MLM for the gullible

SpringIsComingAlways · 08/02/2021 09:41

MLM everywhere on social media...living my own life selling tat @bossgirl Hmm

Apart from people at the very top is MLM just aimed at gullible people recruiting more gullible people?

YABU all type of people join MLM and make shedloads of money

YANBU it's just for gullible or vulnerable people

In case anyone doesn't know MLM is multi level marketing.... getting others to sell products you sell, like a pyramid with commission to those above you in the scheme...think YouNique, bodysuit, fake perfumes, smelly candles, make up that is ridiculously overpriced due to commission, etc etc..... they come and come and spread as much as covid

I loathe mlm's....i have an acti labs hun on my fb...shes banging on about the company moving into a non mlm direction...it still sounds like an mlm to me....these scams need to be banned.

SpringIsComingAlways · 08/02/2021 09:45

Oh dear epic phone changing on spelling

Oh apparently only around 25% of people that join make any money....that's sad.

Not heard of acti labs, what do they promote?

I don't know if it's gullible so much as desperate.

I know it's all bullshit but if I was absolutely desperate and was hearing all these claims of money earned from home then of course it would prick my ears up.

Fagey · 08/02/2021 09:48

I of course wouldn't sign up. But being in a dire financial position would probably make me see it with a bit of hope like "maybe I could be one of the ones who make it big"

Before I'd come to my sense.

But if I didn't know about MLMs then nothing would be there to make me come to my senses - hope that makes sense. X

SingingLoud · 08/02/2021 09:48

I loathe MLM and the people that get involved in recruiting for it.

The latest bot on my Facebook is trying to sign everyone up to Juice Plus. She claimed she got a four figure paycheck last month and said she’d send a screenshot of her bank account to anyone that wanted proof. So I said yeah I’d like to see that Grin. What I got sent was a clearly generic mock-up bank statement that must be doing the rounds because a friend got sent exactly the same thing months ago by a different MLM bot.

Twats, the lot of them. I feel sorry for the vulnerable people that get sucked in but as soon as you try and blag others to join, knowing full well it’s all lies, my sympathy disappears.

Good point, you are probably correct many are desperate. Sad these schemes prey on those will little money who them sell to others with little money

I HATE them with a passion. They are disgusting, predatory and their maths is wrong. There are at least 8 people selling body shop at home stuff in my village. Numerous women sell acti labs and Ann summers and Avon shit too. Can people really not see the wood for the trees!!!

cherriesx3 · 08/02/2021 09:54

I have loads on my social media atm.

is Nuskin one? They sell the lumi spa - that one is really big where I am atm.

It's the before and afters that really kill me - people with shocking acne, then a week later of using lumispa completely clear and glowing skin. Why are dermatologists not recommending it if that is the results you get??

And the congratulatory messages they put up "well done to my babes who has hit silver this week" "omg such a great team meeting today, sooo many exciting oppurtunities coming up"

It's all bullshit.

Peanutbutterblood · 08/02/2021 09:58

I have one friend who has done very well off an MLM, nearly 6 figures but none of the people (her friends) below her that she recruited have made anything. Not that theyd tell you that on facebook. I think the whole thing is really sad

myusernamewastakenbyme · 08/02/2021 10:01

Acti labs seems to sell make up and dodgy slimming products from what my hun bot is posting...all overpriced tat with gaudy packaging that should go straight into the bin.

LudoTrouble · 08/02/2021 10:02

A school friend announced a few years back that she was now selling Rodan & Fields (I think its skincare?) and I was really surprised as she's very smart. I think she's an obstetrician in a hospital.

People like the warm community that comes with these things. I think often they're lonely and seeking purpose.

fairgame84 · 08/02/2021 10:03

My friend started bodyshop last march and she levelled up twice and makes decent money from it. She puts a lot of time in though and she's good at it.
She's a minority though. I have a another friend who's lost money on forever living and partylite.

MakeMineALarge1 · 08/02/2021 10:03

A very intelligent friend of mine has set up at a travelprenaur! I am genuinely shocked that she has set up as a MLM.

MaidofKent78 · 08/02/2021 10:06

Funny, I started a similar post just now about so-called 'Life Coaches' which seem to follow a very similar business model, but with the added issue of seemingly low-qualified people offering life advice which has potential to be quite damaging - hardly ethical!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 08/02/2021 10:06

I've had a few friends sign up to Younique....they make this big annoucement on Fb and then surprise surprise within a couple of months its never mentioned again.

Wow, that's awful. Who will pay someone with little life experience to offer life coaching advice!

It’s the lying that gets to me! One friend has joined one and loads of other huns from the same MLM comment on all her posts about how they’re making sooo much money. They all comment on each others posts to uphold the illusion. Same with the ‘message me quick for this makeup as it’s selling fast I only have 2 left’ even though there’s no evidence of anyone even being interested on any posts about products.

That's the one I am seeing a lot of at the moment, along with Avon and perfumes that smell like other perfume.

I just find the over the top ....I'm setting up in business, I'm so excited, join me in my journey so ridiculous

Life Coaches seems to be the latest thing, it’s great for the coach because there’s no real quantifiable result or outcome for them to be measured by, and if anyone complains they can bounce the ‘blame’ for lack of results back onto the person having the coaching - “oh you just haven’t got the right mindset/attitude”, “oh you just don’t believe in yourself hard enough”, “deep down you just don’t want any change and the universe has picked up on your negativity”. Hmm

It’s all bollocks and the person I know who is a life coach is an absolute disaster in their own life - I wouldn’t even take directions to the corner shop from them, never mind anything else.

Devlesko · 08/02/2021 10:15

If they are advertising you are expected to goin as far as job centre concerned.
Avon advertised on job sites, a friend was told this signing on.
Some people have no choice other than to sign up.

ThatsnotmyBorishishairistoneat · 08/02/2021 10:16

Its shame as people put lots of work in without earning alot/anything

I know someone similar, their own life is a mess... they have made 0 from LCing and continue to plow thousands in to it. Sad.

MaidofKent78 · 08/02/2021 10:19

The life coaches model leaves a particularly sour taste in my mouth. Counsellors, psychologists and registered life coaches undergo a lot of training, are registered and adhere to a strict ethical code of conduct. Where is all of this within the Life Coach MLM model (I'm happy to be proved wrong with this)? The potential damage of this unregulated practice could be vast and it's highly unethical.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 08/02/2021 10:20

I am sick to death of seeing the vague job ads on Fb too....you can spot its an mlm from a mile off...i report them all as spam...not one of them will admit that there is an upfront cost to join and access this 'amazing opportunity'.
