let my kids do it because they aren't allowed to touch other people's cars.

Notbuyingthat · 09/02/2021 06:59

YANBU. Might sound OTT but I think this is where it starts... It's not a massive deal in itself but, and for me it's a big but, these parents are showing their kids that is totally acceptable to do whatever they want to other people's property. And what do you do if those people complain? Tell em where to stick it.

Disrespect breeds disrespect.

How are their hands ever going to scratch your cars. That's beyond mean

It’s not their hands that’s the problem.
Xenia · 09/02/2021 13:28

It's not the hands unless they have long nails. It is the metal zip on their gloves and that kind of things, never mind that it is not lawful go to on to someone else's land!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 09/02/2021 13:37

No one should be touching anyone else's cars ! The snow will scratch them .. I would have told them the same !

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 09/02/2021 13:38

It's hardly being precious , our cars were expensive !

Have to confess though, walked back from the shop the other night and there was a little red MX5 parked at the side of the road with a thin layer of snow on the windscreen.
It took every ounce of willpower I had not to draw lightning McQueen style eyes on it. 😂

ImnotCarolineHirons · 09/02/2021 13:44

Of course YANBU op! It would never cross my mind that children would be allowed to walk onto someone else's drive to do this! Shock My DOG is trained not to go into other peoples gardens, never mind my child. Its basic respect for other people's property and belongings! And as for having to pay to fence off your property to stop this, words fail me. How about just teach your flipping kids to stay off other people's drives?

You can really see who the "my perfect child should be allowed to do whatever the hell they want with other people's property because they are soooo pwecious and you're a big meanie spoilsport" posters are on this thread.

If I saw someone allowing their children onto my property to potentially damage my car’s paintwork with the zips on their clothing I would have been a lot less polite than you were.

My car is NOT your child’s toy.

Bibidy · 09/02/2021 13:49

Surprised at a lot of these responses - of course it isn't OK for anyone to be gathering snow off random cars, particularly not on someone's driveway?!

I'd never let a child do that. They could scratch the car, set off the alarm...There's no need for it.

Glittertwins · 09/02/2021 16:44

I tend to leave the snow on the cars deliberately as it's easier for me to brush off rather than the windscreens exposed to ice and then scrape that off.
My cars on my property = hands off!!
