@imnotateacherbut

It's not ridiculous...it is what he deserves. A wonderful man who deserves more respect than your post offers...
I could have phrased it better yes. But it is a bit ridiculous.

what a load of bollocks some people talk ! state furneral ffs

Bamski · 03/02/2021 19:40

I don’t believe that a bloke who raised money for the NHS would want to see public funds spent on his funeral.

I imagine when this is over there will be some kind of memorial/ tribute somewhere for those who made a significant contribution towards fighting the pandemic as well as those who have lost their lives.

NaturalStudy · 03/02/2021 19:40

Its ludicrous. Another way for the government to distract from the fact that whilst what he did was wonderful, he shouldn't have had to do it because the NHS should be properly funded.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/02/2021 19:42

Will never actually happen anyway. It’s just performance grief.

BringBiscuits · 03/02/2021 19:43

This is getting embarrassing. I’m sure he was a nice man but a state funeral? Seriously?

littlepattilou · 03/02/2021 19:43

@missrm

There's already a thread about this!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4155451-NO-to-a-state-funeral-for-Captain-Sir-Tom-Moore-AIBU

Do we really need any more anti-Captain Sir Tom Moore threads starting?! Hmm

Just bore off FFS!

warmandtoasty2day · 03/02/2021 19:44

always the same when anyone famous dies, or dies under unusual circumstances but people din't know them but just was to be part of the drama. makes me want to puke.

hardheadedwoman · 03/02/2021 19:45

George Michael should’ve had a state funeral 😂

Yeah I know. Previously apologised for missing that one.

Also, it's an internet discussion board..!? I can discuss whatever I see fit to.

Also - calm down. I'm not anti - Tom. He seemed like a wonderful character. My issue lay with the need for a state funeral.

OP posts:
SmidgenofaPigeon · 03/02/2021 19:49

@iklboo don’t worry- it happens to me on a daily basis!

warmandtoasty2day · 03/02/2021 19:50

ladies untwist your knickers and step away from your key boards

Defenbaker · 03/02/2021 19:52

There's no escaping this subject today, he's been all over the news, mentioned on several TV shows, and they've even aired a special documentary about him. I suppose next there will be calls for the church to canonise him... it's becoming a farce.

He probably had a habit of walking in his beautiful garden each day for a bit of exercise and fresh air - people don't reach 100 by neglecting their health. So, he was a good example to other elderly people, to keep active, and he raised some money for NHS charities in the process of taking his daily exercise. All good, but enough already!

Nope, I will just stay RIGHT HERE. So don't tell this LAYDEE to step away from the keyboard eh LUV? Hmm

And don't assume I am wearing knickers.

Fair enough. I am just sick of the anti Tom stuff on here tonight. So much of it!

Fembot123 · 03/02/2021 19:56

He should have a military honours funeral not a state one.

AlwaysCheddar · 03/02/2021 20:06

State funeral! Ridiculous.

CharlotteRose90 · 03/02/2021 20:07

No sorry . This is mad. Yes he did something good but he doesn’t deserve a state funeral . Who is paying for it? Plenty of other people did fantastic things during lockdown and none of them got as much recognition as him. It’s crazy.

warmandtoasty2day · 03/02/2021 20:10

little i don't give a fuck what you are wearing but just calm down and stop talking like a prat [your last response to me] you are the one who is whinging about the threads and telling people 'to bore off' why not take your own advice ?

AgeLikeWine · 03/02/2021 20:12

State funeral?

FFS, this is getting toward Diana levels of completely ridiculous mass hysteria.

Tom Moore did a great job raising a lot of money for a good cause in a short time. He received plenty of recognition during his lifetime, including a knighthood. Quite right, too. Now let him rest in peace.

littlepattilou · 03/02/2021 20:20

@warmandtoasty2day Calm down luv.
