MLM for the gullible

SpringIsComingAlways · 08/02/2021 09:41

MLM everywhere on social media...living my own life selling tat @bossgirl Hmm

Apart from people at the very top is MLM just aimed at gullible people recruiting more gullible people?

YABU all type of people join MLM and make shedloads of money

YANBU it's just for gullible or vulnerable people

In case anyone doesn't know MLM is multi level marketing.... getting others to sell products you sell, like a pyramid with commission to those above you in the scheme...think YouNique, bodysuit, fake perfumes, smelly candles, make up that is ridiculously overpriced due to commission, etc etc..... they come and come and spread as much as covid

MsTSwift · 10/02/2021 08:39

Loving the typo that she has recruited lots of nuns to flog her crap 😁

2021hwg · 10/02/2021 08:39

I have seen a chocolate one a few times as well. Apparently made in a hamlet in Belgium

BelleSausage · 10/02/2021 08:40

@BrightYellowDaffodil

Neal’s Yard was sold by the original founder for millions about 13 years ago to a conglomerate. They then set about monetising the name- hence the MLM franchise bit.

Motheroftwofeline · 10/02/2021 10:06

Lol @ Nuns selling body shop. It’s not a good ‘habit’ (ha ha 😬)

Butterbean11 · 10/02/2021 10:12

I have a hun on my FB talking all about her new venture - some type of juice cleanse/shred/healthier lifestyle bollocks. She is pretty intelligent, and to be honest, rarely used to post much on FB, and now everyday, it's all about this juice cleanse/shred and how great she is feeling with a hundred emojis eye roll. Really putting herself out there, posting others' stories of how their skin has improved, and now advertising to recruit people, etc.

It did make me laugh though - when she put up her first post of introducing what she was doing and how everyone should join her on this amazing journey, she ended it with "comment below if you want to know more and join me on this journey" etc. Lots of people just commented saying "good for you/good luck", not one person actually said they were interested. I really want to delete or hide her, but it shocks me how gullible she is so I kind of want to watch. SO bad of me!

Imagine what communion would be like in their convent: “May the Body Shop of Christ give you eternal life.” 😉
Blankspace4 · 10/02/2021 18:56

And the communion wine would be a juice plus 7 day cleanse huuuun 🤣

YouokHun · 10/02/2021 19:11

“May the Body Shop of Christ give you eternal life Hun”. Never forget the “Hun”.

Off to say 100 Hail Mary Kays...

@kazillionaire

Avon don't strike you off for low sales, nor pressure you to recruit. You are free to pop books through doors or blast social media with multiple posts, they keep out of it
I’m reluctant to pop my head up again as last time I did in an MLM thread I was insulted and called a liar. I work for Avon and was explaining how it worked there, and correcting some misapprehensions

As said above, Avon have no minimum sales, they won’t strike you off, you don’t have to hit a certain level to earn a commission, and they don’t make money from recruiting, only from selling the product.

ketosavedmylife · 10/02/2021 19:43

Hi @BillMasen, Avon does encourage recruitment and rewards this by commissions paid to uplines. This is taken from the avonworldwide.com site.

"There are several ways to earn money as an Avon Representative.

Beauty enthusiasts who sell our products directly to friends, family and neighbours, and online using their social networks and our digital tools. Many beauty enthusiasts sell Avon alongside a full-time job.

Full-time beauty entrepreneurs whose sole income is their Avon business. Not only do they work as Representatives themselves, but manyrecruit, train and support a team of Beauty Advisers too."

Interestingly on this site is explains that Avon is under an umbrella organisation Natura & Co which also includes The Body Shop.

BillMasen · 10/02/2021 19:57

True @ketosavedmylife what I meant was some mlms make a profit simply by recruiting, and some leaders also make money purely by recruiting. Avon as a business doesn’t, if only makes when product is sold. And yes, leaders get commission on what their team sell but they earn nothing if nothing is sold. Recruiting is encouraged but the only way it makes anyone anything is if the recruit sells, and if the recruit sells, they earn too

YouokHun · 10/02/2021 20:17

Who is the Avon product sold to? It seems a very saturated market to me as there are no restrictions on who can sign up in any given street (let alone all the other MLMs also trying to sell in the same place). There are 30 sellers in my fairly large village of 4000 (those 4000 not all in the market for cosmetics etc). Why are reps sticking a load of Avon product on eBay and in every local selling site at knock down prices if they’re only ordering what they can sell? I don’t get it.

BillMasen · 10/02/2021 20:59

I can’t disagree that unlimited reps means some areas are saturated, you’re right.

Reps can take orders from customers, order from Avon, deliver to customers, get customers payment, then pay Avon so never outlay a penny if they choose. Some choose to buy in advance (perhaps there’s an offer) then sell however they want. It’s not necessary, and most only buy what’s been ordered.

YouokHun · 10/02/2021 21:13

@BillMasen do the uplines get paid on what their teams sell when they sell it or on what they purchase (to sell)? If their team members choose to buy in advance (to sell on) and that is an option then the team managers must be rewarded at the point of downline purchase (otherwise Avon wouldn’t know what commissions to pay on retail sales if the rep is holding some stock) iyswim. How are uplines’ rewards on their team’s activities calculated?

Lucyccfc68 · 10/02/2021 22:03

It’s not just the ‘Huns’ who fall for these scams. Got a mate (bloke) who has spent weeks telling everyone on Facebook that he is starting his own business. He is really into fitness and nutrition and is an (usually) intelligent bloke.

He is now peddling shakes and magic pills that help you lose weight. Loads of people telling him ‘well done’ and ‘good luck with the business’

Me - I have just snoozed him.

GrimDamnFanjo · 11/02/2021 01:28

I think it's the Talented Ladies Club website which drills down to the actual money people make. It's shockingly low.

sweetkitty · 11/02/2021 19:53

Work colleague says she has made £1300 selling knock off perfume “Be Scentisible” think the perfume is called Pure or Royal?? Still a MLM as she’s trying to recruit another 3 people Hmm another colleague sells Scentsy which I have bought and I do like but it is over-priced. Couldn’t afford it every month.

southernbelles · 11/02/2021 20:46

Someone I know has a Facebook page for her 'business' & the first thing she has written beneath her profile pic is 'CEO' 🙄🙄🙄

myusernamewastakenbyme · 11/02/2021 21:19

I cringe at the 'ceo' ....'boss babe' type crap on fb but even more so at the use of 'consultant' as their job description....do they not realise how thick it makes them look.

The titles reinforce the fact that people signing up to an MLM aren’t running a real business; it looks like they’ve joined a gaggle of little girls (and the odd little boy) to play shop.

Tropic bots call themselves “Ambassador.” As if they’re spoiling us! Sign up to Forever Living and get Supervisor status, which is ridiculous. Just how much supervision does a box full of aloe vera need? Timeless Vie (one of many spoof MLMs) got it just right with their Super Soaring Flappy Pigeons and Twerking Tits. Grin

ketosavedmylife · 15/02/2021 10:20

Don't forget, today (15th Feb) at about 10:50 Charlotte Dickerson is a guest on This Morning talking about direct selling and MLM. Alice Beer investigating.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/02/2021 12:39

Oh cool, I don't have a TV so if anyone can sumarise that would be interesting.
