Aibu to cheat? Would you cheat ?

Bit of a moral dilemma here.
Tomorrow I have a final interview for a job I have wanted for years
Today they emailed and said due to technical issues the interview would be a phone interview again (I've already had a phone interview for this role, this was meant to be zoom)
So I'm thinking of writing some questions and answers out so I'm prepared and so I sound good.
My friend has said that's cheating and I should just treat it like I would a zoom.
What would you do?
I've been on glass door and wrote out and answered some interview questions apparently they ask.
Aibu to do this?
Is it actually cheating?

I’m a writer, not a talker, which means I’m perfectly articulate when I wrote

Oh, man! 🤣

When I write, of course! 🙄

Frouby · 02/02/2021 21:24

Definitely not cheating.

Have another look at the person specification if there is one and write some STAR answers if you haven't already. Situation, Task, Achievement, Results.

So if job roles says able to deal with conflict you would give a STAR answer related to dealing with conflict.

Situation 'Customer came in, he was a right knobber, shouting and effing and jeffing cos his blow up doll had burst after only 3 years of heavy use. Anyway, I listened to the lairy fucker for 10 mins but could see Sandra from QC was getting pissed off, so I managed to calm him down, sent her to fetch a newer model out and we inflated it there and then.

Task 'we are supposed to retain customers and upgrade them every 3 years anyway. So I showed him how 'Katie' works, her key features etc and the dirty old twat was proper horny by now.

Achievement ' he spunked another £300 on 'Katie' and is coming back next month to meet 'Chloe'.

Result 'more sales and a happy wanker'.

Obviously not that particular one but you get what I mean.

gingerbreadmann · 02/02/2021 21:25

@Frouby ha ha ha ha can you imagine if I used that example

Can I work there, it sounds a blast 😂
floofycroissant · 02/02/2021 21:27

Not cheating, even on zoom I have notes pinned to the wall behind my screen.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 02/02/2021 21:28

Not in the slightest bit cheating. Isn't this what everyone does? They just normally have to try and remember it instead of having it written down?

Good luck OP

RaidersoftheLostAardvark · 02/02/2021 21:30

Notes are a great idea. Just avoid sounding too scripted or falling back on a pre-written response that doesn't actually answer the question. Good luck!

anxiousmess81 · 02/02/2021 21:30

Not cheating at all! Do it!

Minnie16889 · 02/02/2021 21:32

I done that a few weeks ago, had an interview on Skype, not video tho it was just a call.
I sat there with piles of paper surrounding me Grin
Its for the same job im in now, so i was able to do my own questions and answers as i know mostly what would be asked... but i get major interview nerves, my mouth clamps up and dont know what to say, i know the answer to what they are asking but i just can not find the words, its so embarrassing.
Luckily they seen past my nerves and i got the job.

Good luck, preperation is a good thing

sabrinathemiddleagewitch · 02/02/2021 21:32

@gingerbreadmann

Do you have any thoughts on possible questions that might come up? I'm trying to think of everything
They always ask at the end do YOU have any questions. So have a couple prepared that they won't answer generically. Makes you look interested in the role and..... prepared 🤣🤣
Pukkatea · 02/02/2021 21:41

I go into face to face interviews with my notebook full of examples open in front of me. I've referred to them very obviously before and got the job, a former manager said she had loved how prepared and confident I was. The questions are meant to be about what you can do, not a memory test.

gingerbreadmann · 02/02/2021 21:48

You know which question I always struggle with
What motivates you to get out of bed on a morning..
1 knowing I can achieve something that day
2.the prospect of taking on a new challenge
3.learning new things in my job.

Total rubbish as its coffee and money that gets me up but I can't say that can I Grin

Not cheating, you're allowed to bring notes to normal interviews. Good luck!

LadyCatStark · 02/02/2021 21:50

That’s not cheating!

SEE123 · 02/02/2021 21:54

Not cheating at all. It's interview prep! I'd suggest bullet points instead of paragraphs on each question to make sure you tick off all the relevant points for each question, that way you're less likely to read off the page (which wouldn't be great otp or via zoom)

Good luck!

Gliblet · 02/02/2021 21:55

100% agree with everyone saying take in notes but don't script your replies.

If you've wanted this job for years then you're going to be able to find something about it that motivates you - that's all they're asking about with the 'gets you out of bed' question, it doesn't have to sound like you want to marry the job Grin Have a think about why you want the job, what is it about it that speaks to you and means you'll go to all this effort to get it?

Some good ones for the inevitable 'do you have any questions' (obviously depending on what you've already been told):

  • ask what that particular interviewer likes about working for the company/likes about the team
  • ask if there is a particular challenge or issue they'd like you to address within your first 6 months of working there
  • ask what kind of induction process you might anticipate should you be offered the role
Gwegowygwiggs · 02/02/2021 21:55

Your friend is a total sad act. It’s not a bloody exam 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it’s an INTERVIEW. How can you “cheat” at an interview??

yaybacktoschool · 02/02/2021 21:57

I've always taken notes with me even to face to face interviews. Been successful in them with notes.
It's not cheating it's being prepared.
You can't be expected to remember all the fine details about a company for example but you can take in notes with you shows you've read widely about the job.

louisejxxx · 02/02/2021 21:58

Definitely not cheating - I once had my interview notes on a split screen with a zoom. If you’ve taken the time to prepare properly, research and write out your answers like that, then it is 100% not cheating.

Taylrse · 02/02/2021 21:59

Not cheating!
My last interview I had prepared questions and answers next to me just in case (video call)

Bessica1970 · 02/02/2021 22:00

I had a zoom interview for my dream job during the first lockdown and had big prompt cards blue-tacked to my kitchen wall behind my computer so I could just shift my gaze to get the info I needed. I probably wouldn’t have got the job if I’d had a face to face interview as I always forget the great stuff!

Whysolong7 · 02/02/2021 22:00

How is this cheating?

Dee1975 · 02/02/2021 22:02

Cheating??!! No way! It’s called being prepared!

ktp100 · 02/02/2021 22:06

Being prepared is in no way cheating.

gingerbreadmann · 02/02/2021 22:07

Ah thanks everyone
I feel a bit calmer now.
I have split my notes in sections
About me
Targets
Customer service etc
So when they ask a question I know where to look.
I hope I'm not over thinking it
When I was younger I went for interviews and I didn't even prepare.
Maybe my old age is making me more conscientious.
