When you look into the near future of this current shit show, what do you see? For example, this time next year, where do you think we’ll all be at?

Pandemics have come before to a much less nourished population. Pandemics don't last forever and like with other flu viruses ,we might need to vaccinate yearly but its not such a big deal

Saz12 · 02/02/2021 23:19

I genuinely believe will be “back to normal” this time next year.

I’d like to think that there will be more I vestment in NHS, and a lot more for preventative health. Also a greater consideration of acting “for the public good” rather than as individuals.

I also hope there’s more of an emphasis on”evening up” both the wage gap and respect between highest earners and lowest earners, but I doubt it.

Gobbeldegook · 02/02/2021 23:21

I'm disappointed. Clickbait title. I was expecting a picture of something rude disguised as something not rude. I thought you wanted to see how filthy we were.
But no. Bloody covid again.
Sad

inquietant · 02/02/2021 23:23

We're either going to be still dealing with some covid shite, or the impact of the cuts the Conservatives will impose straight after.

I'm hopeful the vaccines will work, but I think we'll be dealing with an awful lot of fallout.

Netflixisoverrated · 02/02/2021 23:25

@Gobbeldegook 🤣I’m sorry. I can’t wait until frivolous things like that are back on my radar.

GreenClock · 02/02/2021 23:38

I think that we’ll be back to normal by February 2022 but that social changes will have occurred.

For example I think that WFH for some/all of the week will be normal with far less business travel taking place (Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has predicted this, and HMRC has offered its staff 2 days per week WFH factored into their contracts from June).

Technology will have changed things and will save money for service providers. Online GP appointments, online banking, ordering via apps in bars etc. I welcome this but worry about digitally excluded individuals.

Coming to terms with the fact the newest 50 mutations will kill humankind off - so arguing over resources/going to war/martial law and curfews...

bluebellscorner · 02/02/2021 23:45

I think we will be in the same exact situation but we may have had few breaks from lockdown between then and now. This is because I can't get over the fact that there is currently no knowledge about exactly how long the vaccines give immunity, for obvious reasons. I have heard that it could be as little as three months, it may not be this little but in any case it looks like the jabs are going to have to be repeated, and I think we can all see how that is going to play out.

My mind lives in the gutter 😂

FossilisedFanny · 02/02/2021 23:53

I’ve given up guessing what will happen, I didn’t see this coming so imo god knows what the future holds . I’m now , reluctantly, just going with the flow because trying to second guess everything is doing my head in .

I think Scotland and Eire will continue to move closer to independence from UK

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee If by "Eire" you mean the Republic of Ireland, then we have at least a century of history to introduce you to before we even think about the future.

GreenlandTheMovie · 03/02/2021 09:55

I personally think we live in a modern day equivalent of the dark ages, so more of that. Less educated people with intellectual curiosity to properly challenge government, more downgrading of expectations "(foreign holidays are bad"), higher prices, less news reporting on everyday life in other countries. And yet more Snp stirrup of hatred of England, because that deflects from their own poor management, so linked to that, yet more thick as mince men on FB trying to mansplain how wonderful Scotland will be magically accepted into the EU, through some hitherto unknown entry procedure, when the EU has studiously avoided commenting on the issue.

Badlo · 03/02/2021 09:58

I’ve totally lost all interest in life at the minute so anything that’s better than this.

Didiusfalco · 03/02/2021 10:04

I think the summer will be loads better. The next autumn and winter may be a bit tricky and we will have something of a divide where those who have done well through the pandemic, worked from home, saved lots of cash have a roaring 20s and simultaneously there will be high unemployment and mental health problems.

steppemum · 03/02/2021 10:05

I don't think we will ever comepletely go 'back to normal'

I think what is considered normal will change.

In particular, I think that travel will have much tighter restrictions, proof of negative tests or vaccine etc.
I think there will be regular small outbreaks, but no local lockdowns, more that there will need to be quikc tracing of contacts.

I think economically the world will have changed. Some countries may take decades to recover (including our own)

I also think that some form of social distancing may become part of our culture. In the same way that between 1950 and 2000s it suddenly became socially acceptable to hug everyone, inlcuding almost strangers, that will reverse.

I also think our view or care homes and carers has shifted, and hopefully our view of teachers. But on the down side, many women have lost jobs/careers due to the effect of having to be at home.

Autumn101 · 03/02/2021 10:26

I think the summer will be similar to last year in the lowest restricted areas - UK breaks, restaurants open but some restrictions, no large events like concerts. So same for some and better for others, like Manchester, than last year.

Next winter will be a lot better but cautious as a small blip in some increase in cases but not enough for a lockdown.

Then from next spring back to normal and overseas holidays more normal.

I also think the majority will quickly ‘forget’ this part and life will eventually go back to now it was in 2019

The pandemic will end, they always do. Hopefully sooner rather than later

Neither can I, which is why I avoid the Coronavirus topic and obvious threads for a reason. Clickbait titles don't help.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 03/02/2021 19:07

@PenCreed I see you graciously didn’t take the opportunity to pile in and mansplain to me
For context I was knackered after work, mistyped I of course meant NI
And no I do not need a synopsis about Ireland, given my heritage.

I'm a woman, so not mansplaining. Given the level of ignorance often displayed about Irish history on here, the context wasn't at all clear, but apologies for offending you.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 03/02/2021 20:26

I’m not offended in the least, it was just a bit unnecessarily fierce

PenCreed · 03/02/2021 20:28

It really wasn't meant to be, sorry.

Atalune · 03/02/2021 20:30

You know the book, The Road? Like that.

I feel hopeless.
