Today I was scheduled for a zoom interview at 5.30pm. I was told earlier in the day by the recruitment consultant, that i should be getting the link for the zoom call shortly

I waited, and at 4pm i called and explained i still had not got the link etc, i was told 'you still have time, just wait for them to email you, if we told you they will then they will'

5.30 comes, no email.. i waited, and waited till about 5.45 and rung the recruitment consultant - she said 'hes just told me you're a no show, hes been waiting 15 mins for you to come on the call'

I explained how ive been waiting all day for the link, and when i called i was told to just wait. Ive got no link from the manager

She checked and realised she sent him the email with .com instead of .co.uk - and shes very sorry..and 'hopefully he still will interview you'

Long story short, he doesnt want to anymore. Shes rung me to say sorry and that he just doesnt want to interview me

I feel so upset, i was really looking forward to this.

nothing you can do unfortunately.
try another agency.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 04/02/2021 18:57

Tbh I would have called again at 5, not left it til after the interview time.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 04/02/2021 18:58

Well, let her know how costly her "mistake" has been!

OverTheRubicon · 04/02/2021 19:00

That's awful! If it's one you really want, could you try to get in touch with him directly via LinkedIn? Not to force blame.but just to reiterate that you would love to join his team, were ready and so disappointed in the miscommunication re .com etc (no need to blame her directly, it's implied). It may be that she's told him.it was your error - and in any case, so long as it's done gracefully you don't have much to lose.

Cadent · 04/02/2021 19:00

Hindsight is great isn't it TheMobile.

OP, YANBU. That's unbelievably crap of them.

Do you think the consultant didn't tell them she fucked up?

He sounds like a tosser if he knew it wasn't your fault. I hope you find a job soon.

NotFabulousDarling · 04/02/2021 19:00

Sounds like the recruitment agent is scared of admitting she was in the wrong to the employer, and hasn't admitted to him that sent it to the wrong address as she'll potentially lose the contract with the company, so she has chucked you under the bus and is letting them think you're a no show. Sorry. Find a new agency.

DreamyDreamer333 · 04/02/2021 19:03

It's a bit of a long shot but you could call the employer direct and explain what happened. If they haven't hired anyone yet it would show that you're keen.

Ineedmoney · 04/02/2021 19:18

Thank you everyone for the replies! Yes i do feel like she didnt want to say it to him. Shes been emailing me asking me to call her tomorrow and we'll have a chat and that shes so sorry.

Thank you for letting me vent!! It helps xx

Definitely contact the employer direct. If the agent has thrown you under the bus, there may still be a chance.

Hoppinggreen · 04/02/2021 19:32

I had an agency send me to the wrong venue once. When I got to the right one I was late. The Recruiter admitted it to me but denied it to the interviewer. Luckily I had it on email that it wasn’t my error so I contacted the interviewer and arranged a meeting with them.
I got the job
The Recruiter is likely to cover their arse, you are 1 candidate, the employer may be a large client

Cynara · 04/02/2021 19:35

I totally agree re contacting the employer directly! You have absolutely nothing to lose at this point and it's very possible that the recruiter passed her mistake off as you being an elective no-show. Get in touch, explain that you believe there may have been a miscommunication whereby your contact details were not forwarded correctly, and take it from there.

2020iscancelled · 04/02/2021 19:39

Ah I reckon she’s not been honest with the hiring manager and she’s bluffed her way through the “mistake”.

He may well have found a couple of really good options during his interviews and is happy with those.

It’s really rubbish and I hope she is suitable apologetic tomorrow! Good luck with the job hunt!

BertramLacey · 04/02/2021 19:41

She checked and realised she sent him the email with .com instead of .co.uk - and shes very sorry..and 'hopefully he still will interview you'

Was this via phone or email? If email, at least you have proof. You could just email the employer, give the facts of what happened and say you are sorry to have missed the interview as you would love to work for them. However, if they are not interested in interviewing you it may well be that they've already interviewed someone they think can do the job, so be prepared for (more) disappointment. Sorry OP, I know the job market is horrendous at the moment.

Regularsizedrudy · 04/02/2021 19:46

That’s awful op I would be fuming! Definitely email them directly and explain and let them know how keen you were. I hope the recruitment agent stands on an upturned plug tonight!

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 05/02/2021 09:35

Apologies if I came across rudely or unsympathetic. I do hope you get in touch with the interviewer.

If not, see it as a lesson learned for next time. If you have an interview (or anything important) arranged and know that you need something in order to do it then you make sure you have it even if someone else assures you it will be done. Whether that's a video link, directions or whatever. It's forward planning. I spend a lot of my work time chasing up pieces of information because people are not reliable.

Good luck in your job hunting.

CrotchBurn · 05/02/2021 09:38

Contact them directly. Shows initiative.

Merryoldgoat · 05/02/2021 09:39

If you know the employer then I’d contact them to tell them but I’m petty.

I expect she’s not told the truth.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 05/02/2021 09:52

Yep, I'd be dumping the recruiter in it too! Because they may be willing to give you a chance, if they've gone with someone else ok - but if another opportunity comes up there they might discount you right away as unreliable and that's not on. I wouldn't trust the recruiter if they tell you they've explained it to them already, as that's most likely a fob off.

Aprilx · 05/02/2021 09:53

I bet that the agent blamed it on you not themselves. They will want to keep the business and you are collateral damage.

Ineedmoney · 05/02/2021 10:23

Hi everyone! I contacted the manager directly and explained the situation. I now have an interview with him at 5pm!! Thank you all so much!
