to be utterly shocked and heartbroken at how many intelligent, lovely friends and acquaintances have totally bought in to the radical global conspiracy theories...

Seeing so much conspiracy stuff on Facebook threads, its totally alarming.... the folks can really make a good argument, with pseudo science, lots of data etc but we are looking at radical q'anon right wing conspiracy theories breaking through into the normal discussion groups and online groups.....

Elephant yes, I can imagine you wouldn't want to bother any more.

What's the tweet LunaHeather?
I may have misinterpreted, but in the current climate

@doublehalo

TravellingTilbury, absolutely with you on buying secondhand.

Someone near me has set up a tiny 'library' on the street, in an old kitchen wall cabinet they've made waterproof. I swing by every couple of days now to get a new book, and leave my own which would normally go to the charity shop. The sense of community is really nice.

What a great idea. I've seen this with old phone boxes too.
seashells11 · 08/02/2021 19:07

Those proposals set out by the World economic forum are shocking. Surely it couldn't be enforced. It wouldn't be a world I'd want to live in.

doublehalo · 08/02/2021 19:12

@LunaHeather, thanks, no I don't think you misinterpreted. But that's a whole other thing!

There is some intersection though between that agenda and everything else that's going on.

It won't be inforced in the same way mask wearing and social distancing hasn't been enforced. But you'll be told it's to stop climate change and we'll all die if we don't go along with.

I expect we'll start hearing about it in the mainstream media very soon.

LetItGoGo · 08/02/2021 19:18

I love the idea of the outdoor book swap. We get so much rain I think no amount of waterproofing would work.

knittingaddict · 08/02/2021 19:24

The Great Reset is an idea that the World Economic Forum came up with. The WEF is a non governmental organisation. It's just an idea and there is zero evidence that it's something that will ever happen in real life. It's a catchy sounding idea that has been seized on by conspiracy theorists. I mean, "The Great Reset", who could resist.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 08/02/2021 19:25

I don't personally know anyone like this, none on my FB friends, no relatives, no rl friends who don't FB. The only place I see the crazy theories is on Mumsnet and they get shouted down quickly enough.

Where do you all live where you're plagued by these twits?

seashells11 · 08/02/2021 19:26

doublehalo But the intentions are crazy. We'll own nothing, Shock everything will be rented. No homes, possessions, money, nothing......A truly awful dystopian world. Could all that really happen?

CutePixie · 08/02/2021 19:27

I mean some “conspiracy” theories came true, like the scary potential for “Covid passports” thus meaning forced vaccines and anal swabs. Also how dystopian the world feels, with restriction of movement and censorship. It is scary.

I agree some theories are really outlandish, but some did come true Confused

It's no more likely to happen than any other "out there" idea. Less probably.
CutePixie · 08/02/2021 19:34

Another one is when people said that everyone who died after testing positive with Covid19 had their deaths certificates mention Covid19. Then it was leaked that this was actually true, with proof that someone could be hit by a bus 3 months after being tested positive and they would still be classed as a Covid statistic. They eventually changed it to “within 28 days.”

I think it’s scary that people still think people will just drop dead in the street. Also, the increased surveillance won’t stop once the pandemic is over. Scary stuff.

See, I don't understand this? There is more than zero evidence that something will happen in real life because it is already happening - political leaders from different countries (and with different politics) are using the same narrative etc - directly from the World Economic Forum (and the great reset). That's just a fact. Speculation about what it all means is something else, but it is out there and it is influencing all our politicians. www.weforum.org/reports Do you pay attention to the news and who attends Davos etc? www.weforum.org/events/the-davos-agenda-2021

Did that actually happen though? Everyone who tested positive had that on their death certificate even if they got run over by a bus? As the actual cause of death? I've yet to see any evidence that it happened like that other than people claiming such on forums.
knittingaddict · 08/02/2021 19:44

I think this is a start in understanding the false claims surrounding The great reset:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/55017002

I will find more if I can be bothered.

Sadsiblingatsea · 08/02/2021 19:45

Lots of what you call ‘conspiracy theories’ are already here, OP.
I never thought getting a job or being able to travel would be made dependent on having an untested medical treatment.
Or that police officers would be arresting pensioners for sitting on benches or taking away quite basic freedoms.
Try not to be so narrow minded.

TravellingTilbury · 08/02/2021 19:45

Yes CutePixie.

Another recent one is that people were dying of an adverse reaction to the vaccine and it being put down to covid-19. Crazy right? Except it's true (page 19):

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/958616/COVID-19_mRNA_Pfizer-_BioNTech_Vaccine_Analysis_Print.pdf

Thankfully not many, but not a conspiracy either.

Thank you, knitting addict. That is a perfect example of how demonstrating how awful the BBC are at jumping on something and smothering the story (or even non story) to push propaganda. The BBC post a load of shit without sources and sadly millions of people take this as 'news'. Rotten to the core.
knittingaddict · 08/02/2021 19:50

FGS, I really can't be arsed with this. You think what you like. It's like debating with a brick wall and I have a meal to cook.

I'm sure you'll see this as a victory, but there really is no point in talking to someone who gives this brain space.

LunaHeather · 08/02/2021 19:53

Doublehalo "It won't be inforced in the same way mask wearing and social distancing hasn't been enforced. "

Mask wearing is very much enforced on the Tube, unless we have different definitions.

knittingaddict · 08/02/2021 19:53

I typed the last post before I saw yours Tilbury. There are many, many more online articles about this, apart from the BBC. I guess we'll see who's right in a decade or two.

Greenangeleyes · 08/02/2021 19:59

I just don't interact with them. I don't delete them because I don't want to live in a bubble full of people who share similar opinions to me.

Well, if you had told Londoners in the 70s, "by 2000s it will be an investor city and entire blocks of flats will be built that can only be purchased at a property fair in another country" - would anyone have believed that?

Many things are possible. People often forget, I find, how hard men had to f

TravellingTilbury · 08/02/2021 20:01

It's not about being right or wrong though, I think it is helpful to show how ideas get posted (eg the great reset) and where they originate (the WEF) and then how it gets twisted into people thinking it is a conspiracy when it isn't. As I said, what comes of it is a different matter, but that's not the point. The Great reset is a thing - and many world leaders are involved. Don't take it personally!
