To ask what you heart rate is...

Soon2BeMrs · 04/02/2021 10:09

I'm only young(ish), 37. My heart rate now is currently between 70-90 and when walking around the house can go up to 110. Is this normal? I used to be quite fit and exercise a couple of times a week before lockdown and I never remember it being this high

I am 53 and not particularly fit(clearly) my normal RHR is 83, my Fitbit tells me it is 79 at present and fluctuating between 73-115. I really feel I need more exercise.

DieSchottin93 · 18/04/2021 17:23

I'm late 20s and pretty fit and my resting heart rate is between about 56-62bpm. According to my Fitbit my fat burn zone is between 113-139 BPM, my cardio zone is 140-172 BPM and my peak is 173+ BPM. I do currently go on a brisk daily walk though in place of my usual hour in the pool and do 4 weights workouts a week. My heart rate always goes back down pretty quickly too.

amusedbush · 18/04/2021 17:24

I’m 30 and my resting heart rate sits around 70bpm at the moment. However, I’ve gained a lot of weight in the past year and I’m very unfit.

When I was considerably lighter and more active a few years ago it was around 56bpm.

IAmTheDuke · 18/04/2021 17:29

I’m 40 and my resting heart rate is sometimes as low as 40, usually a little bit above that.
On my walk today it says it was 115bpm, I covered over 4km in 30 mins so quite a quick pace.

Crustybreadandbutter · 18/04/2021 17:30

87 right now sitting!
When I was really fit it went down to 60- 65 resting.

FindingMeno · 18/04/2021 17:30

Mine is around 75.
Even when I was in my 20's and super fit, I had quite a fast heart rate, so I guess we all vary.

Notadramallama · 18/04/2021 18:17

My average resting hr is 51 and goes up to a max of 180 when running. I'm 43 and pretty fit.

OrangeBananaFish · 18/04/2021 18:28

According to my Garmin within the last 4 hours my highest was 161 (but I was out for a run then) and my lowest was 44. My RHR apparently says 46. I regularly see the lowest at 38/39 and have seen it as low as 36. Then again being a watch I'm not sure how accurate they really are TBH. Although once when I was having a check up at the doctors the nurse took my pulse twice as she was a little uncertain at how low it was. She looked at my record and saw it was normal for me.

I'm 42 and run regularly, but I am overweight.

Northernexile · 18/04/2021 18:33

Mine RHR is is usually around 68-72, when 8 exercise it can go to about 160. I had Covid in Feb and it went a bit higher, say late 70s, for a few days but quickly back to normal (for me). I exercise quite a lot and my fitbit tells me that my rate is very good to excellent for a woman my age (40). I'm average weight, 10 stone-is, 5' 8''.

Curiosity101 · 18/04/2021 18:35

I'm 31 and 19 weeks pregnant. Last week my range was 57-145bpm and my average RHR was 60.

You sound pretty normal to me, and definitely relatively similar to what I'd describe for me. I do a lot of walking but no 'proper' exercise.

Fuzzyspringroll · 18/04/2021 18:50

I'm 38. My resting heart rate has always been at around 53-55 bpm. During my hiit session today, it went to 118bpm. It doesn't seem to get much higher than that. Not sure whether that's weird.

Ghostlyglow · 18/04/2021 19:31

Around 80. I'm 55.

MoonlightFlitwick · 18/04/2021 19:39

Can someone advise @Moxxi how to start a thread of their own? I have no idea unfortunately.

Dentistlakes · 18/04/2021 19:48

Resting 55-60, brisk walk 80-85, jogging 120-130, running 150-155 up to 168 all out.

I would say that your resting HR is within normal parameters OP. I always thought that the speed of recovery after exercise was more of an indicator of fitness rather than resting HR, but I’m no expert. You can certainly train your HR to stay lower during exercise, but it’s time consuming and somewhat tedious.

montysma1 · 19/04/2021 00:28

RHR 55.
Used to be 45 when I was training but arthritis restricta me to walking now.

Fuckitfuckit · 19/04/2021 00:38

Mine was 55 this evening when I took my blood pressure.
It can sit anywhere between 46 and 78. 78 usually when I'm worried or in pain.

It is lower now than it used to be. When I was fatter, my asthma was less controlled, which shot it up to about 110 (I had a higher resting heart rate then though so it didn't just double!)

It's perfectly normal for our hearts to go up when we're exercising.

I've found being more active has taken my RHR down too.

Please try not to worry, you'll probably find it returns to normal once you've returned to normal yourself

RaiseTheBeastie · 19/04/2021 00:41

Gosh. There are some posters on this thread that should really see their GP fairly urgently.

Contrary to being a sign of supreme health as some posters seem to think, a normal resting heart rate for the vast majority of people is above 60.

Unless you're a serious athlete a resting rate of approaching 40 is unlikely to be normal. Especially for the poster who's overweight with a rhr of below 40 - sorry but if you're being truthful there's likely to be something wrong that needs investigation.

blueshoes · 19/04/2021 00:46

Yes, it is really weird how so many people on this thread have such low heart rates.

YellowPurple · 19/04/2021 00:47

Around 80.
Over 100 if I'm ill

YellowPurple · 19/04/2021 00:50

Moving around, excersise etc wll naturally increase your heart rate as long as it goes back below 100 when resting, Its fine

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 19/04/2021 00:55

Mine is 45-48, consistently. Cardiologist did say a low RHR in itself is not a worry unless accompanied by concerning symptoms of bradycardia.

YellowPurple · 19/04/2021 01:06

@Lifeaintalwaysempty

This isn't true though is it
Maybe for you, fine but not everyone!
A heart rate of 45 is to low and would set off alarms if you was in hospital

sessell · 19/04/2021 01:18

Interesting that so many of us have abnormally low RHRs. Mine has been as low as 44 - currently 52. Freaked me out initially and was given full range of tests by GP, who concluded asymptomatic bradycardia - normal for some people. I'm aged 54, slightly overweight. But I do walk my 10k steps most days, am vegan and barely drink alcohol or coffee. Those are relevant points. If you want to reduce your RHR test the impact of avoiding alcohol and animal products. My sister knocked 10 points off her RHR when she stopped drinking alcohol for a few weeks (went back up when she started again!). I've also noticed that my RHR goes up a few days before I get ill.

Shrivelled · 19/04/2021 01:26

My resting heart rate increases and decreases with my level of fitness. Much the same was as the other muscles in my body become more toned and strong as I work out . You’d have to exercise regularly (more than twice a week) to see results though. Very gradually increasing daily exercise is a good way to get fit after illness rather than short sharp bursts of fitness twice a week.

caringcarer · 19/04/2021 02:07

Fit bit tells me my testing HR is 72.
