Going off the back of the salary thread and the savings threads. A lot of people are aghast at the wages and say that ppl are lying!

What do you think is a high wage for say a woman in their 30's?!
Would you say differently for a man?

I think anything over 100k is a high wage for either. 25-35k would be low imo and anything in the middle would be a good salary.

All relative.

When you're a part time working student you think 20k is great, then when you're on that you think 30k is great and so on and so on.

daisypond · 06/02/2021 22:13

Average salary in the U.K. is about 25k.

I’m in London. I earn 32k in my mid-50s. I am the higher breadwinner. I think about 40k is high.

wellthatsunusual · 06/02/2021 22:14

@minimummies

I am not rich at all....I wouldn't consider myself a high earner if that's what you think. This is JUST my opinionI am well aware that a lot of ppl in the U.K. are on very low wages yeah.
But you think they all work part time?
NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 06/02/2021 22:15

But there's no way I'd consider 35k to be low. Where I live that's a standard salary for a professional job like an accountant or whatever.

In London a grad training scheme for accountancy would start on £35k. Qualifying you would be on £50k, and about 3-4yrs later £70k. I moved job 1 year after my training contract ended, and got paid £62,000, and that was quite a few years ago.

2pinkginsplease · 06/02/2021 22:16

@minimummies

Under 25k to me would be extremely low and I would expect it to be a part time role if I'm honest.
I’m not sure if you’re naive or just arrogant but minimum wage for 37.5hrs(full time hours)) pays a salary of £17k!

I work full time in early years and earn 19k I love my job and pay range from £17k - 27k depending on who you work for. Happy with my wages as only Been qualified for less than a year

For me a high wage would be be 35k .

I’m in Scotland and don’t know anyone personally earning over 37k and that’s a teacher.

But you know that someone working full time on minumum wage is only on about £18k? So why would you think under £25k is part time?
minimummies · 06/02/2021 22:19

Anyone I know in less than 25k in their 30's works part time!! If they were in their 20's and starting out in a career then yes full time at

I think under 20k is low pay. I think between 20-40 is reasonable depending on where you live. I think 40+ is good but I think a very comfortable salary is around 60k

justab0utsurviving · 06/02/2021 22:20

High earner is 100k +

Pinkfreesias · 06/02/2021 22:22

I barely got to £20k after working full time for almost 30 years. Anything over £30k is a high salary to me!

Sanchez79 · 06/02/2021 22:22

Some junior doctors start on less than that OP, and certainly teachers, social workers, etc - you need a reality check Grin

I think over £100k is high. Over £5k is good or enough for anyone, man or woman, to contribute to a family pot.

Aiaiaicorona · 06/02/2021 22:24

I don’t really have an opinion because money and earnings are not something I have discussed with friends IRL since I was 18. So I genuinely have no idea what friends or family earn and really don’t care.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 06/02/2021 22:24

That should have been over £50k.

Mycomfyplacetochill · 06/02/2021 22:24

I'm in London, have worked hard for the last 30 years but never earned over £30k

If I earned £50k I'd be so happy but that unachievable as I'm a practical person rather than an academic person.

MyGazeboisLeaking · 06/02/2021 22:24

It's completely subjective, isn't it.

You need to put in more criteria, OP.

Just saying "what do you think is a high salary' gives you no qualitative data whatsoever.

So I'll answer.

£10,000,000 for 3 days, compressed hours plus luncheon vouchers 😁

Anyone else?

Dogsarehairy · 06/02/2021 22:24

@MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat

£50,000 (higher rate tax payer territory) is high imo, especially if only in 20s or 30s.

I am in the midlands and £100,000 for a single earner would be almost unheard of.

Secondary Headteacher? Primary on £75
Sbowiegirl · 06/02/2021 22:24

Outside of london I think anything over £35k is high

Mreggsworth · 06/02/2021 22:25

Im late 20's

I live in the north east. Average salary around where I live I would imagine to be anywhere between min wage and 21,000 a year.

Out of my friend ship group I would I would say average salary is about 25,000. All with degrees.

We generally speak of 30k being "good pay" here. That seems to be the threshold around here from stepping from ok pay to good pay.

ImsorryWilson · 06/02/2021 22:26

Higher rate is £50k, additional rate is £150k.

That’s probably a more objective way to see it

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 06/02/2021 22:26

@Aiaiaicorona but you are aware of other people in the world? Or have researched a salary band for what you do, right? You're amazingly advanced a human to never associate a person's spending behaviour with what they do to earn. Wish I was that insular.

NommyChompers · 06/02/2021 22:27

@Abcdeisarealname - hahaha as a full time dentist with a full time GP OH I can assure you neither of us is on £100k - and neither are most of our friends in the same jobs....

Turnedouttoes · 06/02/2021 22:27

I’m in London and I don’t think anyone I know earns under £30k
For me I’d say a high salary would be £80k plus

minimummies · 06/02/2021 22:28

@Sanchez79 but MOST ppl start those careers in their 20's...My post specifically said a person in their 30's for that reason!
