What would you say are your good / healthy habits? Anything from healthy foods you eat? Exercise you do? Hobbies like reading? How do you relax from work? Keep fit? Looking for lots of healthy inspiration!

I stopped alcohol for the moment. Sugar next.

ChippyTea16 · 06/02/2021 16:55

-I drink 3 litres of water a day
-Exercise 3/4 times a week
-have used sunscreen since I was 19
-came off FB last year which has made a massive difference to my mood
-only check bbc news a couple of times a week and stopped watching the news in the mornings
-stopped ‘saving things for best’ - for example when I wear make up I wear my good stuff instead of saving for nights out (irrelevant now I know!), using my nice candles, etc
-stopped buying extra toiletries - I always used to have 3/4 different shower gels for example and loads of products I rarely used. Now I use what I have and don’t buy new stuff till I actually need it so my spending habits have improved

  • I cook from scratch all my meals, generally healthy stuff and don’t drink unless I’m going out so I make sure whenever I’m out for a meal or have takeaway or whatever that I really enjoy it and don’t feel guilty about any food or drink that isn’t classed as healthy
  • making sure I talk to my DH when I’m stressed or worried about things instead of bottling it up. He’s a good listener and I always feel better after I’ve opened up (something I struggle to do)
toolazytothinkofausername · 06/02/2021 16:58

I remember that I am enough.

Sniv · 06/02/2021 17:04

I have a good sleep routine and am up well before my 6.30 alarm most days.

I walk everywhere, and visit somewhere green every weekday.

95% of what I drink is plain water.

I keep my facebook friends list very small.

Ahwelltoobad · 07/02/2021 07:39

I realized I overeat, and have been cutting my portions in half since early January - and I still feel full! It just takes me 20 mins longer to notice it.
I also floss almost daily, and go for a walk 1 hour every day.

Much too much screentime, must work on that. Also rarely sleep more than 5-6 hours, I tend to wake up unreasonably early - an age thing?

Snowpaw · 07/02/2021 07:45

Eating nuts every morning for my breakfast. They are so good for us but often, when I only ever used to snack on them between meals, I could go weeks between remembering to eat them. Whereas now I am in the habit of having them for breakfast ever day it’s just second nature to eat them with regularity now.

gutful · 07/02/2021 07:46

Don’t drink fizzy drinks, ever. Not even the zero no calorie ones. Drink water, tea, coffee, wine. Fizzy drinks are the devil!

Morten · 07/02/2021 07:54

No mobile phones allowed in bedrooms so no scrolling on apps before bed.

No mobile phones in hands whilst watching tv.

Getting to bed at the same time ish each night.

yearinyearout · 07/02/2021 07:54

I go for a walk everyday
I eat two oranges every day
I sadly have far more unhealthy habits than healthy ones 🤦‍♀️

yearinyearout · 07/02/2021 07:56

To be fair though, I don't drink much alcohol and I do cook from scratch all the time (I just eat too much)

glitterbubbles · 07/02/2021 08:02

I'm currently working on this too!

  • I read every night before bed for 30-60 minutes - this doesn't feel like a chore, it's actually my favourite time of day. I've done it since I was a kid so it's just a habit.
  • rarely drink alcohol - just don't like how it makes me feel so again this isn't hard for me

Things that are more difficult/that I'm working on:

  • really trying to be mindful about what I eat. Getting rid of the belief that I have to eat everything on my plate and learning it's ok to leave things for leftovers. Stopping when I'm full and listening to my body
  • exercise - 3x a week at the moment but eventually I'd like 5x a week to be standard. Really trying to average out at 10k steps/day
TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 07/02/2021 20:40

im teetotal and always have been, dont drink tea or coffee

drink 3l of filtered water every day and pints and pints of whole milk

diet wise im a chocoholic and drink way to much full fat coke and i do zero exercise

i also only use organic products for baths and facial care and do my own facials and i dont wear make up. I never have

im 40 and people say i look no where near that

DelphiniumBlue · 11/02/2021 17:33

I gave up smoking and my bedtime Ribena a couple of years back.
I'm rubbish at regular exercise, might manage yoga a couple of times a week, and a weekend walk in the local woods, but otherwise not much at all. I rarely drink water, but do drink herbal teas in the evening as I don't drink coffee too late in the day and try to avoid much alcohol. Failed dry January, though!
I'm quite good at self care, I read a lot and widely. I try to have positive relationships with colleagues and I think am fairly boundaried. I aim for low carb, but the last few weeks it has been difficult as I seem to be have plied with cake at every turn! This has also been terrible for my sugar intake, which I had cut right down! I do start the day well with oats and a few nuts in the morning, but it's just too cold for a salad lunch. I aim to make a big vegetable soup pot every week to help me over that hump.
So there are a few good things, but mainly could do better!

Ahwelltoobad · 11/02/2021 18:53

I really enjoy this thread, I have now added nuts and books to my goals. I can do it!

Oregano20 · 11/02/2021 19:07

I've started reading more by borrowing ebooks through my library- the Libby app is fab if you don't mind reading on your phone. I definitely feel like it's dusted off plenty of brain cobwebs.

I'm making a conscious effort to eat one portion of oily fish a week, even if it's just a can of mackerel.

I wish I drank more water a day, I forget because I hardly get thirsty.....

FastFood · 11/02/2021 19:21

I LOVE healthy habits, I always try new stuff and keep some kind of tracking.

  • I don't drink (anymore)
  • I don't smoke (anymore)
  • I eat just once a day on week days, twice on weekend
  • I eat a big salad every day, made of cucumber, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, peppers and red onion. Just a bit of sesame oil and vinegar with it. (I eat a proper meal on top of the salad)
  • I cook all my meals from scratch.
  • I wake up early and do a bit of meditation and journalling with gratitude blablablaaa
  • I enforce a strict no-phone-in bed-policy (not that strict actually)
  • I don't drink coffee before 8:30am: read somewhere that drinking coffee first thing in the morning actually makes you more tired, something to do with cortisol level. Well, gave it a try, I just have herbal tea when I wake up and I honestly feel superb throughout the whole day but not sure if its related
  • I try to have a lunch break every day, I don't eat but I relax and nap a bit.
  • I use body mosturiser in the morning. No joke it was the hardest habit to take.
  • not sure if healthy but god I love that: herbal infusion before bed. Sleep Tight by T2. Soooo good.

What I don't do:
Exercise. I used to cycle everywhere but "everywhere" is nowhere now. I just walk my dog now. And he walks really slowly. Miss cycling, but I don't really like cycling without going anywhere. I should give it a try actually.

Also, I live in London, so air quality is probably a bit meeeh.

Oh and my social life is non-existant at the moment, apart from the dog and remote work. I'm a WFH colleague before being a lover, a friend, a sister, a daughter...

I'm trying to implement a new thing to make the most of my weekends: I'm trying to combine activities which allow me to Learn (non-fiction books, medium article, online classes), Create (drawing, home decoration, writing) Make (DIY, cleaning, cooking) Socialise (sending texts, getting news from people) and Relax (Netflix fiction books, bath, clay mask).

I fucking love building habits, I'm so boring 😂

Greenland21 · 11/02/2021 19:58
