When you look into the near future of this current shit show, what do you see? For example, this time next year, where do you think we’ll all be at?

OP posts:
heyjude12 · 02/02/2021 20:45

Traumatised lots of mental health problems but living a full life

Netflixisoverrated · 02/02/2021 20:52

@heyjude12 Do you believe we’ll be back to ‘Normal’ this time next year? 🙏

OP posts:
Kljnmw3459 · 02/02/2021 20:53

Arguing amongst ourselves about some different thing.

Kljnmw3459 · 02/02/2021 20:54

Other than that we're back to normal by then

heyjude12 · 02/02/2021 20:54

Yes but fear will stop us living fully. But yes I really think normality is not too far away x

Bixs · 02/02/2021 20:55

A gazillion more threads asking us to predict the future

SingingWaffleDoggy · 02/02/2021 20:56

Rebuilding what we have lost. In the midst of a WHO enquiry into the origin and spread.
Living a relatively ‘normal’ life with a little more caution than before. I think there will be a lingering fear in the minds of most. I’m no expert but this would be my guess.

justanotherneighinparadise · 02/02/2021 20:57

High taxes.

Witchend · 02/02/2021 20:58

Complaints about fireworks on the local fb chat.

Complaints about complaints about fireworks on the local fb chat.

Complaints about complaints about complaints about fireworks on the local fb chat.

That's basically back to normal.

Netflixisoverrated · 02/02/2021 21:01

This is helping me tbh! But is this what you all truly believe, or what you want it to be like?

OP posts:
BeautifulStar · 02/02/2021 21:03

I pray to God it will be a lot closer to 2019 than 2020/21. I hope there will be a massive boom and everyone will go crazy - the roaring 20’s all over again!
But who knows really? If the vaccines work we should be pretty much back to normal this time next year.

December 2022 we can start to put this thing behind us.

Bluntness100 · 02/02/2021 21:07

God I hope we are back by the summer, this is the plan, but the mutations concern me, I can’t decide if they are normal vaccine mutations and they just don’t know, and are using it to scare us into staying home another few weeks or if there is something to be worried about

I try not to focus on it forecasting it, but just hope that the plans to be open and free in the summer and this is basically our last lock down I hope are played our successfully

My optimism is sturgeon tends to be very, very cautious and act first, and she’s seen way more data than we have, and she’s opening schools. Which I think should tell us something.

Are schools opening in Scotland? If so, that’s very good news.

Yes she said she is looking at a phased return starting on 22 feb and will confirm to parliament within two weeks,

The plan is preschool, primary one two and three at that point, sith a limited number of senior school pupils too.

It’s not definite but she’s announced to the Scottish Parliament at this stage that’s her plan if the decline continues.

  • "The judgment the Cabinet arrived at this morning, based on the advice of our expert advisers, is that if we all agree to abide with the lockdown restrictions for a bit longer, so that our progress in suppressing the virus continues, we can begin a phased return to school from February 22."

"Our intention is that from week beginning February 22 there will be a full-time return of early learning and childcare for all children below school age, a full-time return to school for pupils in primaries 1-3, and - a part-time return, but on a very limited basis, for senior phase pupils to allow in-school practical work that is necessary for the completion of national qualification courses."*

Thank you Bluntness - that’s very encouraging!

ElectraBlue · 02/02/2021 21:21

What is the point of trying to predict the future in the middle of a pandemic? Take it one day at the time and enjoy the fact that you are still here to enjoy that particular day.

Bluntness100 · 02/02/2021 21:27

@BeautifulStar

Thank you Bluntness - that’s very encouraging!
Yes that’s my thought, sturgeon sees the same data as Boris, as head of one of the nations. She is much more cautious than Boris and she likes to get in there first

So my thought is maybe it’s a ray of optimism if she’s saying this. And she is saying it, with the backing of her cabinet.

GettingUntrapped · 02/02/2021 21:27

When I look at the near future, I see more of the same. Uncertainty. But life's like that anyway. We are just more aware of that now...the fragility of our lives.

TrickorTreacle · 02/02/2021 21:40

@Bluntness100 - I wouldn't worry too much about the mutations. I absolutely despised how the BBC has covered the pandemic. So much negativity and speculation, and their stories on mutations is no different. I had to teach myself to minimise exposure to it as it was affecting me negatively.

I think the issue with mutations will become similar to the yearly flu jab. Every year, the flu virus mutates into new strains and the vaccine is updated to cover those latest 3 or 4 strains. Of course it doesn't cover every strain, and so the vaccine is around 60-70% efficient. The covid vaccine will become a yearly jab (or 2 jabs) as well to cover the new strains. So we'll have to live with it but it won't be any more of a problem to us than the flu is in the long run.

On predictions, I think we'll a summer similar to summer 2020 with groups bigger than 6 allowed outdoors/indoors. Then face masks and social distancing gone by the autumn. Mass events like Christmas markets will be allowed this Christmas, and festivals like Glastonbury will be allowed again next year.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 02/02/2021 21:46

I anticipate lots of burnt out anxious staff, who need time to reflect and heal
I will never tell anyone external to my immediate work colleagues what I’ve been through
I think covid vaccine will be an annual offering
I think Scotland and Eire will continue to move closer to independence from UK

Thanks for this. ☺️

As said, I was in two minds, part of me said viruses mutate, the government is known for scaremongering to ensure people comply. Is this a real issue or is this just an abundance of caution

And I fully agree on the bbc, honestly I watch it some mornings and evenings and groans, there was an article the other day where they were in a funeral home, with all the coffins on display, it really was just awful and no need for it, unless it’s coupled with the same amount of positive articles and balanced ones. But it’s not.

watchingabike · 02/02/2021 22:36

I am beyond sick of all this and genuinely thought it would be gone soon but tonight's BBC news has made me think that actually it won't ever be life as we knew it for a long time, if ever.

And I take no pleasure from saying that

Netflixisoverrated · 02/02/2021 22:52

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee Are you a doctor/nurse if you don’t mind me asking? Has what you’ve witnessed been traumatic?

Netflixisoverrated · 02/02/2021 22:53

@watchingabike Why, what have they said? I try not to watch BBC
