So never posted here before but hopefully you’ll all be kind.... History- moved to a town where I knew no one 8 years ago and met a woman in the same position single parent same age as me and we have become the absolute best of friends. It’s lovely that our kids have become great mates too! Anyhooooo It’s her 40th soon and as we’re in a bubble I’m the only person she can see. (I know poor woman) In a desperate bid for her not to discover I’m actually an unimaginative cow struggling with lockdown and in the spirit of wanting to do something special for her am reaching out to the power of mumsnet. FYI- also wondering how to do this in my small house with our kids there?! So without judging my lack of imagination tell me please WWYD as I need ideas people .... Thank you in advance :-) No vote as I already know I’m unreasonable not knowing what to do Grin

Get dressed up and order some of those cocktail tasting kits

Emeraldshamrock · 07/02/2021 21:47

Any effort will go down a treat.

Does she have friends to so something online which you can organise? We do task master nights, play code names, bake off competitions etc. Need a few friends though.

If it’s just the two of you then some kind of experience - baking, cocktails, craft etc

Tongtwister · 07/02/2021 22:00

How old are your kids? Do you want to involve them? There are online escape rooms you could all do together. Then either order. Posh cook it yourself dinner with her choice of drinks or a takeaway. Some restaurants are doing delivery so depending where you live you could get something different.

curlycat · 07/02/2021 22:08

How about a fancy afternoon tea with cocktails. You can make your own or lots of places are delivering them now.
Decorate with balloons, bunting etc.
Etsy has lots of lovely gifts aimed at special birthdays.

Afternoon tea to involve the kids. Cocktails once they’ve gone to bed

katy1213 · 07/02/2021 22:12

Champagne afternoon tea? I'd just be pleased that someone had made the effort to remember.

katy1213 · 07/02/2021 22:13

But don't do anything on-line - we're all sick of it!

NooNoo1979 · 07/02/2021 22:24

TBF our kids will stay up with us as they are old enough and will love being included.... she loves Madonna so we’re thinking of dressing up as a variety of Madonna’s which is at least a start.... loving the ideas but can’t face trying to organise online stuff while testing cocktails Grin

Just booked for brunch to be delivered for my husbands 40th. Can't wait!

BeardieWeirdie · 07/02/2021 22:45

Rent a hot tub for the weekend and enjoy with champagne.

BasiliskStare · 07/02/2021 22:55

Ah - how lovely - I think really nice afternoon tea & then If you have a table - a little bit of dressing up & a meal you have cooked or a takeaway with candles on the table for dinner would be lovely - very spoiling & I don't think you need to be be hugely imaginative - more the point is as @katy1213 says - someone has made an effort and I bet that would be great. I would be happy with that - all best to you and to your friend Flowers

Emeraldshamrock · 07/02/2021 22:59

A Madonna theme night sounds great get a karaoke machine some cone shape breasts and borderline on loop.
Awh I'd love to join you. Grin

JengaJanga · 07/02/2021 23:03

Can you get something delivered ?

Cakes, Treats, Afternoon tea, Sweet cones etc? With a dinner delivery?

Play some family games? Quiz, bingo,

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 07/02/2021 23:24

Have you seen those cards on Boomf they are different. And then maybe a box of girlie treats, bubble bath, face mask , hair mask, bubbly, chocolates, etc to open doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Put up banners and balloons Then afternoon tea or pizzas and some bubbly. Dance to Madonna sings and watch desperately seeking Susan xx

A selection of gifts to open rather than 1 gift
