Today I was scheduled for a zoom interview at 5.30pm. I was told earlier in the day by the recruitment consultant, that i should be getting the link for the zoom call shortly

I waited, and at 4pm i called and explained i still had not got the link etc, i was told 'you still have time, just wait for them to email you, if we told you they will then they will'

5.30 comes, no email.. i waited, and waited till about 5.45 and rung the recruitment consultant - she said 'hes just told me you're a no show, hes been waiting 15 mins for you to come on the call'

I explained how ive been waiting all day for the link, and when i called i was told to just wait. Ive got no link from the manager

She checked and realised she sent him the email with .com instead of .co.uk - and shes very sorry..and 'hopefully he still will interview you'

Long story short, he doesnt want to anymore. Shes rung me to say sorry and that he just doesnt want to interview me

I feel so upset, i was really looking forward to this.

Good luck op, let us know how you get on.

BigPaperBag · 05/02/2021 13:39

You must come back with an update one way or another! Good luck.

Embarrasedaf · 05/02/2021 13:46

Good luck! I had my doubts at first, but it seems like the manager is being professional and has stepped up - I thought the entire company was worth avoiding at first!

omg the same thing happened to me recently!!! I tried calling and sending emails explaining I hadnt received the email link and all were ignored, so I missed the interview then had a really hostile phonecall from the recruiter after. It really upset me!

Hoppinggreen · 05/02/2021 14:18

@2BDIs

I am so sorry this has happened. Its awful when you get excited about a job opportunity and through no fault of your own lose out. If it was I would personally put a complaint in about the recruitment consultant, as their behaviour was unacceptable (telling you to wait and not be impatient) and unprofessional (sending an incorrect email address and not checking her accuracy) but not sure where that would get you. I would bet she hasn't fessed up to her error to her client as she will lose further work from them. She has probably just said you have changed your mind and not let her know. Could you contact the company directly with your cv explain what has happened and give your correct email address, setting out why you wanted the the job and what you can offer the company You have nothing to lose if they still say no but at least you've tried of you really want it. Good luck in your job search.
Keep up, OP has done that and now has an interview
whatonearthhappened · 05/02/2021 14:21

Why do people not bother reading the updates ffs

Glittertwins · 05/02/2021 14:23

Well done for perusing it. Fingers crossed you get the job.

IliveonCoffee · 05/02/2021 18:57

So glad for you! Amazed you managed to get hold of the interviewer themselves.

I loath agencies, but you cant see to avoid them in job searches these days. I always get ones, that want my life story, hear all the jobs I'm interested in, how I want to apply my degree etc. then get "We have this wonderful not-call centre (it definitely is) for you"

Or they are stupidly keen, how wonderful a candidate you are, sign a gallizon forms to register. Then spring one interview on you, always last minute (Hi 09:00 Monday okay for you???). Practically calling you in the interview to find out how it went (thank god its on silent). If you didn't get it though, oh yes we'll find something else for you (and never contact you ever again) I think they just like saying they have x number of candidates waiting for work, but then advertise the job for fresh stock

Keep contacts close to their chest, give locations out at the last minute. Send job descriptions, and confirm you definitely want to apply before they tell you the exact company (I like to play the fun guessing game of what companies do I know in this sector that operate out of X industrial estate. Always slightly put out if you actually guess!) Told to ask for "first name" at reception, if they have bothered to remember the name at all on the email. So so hard to then make any sort of contact with the company without the agency.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 05/02/2021 19:02

Fingers crossed - I’m hoping they admits your tenacity and desire for the post. Smile

Merryoldgoat · 19/02/2021 09:57

I just wondered if you got the job OP - I thought about you a lot. I’ve had similarly awful experiences with recruitment consultants and your thread stuck with me.

Ineedmoney · 22/02/2021 11:27

@Merryoldgoat im so sorry you went through something similar. Its awful isnt it?

This whole thing has been a trainwreck from the start. Once I got offered the job, they told me in a few weeks, it wont be 9-pm shift as advertised, because of brexit, its getting busy and theyll need me 2pm-10pm

I had to say no because i cant work those hours with the kids. Dh comes home at 8pm..and childminder wont take them past 7pm ..so was looking for 9-5 hours :(

Oh OP - what utter nonsense. But feel pleased that you got offered the role and showed the consultant to be a liar and incompetent.

Still very disheartening.

I saw a job a few years ago which was on with 3 recruiters and I was registered with all of them. They all said I wasn’t right for the role even though I clearly met the criteria.

A small independent recruiter found me online and asked to put me forward for the same role which I was offered immediately after first interview (rare apparently for the company).

I enjoyed telling them where I was moving too.

You’ll get there OP - it’s really tough at the moment I know.

Merryoldgoat · 22/02/2021 11:46

*moving to

Twickerhun · 22/02/2021 11:50

I had a pretty similar experience pre covid I actually traveled across the country for an interview that didn’t happen. I called the company directly. Got and interview. Got the job but the job turned out to be horrendous. I never worked out who lied, the manager to the recruitment agent about the fiasco with the interview but one of them definitely did.

Chin up OP.
