How to get rid of my post menopausal fat bum?

Just that. It's driving me mad. I've always been petite, exercised lots, eaten well. Post meno, I've put on weight that I can't shift no matter what I do (about 10lb) and not really around the middle...more thighs and bum.

This has happened despite not eating a lot; I exercise - do resistance work mostly - and generally work hard to keep in shape.

But it's so much harder know.

Advice please. It's depressing me

Post menopausal fat does seem to take twice the effort to shift and any excess shows even more on a petite frame.

Are you doing regular squats as part of your exercises? They help to firm things up a bit!

How do you feel about running?

I’m not menopausal yet but I am 47 and it’s the only thing that works when I add low carb

My bum is pert...I do lots of squats. It' just BIG. Ugh.

I don't like running anymore but maybe I should go back to it.

When you saying you're not menopausal yet BUT....believe me, it's a different beast when it's behind you rather than in front. Things don't happen like they used to

😫 I already have to run and low carb

Will await the reality of change

Lots of cardio as well as lots of weights, and watching your processed/sugar carbs. (Not keto - I eat fruit and veg, lentils etc, and I just kept mine under 100grms a day, and it worked very well. I could have oatmeal and a sandwich for lunch if I wanted, for example, but then I would have a dinner than was mainly veg and protein.)

@sceptimum - thanks. Some questions, if you don't mind...

How much exercise do you do? What's your routine across the week?
Do you have a cal intake per day?
Have you lost weight?

I also have a bust thyroid, so weight loss is really really tricky for me, but I have dropped a few kgs, definitely lost inches and regained shape in that area.

  • Running, 20-30 mins 4 or 5 days a week.
  • Yoga/Pilates, 2 sessions a week.
  • Weights or strength class (not recently) twice a week. With the gyms closed here I have lost access to weights. Not having this is really showing up in my arms and belly shape.
  • I also walk with the dogs and the kids several times a day so I am quite active most days.
So two workouts a day a few days a week - often do a run in the morning, and pilates in the evening. Yoga can be pretty low-key - I often watch TV while doing stretches for half an hour.

Calories - I guess I eat about 1,800 a day, more some days. I use the Carb Manager ap to count my carbs and keep them below 100grms most days, but I don't count fruit, most veg, lentil and bean carbs, just the processed stuff - bread, pasta, cereal, milk, anything with sugar added. Try reading "How Not To Diet" - it's a really interesting book on the scientific studies made of various approaches to food and weight loss.
That worked really well for me when I was doing it strictly, and less so the last few months when I haven't been bothering as much. Good luck with it.
