What would you say are your good / healthy habits? Anything from healthy foods you eat? Exercise you do? Hobbies like reading? How do you relax from work? Keep fit? Looking for lots of healthy inspiration!

This thread has lots of ideas about habits:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3978071-AIBU-to-ask-you-if-a-daily-habit-has-transformed-your-life?pg=1

I listened to the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear as it was recommended on this thread, and now have a habit tracker app on my phone as a result. My healthy habits that I try to tick off each day are:

  • Multivitamin and vitamin D every morning.
  • Wear SPF on my face and neck every day (more for vanity than health really Blush).
  • At least 30 minutes of exercise every day (most days this is just a walk).
  • Drink 2 litres of water a day.
  • 10 minutes of yoga (usually do it just before bed).
  • Evening skincare routine.
  • Get at least 7 hours sleep every night.

I have lots of bad habits atm though, my screen time is out of control atm, and there's not many ticks on the "get at least 7 hours sleep" habit Blush.

There’s very limited / minimal scientific proof to the claims that lemon in hot water is beneficial.

I’ve drunk it on and off for years and was surprised and annoyed to hear this recently but when I googled it turns out to be true. There isn’t really any nutritional benefit.

But of course it’s water so that’s good and if it encourages you to drink more water and less caffeine that’s great.

It is suggested that green tea is beneficial so out of the two go for green tea

lastqueenofscotland · 05/02/2021 21:43

I’m an ultra runner... I question how good running 50 miles in one go is for you though!

I do yoga 4/5 times a week
I read a lot which I enjoy

However I eat insane amounts of bread and drink far too much. I love Coca-Cola also. Pre covid me and DP would go out and eat insane amounts of food and have 7 beers ALL the time. If we didn’t run we’d both be enourmous.

Nayb2019 · 05/02/2021 21:49

I cycle indoors and outdoors around 100-125 miles a week.
I try to ensure that I sleep about 7 hours a night. I don't drink caffeine past 12pm.

SaveMyGrass · 05/02/2021 21:54

Yoga 4 x a week
Run 3/4 x a week
Time restricted eating (14 hour overnight fast)
Whole food diet
Limit sugar intake
8 hours sleep

But I know I don’t drink enough water, I do get stressed and I do drink alcohol but much less than I used to.

CoRhona · 05/02/2021 22:01

I do 5:2.

Gigia · 05/02/2021 22:06

Exercise (HIIT/weights) 6 x a week
Walk around 15000-20000 steps a day
Eat healthily (vegetarian, mostly non-processed)
Rarely drink alcohol anymore
Drink 2-3 litres of water a day

inquietant · 05/02/2021 22:08

Plenty of others but a new one is actually taking time to recognise good things I do, and the kids do. It really helps mental health.

PurpleDaisies · 05/02/2021 22:11

I do hiit three times a week, Zumba twice a week and a variety of Les mills things including a lot of stretching.

I’m a vegan who loves vegetables so eating is about 80% really good and I don’t worry about the rest.

Some alcohol but not much.

Daily walk whatever the weather.

Bed at a sensible time most days.

yahyahs22 · 05/02/2021 22:12

I don't drink alcohol and drink loads of water

Greenland21 · 05/02/2021 22:18

Thank you so much for your replies, I love these ideas, going to re read them tomorrow and decide on a couple to start with.

No alcohol.
A very bare-bones simple skin care routine
Lots of water.
A variety of fruit and veg.
I take various vitamins such as B vitamins, D, Omega 3 etc.
Normally I would swim a few times a week. I miss the pools being open.
I take life easy and don't get caught up in stressful things that make me unhappy.

BarryTheChopper · 05/02/2021 22:25

I take a multivitamin, vitamin D and probiotic every day
Drink 3l water daily
Do 6 HIIT or weight training sessions a week
Keep carbs down and try not to eat processed rubbish.

I do drink wine on Friday and Saturday nights though!

Imworthit · 05/02/2021 22:26
  • quit my high stress job
  • cut out toxic people
  • lots of sex
  • eat mostly unprocessed food
  • Drink non-alcoholic kopparberg if I feel like bored drinking
-have no phone days
  • regular massages
  • walk the dog
  • water, exercise etc
  • write your to do list and pick 1 thing to get done
  • sleep as much as I can
  • Ask myself will this matter long term? Is the fight worth it?
  • therapy
AubergineDream · 05/02/2021 22:29

I don't smoke (but used to)
I don't drink (but used to)
I walk everywhere and nearly every day (self isolation or illness only reasons why recently).
I love to stretch so have a really good stretch many times a day
I floss nearly every day.
I always take my vitamins.
I drink a litre of water a day at least.
I love vegetables and eat at least 3 servings a day, but often more than 5.
I make sure to dance, to laugh and to cry regularly, daily for the first two! It's been harder in lockdown, but I have found TV that makes me laugh and danced around the house!
I read a lot. I also do a lot of podcast listening and audible.
I am very positive and love people, no matter how many negative experiences I have I always pick myself up and try again and I never lose hope for the future or my faith in good people.
I let go of hate and anger in constructive ways, and try to empathise with everyone. I prioritise kindness, and that includes being kind to myself (I am the hardest person for me to be kind to!)

AubergineDream · 05/02/2021 22:34

I like to get a bit out of breath and push myself to get 'puffed out' every day. But I also know my limits.
I am good at attending all my health appointments, and always take any prescribed medication and finish my course of antibiotics etc.
I ask for help when I need it
I take pleasure in small things and find joy every day
I like to make fun and 'magic' for other people

Imworthit · 05/02/2021 22:34
  • Oh and when I have a lack of will power I embrace it for a day, want to say in bed fine, want to eat a tonne of sweets go for it, drink all the wine meh one day won’t hurt too much
  • the most important one tho for me is saying ‘no’. To others and myself I don’t want to go to that thing, help you with that, I don’t need to achieve 50 things. I used to be a mad A type. Super unhealthy.
Indoctro · 05/02/2021 22:39

Run 5/6 times a week

willieversleep · 05/02/2021 22:40

Wear SPF every day.
Exercise at least 3 times a week.
Spend time with my children.

Imworthit · 05/02/2021 22:42
  • throwing out old shit/half finished projects, old hobbies
  • and an organised and tidy space is awesomely calming
  • essential oils, candles & perfumes
  • throw out those skinny jeans you will never fit in again
  • just because you can do something doesn’t make it worth your time
  • buy yourself flowers
shinynewapple2021 · 05/02/2021 22:49

Placemarking to read later . I don't have many healthy habits although I do go for a walk each day .

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2021 22:52

Fresh from another thread, I always wash my hands after using the loo.
I do pilates
Walk most days or do 20 minutes on the exercise bike if the weather is too awful to walk.

PurpleDaisies · 05/02/2021 22:57

Fresh from another thread, I always wash my hands after using the loo.

That thread was seriously grim.

SweatyBetty20 · 05/02/2021 22:58

Don’t drink tea or coffee - I don’t like either so only drink a couple of glasses of low sugar squash a day and then water.
Alcohol only one night a week - again, I don’t like much of it.
Walk fast for an hour a day every day, rain or shine., if I’m not cycle commuting. Longer hikes in the hills at weekends.
Two meat free days a week.
Have an allotment and eat what I grow.
Don’t follow twats, arseholes, celebrities or influencers on social media - my feeds are mainly outdoorsy stuff like Lake District accounts, mountaineering ones, or loads of gardens and gardening ones.
Vitamin D and a zinc supplement.

Threadgood · 05/02/2021 23:03

Early nights, and listening to my feelings are the two most healthy things I do, and they lead to all kinds of other healthy things without me even trying. For example, I can get about 6 hours work done in the hour between 6am and 7am (I don't know how, it's like it happens to me), and I spend no time at all with people who bring me down.
