'Lockdown 'til Spring'

Caspah · 06/02/2021 23:01

Why? The Goverment won't even tell us their definition of spring or summer - surely there's some scientific involvement in deciding when spring/summer occurs? This third lockdown is going to be the longest of the lot. In my area I'm hopefully going to get a vaccine soon, but what difference does it make to me if I can't go anywhere?

I dont care if it's the longest as long as it's the last.

What I don't understand is why people seem unable to accept that there's no fixed timescale, because nobody knows, when it's obvious that's the case.

It's like a load of 5 YOs asking when Santa's coming and being unable to accept that it's weeks away.

@CakeRequired

Indeed MarshaBradyo. It’s not like the government hasn’t cocked up plenty of things but the vaccine rollout is very clearly not one of them. We’re at over 3m a week now! How is that ‘behind schedule’?

Both Wales and Scotland have missed their targets on the over 80s being vaccinated. As they are part of the United Kingdom, for now, that means the UK is behind schedule. Hopefully they can catch up again.

It’s true Wales missed the first target, there were reasons for that and we are well on course for the second target as well as now vaccinating faster per head of population than any other U.K. country, so if you could stop using us as ammunition in your little negativity party, I’d be grateful.

Test positivity rate in Wales yesterday was 7.5% and almost 23% of the whole over 16 population have now been vaccinated.

@BarbaraofSeville difference with Santa is that he will come on a set date which will almost certainly not change.

Sadly the same does not apply to the return of schools.

Hardly 'using you', it's the truth, and I live in Scotland so it's my own country failing as well. Maybe don't get so offended by what some randomer on the Internet says who you will never meet? You'll be happier. Smile

I have also can't understand what people are don't get about a fluid pandemic with a mutating virus.

We thought the pre Xmas lockdown would pave the way for a safer Xmas and January.
Instead everyone was side swiped because a new strain drove cases through the roof.
Don't we want some caution now? We've come this far, opening up slowly with the good weather on our side, so many more millions vaccinated... And let's squash this...

Echobelly · 08/02/2021 11:55

Absolutely @Snowsnowglorioussnow - we need to hold on until we can get infections right down and vaccinations right up, and it shouldn't actually take too long. I just wish I could be more confident this government won't do something stupid and waste the effort everyone is making. One month more locked down could potentially save, say, another 3 later in the year.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 11/02/2021 05:51

Well looking on the bright side
There's a fucking vaccine.
What if there wasn't? Ponder that for 5 minutes and give thanks.
Jan and Feb are miserable in the best of years.

Oblomov21 · 11/02/2021 06:11

2 to 5 years? Of this shit? No thanks.
