I want to start this post by saying I'm not generally a 'woo' person. I'm not talking about ghosts or implying that the furniture is haunted but I am wondering about bad energy. I've NC because I expect to be torn a new one Grin

Just over 2 weeks ago I bought a pre owned wardrobe on the Facebook market place. It's quite old.

Probably irrelevant but the people who delivered it were quite strange folk, the sort you get an uneasy feeling from. It was a very awkward handover.

Well ever since I got this wardrobe in the bedroom I've been plagued with disturbing nightmares every.single.night without fail.

My toddler DD who also sleeps in my room has been saying she is "scared" in the night now, she has never done that before. She doesn't know about my nightmares and has no reason to be so unsettled all of a sudden.

My mood has been quite low for the same amount of time with no particular cause identifiable, I'm finding myself feeling uncharacteristically short tempered and down.

AIBU to think all of the above may be linked to the wardrobe/bad energy.

Bonkers or possible?!

Of course if you are really lucky Alan Rickman will jump out of it. Dressed as Neville's gran.

I don't think "woo" and traditional science are necessarily mutually exclusive, because there are lots of things about nature and the brain that we don't know enough about yet.

I agree with this. Also not woo but my house has really good vibes - I know how it sounds but it’s the only way to describe it! My auntie (also not in the slightest bit woo) described it as having a “good aura” and I bumped into my cleaner the other day (who tbf I have no idea if is woo or not) and she said it “felt happy”. It was the same before we moved in when there was the previous owners’ stuff half moved out and all over the place, so it’s not that our furniture is here or we feel at home here or anything. It’s just a mellow, comforting place to be, and as I say, lots of people have commented the same independently of each other and without me saying anything about it (those two aren’t the only ones).
OP I can see why you’re a bit unsettled by it - wardrobes, especially big wooden ones like that, are a bit inherently creepy IMO! Try the suggestions on here and hopefully you’ll feel better even if it is all in your head Grin

Teacakequeen · 07/02/2021 16:04

@mumwon

it maybe subtle smell? chemicals used in cleaning it or the wood itself or polish or finish used?
I think it's probably the smell. My grandparents had pine and I always thought it smelt horrible
ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 07/02/2021 16:06

Fuck it, I'm going to paint it and get some new knobs Smile

It's the perfect excuse to rekindle the love for an old hobby.

Thanks for inspiring me!

I love a thread with a happy ending. Do post a pic of it when you're done!

I thoroughly enjoyed renovating the old Welsh dresser I had when we first moved to this place (distressed it with a slightly darker colour paint underneath showing through, and a couple of touches of gold furniture wax). Kept it for around 5 years and only got rid of it when we had the kitchen renovated. But I had a great time doing it!

"I'm not generally a 'woo' person. I'm not talking about ghosts or implying that the furniture is haunted but I am wondering about bad energy. "

News for you. You are a woo person. There is no such thing as 'Bad Energy'. 'Bad Energy' is a very woo concept.

(Though, as shoving a bare live mains cable up your nose wouldn't do you much good, misplaced energy could be considered a bad thing.)

GarlicZoflora · 07/02/2021 16:13

Poor wardrobe. I don’t think it’s ugly. It’s just feeling a little unloved. Give it a lovely clean and polish, get your toddler to “help”. Tell the wardrobe how pleased you are that it’s here, how solid it is, what a hood buy it was, how it matches the dressing table. In fact introduce the dressing table and the wardrobe to each other. Open a window. Have a cup of tea. Nice sit down. Say night night to it before you go to sleep. I promise all will be well tonight. I’m an expert in Woo, got a certificate in it from Woo Skool. Trust me.

DejaVoodoo · 07/02/2021 16:14

That's great, OP, turn it into something you love!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 07/02/2021 16:15

'Bad Energy' is a very woo concept.

Try telling that to the residents of Pompeii ...

I laughed out loud Grin

I don't know about that, plenty of people have experienced bad vibes from people/places/things. There are a good few examples on this thread actually. I don't think it's necessarily woo.

I have to do my weekly shop tomorrow so I'm going to pop into wilko whilst I'm out, I have my eye on a very light grey colour with a chalky finish. Knobs look as cheap as chips on eBay so I'll be able to give it a whole new lease of life for under £20. I'm quite excited now Smile

I'll still be smudging when the sage arrives mind you.

Good oh. Tell the wardrobe you’re giving it a new outfit. They’re like bees are wardrobes, you need to tell them stuff.

BrownFootStool · 07/02/2021 16:33

First clean the room, if not the house. Open all the windows in the room. Then get the sage stick, set fire to it then blow it out after a few seconds. It will continue to burn, like an incense stick. Waft the smoke all around the room, up into the ceiling and corners, and imagine good vibes, happy things. Some people visualise a lovely white light filling the room. Some people will say something like 'love and light in this house' over and over. Whatever works for you. It only takes a few minutes to do. You might have to do it a few times.

Alternatively, get rid of the wardrobe,

Grin we need a Zoflora emoticon.

The wardrobe itself contains no energy or capacity to influence your dreams outside of the meaning your subconscious attaches to the wardrobe.
Everything in the universe is made of energy. Everything.

LadyLolaRuben · 07/02/2021 17:18

Get rid of it OP. Burn it or throw it out. Even if its not the wardrobe causing the issues, its on your mind now. Is this hassle worth the cost of preloved furniture?

I know someone who got a wooden ornament as a gift once. The house had terrible vibes afterwards but my friend couldn't put her finger on why. She got a psychic in who went straight to the room, pointed to the ornament said it was cursed and to told her to get rid of it.

If I were you I'd throw the wardrobe away and burn sage through the house opening the windows to let out any remaining bad vibes

AnarchicLemming · 07/02/2021 17:36

It's made from wood, which does absorb energy.

As early pp suggested, sage it or use high quality white sage incense in the room. Keep windows open while doing so.

Sound cleansing will have a stronger effect. Use Tibetan tingshas or a gong, if you know anyone who has one.

Finally, leave two or three black tourmaline or selenite crystals inside the wardrobe.

Longdistance · 07/02/2021 17:48

I don’t like your wardrobe. Whatever possessed you to get it?
gets coat

GarlicZoflora · 07/02/2021 17:53

Serious now... don’t use Zoflora on polished wood. Right, as you were.

Bluntness100 · 07/02/2021 17:56

Blimey, some people really believe and do this stuff?

Burning sage and banging gongs over a eighties pine wardrobe?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/02/2021 18:01

@AlternativePerspective, that reminded me of Uncle Matthew in Nancy Mitford’s ‘Love in a Cold Climate’. Based on a real character, if he didn’t like somebody he’d write their name on a piece of paper and put it in a drawer. And then look ‘pleased but guilty’ if they subsequently died.

Robin233 · 07/02/2021 19:11

I think I've got your wardrobe lol
Had in when I first got married 1998 - from Argos.
In 2003 in our second house dd then 12 had.
When we moved to our present home eldest ds had it in his room - he left a few years back , so I use it for my over flow wardrobe :)
I did have it from new and it's a lovely big wardrobe.
Initially it was in the other corner but the wall to the side of it went a bit mouldy. So it is in the centre of the wall as in the photo and does loom a bit.

I bought a pre owned wardrobe now the place has bad energy..
rawalpindithelabrador · 07/02/2021 19:18

I thought this was all bunkum, too, until I found this mirror in a charity shop.

Get rid of it.

AlfonsoTheSensible · 07/02/2021 19:19

OP, I like your spirit.
