Sunshineonarainydayy · 02/02/2021 20:44

Do you think one is more posh to say than the other?
If so,
YABU living room is more posh
YANBU lounge is more posh

If you want to be posh, it’s the drawing room.

burritofan · 02/02/2021 20:49

Trickaloo, it’s actually sitting room.

Sbowiegirl · 02/02/2021 20:49

We call ours the living room when speaking. But lounge when writing. Weird

Bixs · 02/02/2021 20:49

Neither is posh at all.

dudsville · 02/02/2021 20:50

I've always wanted a "Den" personally.

littlesugarmonkey · 02/02/2021 20:50

We have a sitting room ... definitely not posh here

WhatWouldZenoDo · 02/02/2021 20:51

I just say sitting room which is what my parents say so therefore it seems like the NORMAL way of saying it.

Just say sitting room, you can't go wrong.

Ijustlikedthename · 02/02/2021 20:52

I was having this conversation with my husband the other day. I think lounge is posh! I have always said living room

WhatWouldZenoDo · 02/02/2021 20:52

@BlueTimes

If you want to be posh, it’s the drawing room.
Do you have to have more than one sitting room to call one the drawing room? Or just a dining room and a drawing room. Actually yes, that must be it. Jane Austen plots helped me figure this out!
HelloDulling · 02/02/2021 20:53

Sitting room. Lounge is very not-posh.

Justkeeprollingalong · 02/02/2021 20:54

We call it the front room, even in houses where the said room isn't in the front of the house! I think it's a North East thing.

Flavabobble · 02/02/2021 20:54

Livin' room.

BeautifulStar · 02/02/2021 20:55

Lounge is awful - Properly posh people would never say Lounge.

Atalune · 02/02/2021 20:57

Sitting room here. Front room sometimes as it’s at the front of the house.

We always called it the living room growing up though.

SilenceOfThePrams · 02/02/2021 20:58

Sitting room. Lounges are for airports.

GoryGilmore · 02/02/2021 20:59

The posh families I know have a more formal room that they call the sitting room and a cosier, more relaxed room that they call the snug.

mommybear1 · 02/02/2021 21:00

Living room or sitting room my Nanny used to tell us only pubs have lounges Grin

SingingWaffleDoggy · 02/02/2021 21:00

Sitting room here too. My friends at school used to say sitting room was posh though

MyNameForToday1980 · 02/02/2021 21:01

Lounges, like settees and toilets, are the domain of the working classes.

Ileflottante · 02/02/2021 21:01

If you’re posh, the only ‘lounge’ you’ll sit in will be at the airport.

Hyppogriff · 02/02/2021 21:01

Neither are posh. Sitting room is probs more proper but call it what you like! I’d prob be considered quite posh but I call it lounge and Proud!

natalienewname · 02/02/2021 21:02

Neither.

Snug and drawing room is posher

Jarstastic · 02/02/2021 21:02

Drawing room then sitting room.
Definitely not lounge!

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/02/2021 21:02

Both are wrong, cannot vote. I think posh is
-morning room
-sitting room
-drawing room
-great room (in great hall)
-after that you name the extra sitting rooms by features- ie garden room, Rose room, etc

flowerycurtain · 02/02/2021 21:05

We have one massive big room used for sitting in at our house. It gets called the following by various people:

Drawing room: Mother in Law and Mum
Sitting room: Me and husband
Big City Room: kids

Never lounge. I wonder at what point I will move from sitting room to drawing room and if that will be the sign of old age
