What would you say are your good / healthy habits? Anything from healthy foods you eat? Exercise you do? Hobbies like reading? How do you relax from work? Keep fit? Looking for lots of healthy inspiration!

Well, I don't really drink alcohol or fizzy drinks more than once in a blue moon. I also try to have meals made from 'ingredients' nearest their natural form, rather than highly processed/cook chill/etc, as I think having meat, fish, vegetables and some grains (mostly rice) is a way to maximise nutrition. I also try and exercise in some way every day (and can't wait until it's safe for the gyms to reopen).

EssexLioness · 05/02/2021 23:32

Eat a vegan diet, mostly non processed
Exercise daily, mostly walks but some Pilates
Journaling every day, helps work through negative feelings, set daily goals, and also have a section for gratitude
Mantras and positive mindset where possible
Nightly bath and read before bed
Daily skincare routine
SPF daily
Rarely drink alcohol (maybe one glass every few months, I’m just not bothered by the taste of it)

Works in progress:
Need to get to sleep at a decent hour... I’m a chronic insomniac
Far too much screen time
I’m overweight: lost 2 stone since June last year but still have approx 2 stone to go

KasparKat · 05/02/2021 23:34

Hot water and lemon is SO bad for your teeth! Better to have a herbal tea or something like that.

I tend to only eat meat at weekends, don't really have takeaways.
Eat lots of veg.
Eat kefir.
Take vitamins and omega 3 oil.
Do some form of exercise most days, even if just a walk.
Don't eat very much sugar. Ice cream is the only exception.
Only read or watch the news twice a day. Any more than that and it really affects my mental health.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 05/02/2021 23:34

RacheyCat · 06/02/2021 01:18

I eat a low-carb wholefood diet with large amounts of vegetables.
I follow time-restricted eating.
I do yoga.
I take vitamins and supplements.
I walk at least 10,000 steps a day, although currently around 20,000.
I barely drink alcohol.

I have just moved down to the tropics, so I'm wondering if I actually need to take vitamin D any more? I am also trying to wear sunblock and a hat every day now, not least because the sun was turning my bleached hair orange.

grassisjeweled · 06/02/2021 01:27

Loads of water
All food cooked from scratch. Not much sugar or crap carbs at all.
Loads of veg, pulses
Fresh air daily
9 hours sleep per night
Not much alcohol
Don't smoke.
Simple skin care.
Gardening in the spring - I am TERRIBLE at it, but love being outdoors and the idea of it really.
Cooking for pleasure, chopping relaxes me.

I've also stopped giving a shit about what people expect of me - I like what I bloody like, if you don't agree, stuff it! If you think I'm boring because I don't get shit faced all the time, well, what can I say?!

AlphaJura · 06/02/2021 01:40

I walk wherever possible. I dance and do workouts at home. Try to avoid negativity, anxious thought processes, attempt meditation and mindfulness, try not to sweat the small stuff, try to be compassionate. Eat more fruit and vegetables and watch my calories and limit sweet snacks/junk. Don't watch 'the news', don't engage with fb much. Try not to overload my schedule because I get stressed. Take vitamin D, zinc and cod liver oil. Read and educate myself. I only drink one caffeinated drink a day. Stopped smoking.

I can't drink water (I do drink juice and squash) and I probably drink too much alcohol. We all have our vices though.

WanderingMilly · 06/02/2021 05:53

Go out for a walk every day, even in the rain. Helps during lockdown especially, I often walk 4-5 miles.

Don't drink alcohol, have never smoked. Take vitamin tablets with high B vitamin content, seem to help with mood.

Have cut down on coffee, don't eat meat every day, only have 2 meals a day...we don't need all the food we consume these days. I could do with cutting down on carbs but have found that harder during lockdown/winter. I do cook from scratch though and eat a lot of salad stuffs.

Did a digital detox some years ago, don't have Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn.... Don't 'follow' anyone nor get 'liked' by no-one. Also got my name taken off dozens of lists, gave up all my store cards (the ones which harvest data) and so on...I personally think it's a much healthier way to live but others would disagree.

I walk rather than take the car wherever possible. Have lots of creative pursuits too.

bananabob · 06/02/2021 06:12

I've cut down on coffee. Zero alcohol. More water. Vitamin D supplement. 10 minute HIIT workout most days. Yoga some days.

AliceAbsolum · 06/02/2021 06:58

No alcohol, smoking or drugs.
Run 4-7 miles a day.
Prioritise mental health.
Do things for others.

Some days I'd like a glass of wine after not running in the cold rain, but I'd only regret it later.

TheFuckingDogs · 06/02/2021 07:41

Only drink water during the days. Don’t have juices or sugary drinks in the house.
Cook from scratch, whole foods, make own bread.
HIIT 6 days a week, 30 minutes a day.
Vitamin routine daily.
No news and no social media apart from MN
Like reading books.

Do drink too much alcohol though

firstimemamma · 06/02/2021 07:47

Hot lemon and water first thing every morning.
Teetotal.
Vegetarian.
Run twice a week.
I walk everywhere.
Drink 2 litres of water a day.
Try to eat healthily but bloody love chocolate
No Facebook or Instagram.
Minimal, natural skin care.
The same goes for cleaning my house.

shivbo2014 · 06/02/2021 07:56

I do a hiit most days, drinks lots of water, 3 meals a day, try not to snack. Crochet to relax.

shivbo2014 · 06/02/2021 07:57

Also get outside every day, great for my mental health.

Strokethefurrywall · 06/02/2021 15:36

@RacheyCat I live in the Caribbean and don't bother with Vit D. I could be better putting sunscreen places other than my face/neck (as I learned again last week) and walk outside a lot so get all I need.

I don't eat meat/dairy/processed food but the only supplement I take is B12.

doodleygirl · 06/02/2021 15:41

Work out at least 5 days a week, strength and cardio. Start the day with hot water and lemon, eat very little meat, and have a stand up desk for work.

I do however drink wine and eat chocolate Grin

Titsinknicks · 06/02/2021 15:44

I have recently realised it's dedication needed to eat healthily and exercise. If I waited for motivation id never do it.

Exercise five days a week, cardio on its own maybe twice, cardio and strength three times. At least 30 minutes cardio each time but up to an hour.

Rarely eat treats. Concentrate on food that is nutritional.

Vitamins.

I drink too much though.

WhatHaveIFound · 06/02/2021 15:57

I go for a walk in the fresh air every day, normally around 3-4 miles though today we did 5+ in the rain. Am aiming to do 100 miles this month - work permitting. When the weather gets better i'll start cycling again and if the gym ever reopens i'll be back there too.

Diet wise DH and I have cut back on meat this year though I still cook it for DS whose iron levels are low at the moment. Also i've stopped buying crisps and reduced the amount of biscuits we buy. Down to one coffee a day and have cut back on alcohol too.

FoxInSocks2 · 06/02/2021 16:03

I drink water at every meal and try to stick to just herbal tea in-between.

Piglet89 · 06/02/2021 16:09

I eat only when I’m hungry and very very rarely between meals.

Purpleberet · 06/02/2021 16:32

Following with interest for some good ideas!

Good habits which I have :
-Used to go to the gym every weekday for a mix of HIT, weights and lower intensity workouts. Now I try to work out at least 4 days but also don't force myself (this was really hard for me, I had to really work at accepting it and not beating myself up if I really didn't feel like it, and find a good balance of 50% of the time talk myself into it and 50% let it go!)
-Drink 2-3 litres of water a day.
-Maximum 2 tea/coffee on weekdays.
-Eat at least 5 fruit and veg a day, make sure to include at breakfast.
-Only pre planned snacks between meals.
-Only buy 1 or 2 good quality meat items a week, so most of our meals are veggie.
-Get outdoors hiking as much as I can.
-Watch less TV, more time doing one thing reading/crafting/listening to music.
-Spend 10 minutes before bed cleaning my face and use a face roller.

Working on: floss every day, buy less but buy better, spend time doing more creative things, put my phone elsewhere while I watch TV, reduce phone usage - I've stopped using Facebook and wish I'd done it sooner - now trying to bring myself to leave Instagram!

Bluntness100 · 06/02/2021 16:39

I tend to eat low carb, so I don’t eat sugar, chocolate, cakes etc. I also go to the gym five to six times a week, at least half an hour a day.

I’ve been a bit lax since Xmas, a sort of lock down lethargy, so got properly back into it a week or so ago and feel so much better for it.

I’ve a small home gym in an outbuilding, it’s really nothing impressiv, but kitted out. My daughter however does a ten min on line work out in her bedroom each morning before she showers and comes down. I think it’s a good habit to get into.

Past that, I drink, I smoke, and can’t say I lead a particularly healthy lifestyle...

WeeWillyWanky · 06/02/2021 16:43

i don't drink, smoke or eat meat.

I walk a round trip of 6 miles a day as I gave my car up a year ago so have to walk to work, and walk at least that distance on Saturdays and Sundays.

Ladywinesalot · 06/02/2021 16:47

When I’m being good, so not 100% of time but I try to:

Read everyday
2 litres of water everyday
Excersise 3 times a week
Watch what I eat
Vitamins
Sleep 8 hours a night
Avoid toxic ppl
Shower everyday

Improvements I’d like to make
Stop drinking alcohol completely
Eat more healthily and eat less
Exercise 5 times a week
Stop negative thoughts
Improve my mental health
Focus on being happier
Stop procrastinating

Cpl654321 · 06/02/2021 16:50

I don't really drink, in Jan I had 1 singular vodka soda. Might go up once pubs open!

I exercise every day, best thing for my mental health. I go for 3-5k run, or hiit workout, long yoga session if I have time. I don't eat much meat, maybe eat meat two days a week on average.

To balance out all this virtuousness I should eat less crisps and stop pretending that the occasional cigarette is that occasional Hmm
