AIBU to think that MN can explain to me what is the wild pokemon joke?

I've just put out a snack for cat and called him to get it.
As he showed up in the kitchen, DS said "wild pokemon has appeared /shown up (I forget the exact words)".
Apparently it's a joke and I'm too old to understand it, but he's refused to explain it.
So, I've told him that I'd ask MN and he says that MN won't be able to because you're too old too.
So, please show him that I'm not being unreasonable to think that the MN collective can explain it. And that MN can explain everything. 😄

When playing Pokémon go, when a Pokémon appears in your vicinity it says 'a wild Pokémon has appeared'

I would imagine he is referencing that, and to his friends it might be funny as he's likening the appearance of the cat in real life to the appearance of a Pokémon in the game.

I think he's put out that you didn't get the reference (and it's not particularly funny!)

It’s sometimes used by people to reference something a bit unexpected (but usually good) happening. My BIL is very into gaming and he would say it in respect of bumping into a friend while out, for example. In your son’s case it was presumably prompted by the sudden arrival of the cat.

The point of the thread is whether MN could give me the answer or not, not me finding out what the joke was.

It's hardly a new joke - Pokemon Red & Blue were released in the UK in 1999.

And a wild Snorlax appears means there is a fat person around, judging by all the memes I’ve seen on Facebook.
