Been really wondering how these and various other characters fared in later life, having reread various box sets to soothe my nerves over the lockdown...

OP posts:
Ilovemaisie · 03/02/2021 19:39

Henry is the boy that Beezus was friends with.

LApprentiSorcier · 03/02/2021 19:39

And Ramona married Howie Kemp

Oh, no! Howie was far too unimaginative for Ramona. Plus the families were already intermarried via Aunt Bea and Uncle Hobart.

Beezus married the older one whose name I can't remember

Henry Huggins! I read the Henry books before the Ramona books - I think they were published first and Ramona was originally a spin-off but grew to be more popular.

Great thread! Loving all the Ramona theories. It's a life goal of mine to stand with one foot in Oregon and one foot in Washington. Wink

Now, for anyone who might be wondering what the Babysitters Club are up to now:

I loved all these books! Especially Judy Blume- I always wonder about Summer Sisters. I loved that. What would have happened to Caitlin and Vix. Did they reunite? Did Caitlin come back or did they find her body? What happened to their kids etc

Squirrel26 · 03/02/2021 19:44

April, May and June Cholly-Sawcutt grew up to be the Pullein-Thompson sisters and write books about ponies. Obviously.

Nooo! Weren't the Cholly-Sawcutt girls terrible at riding, despite Jill's efforts? Grin

Jinny probably has an Etsy shop.

NotCornflakes · 03/02/2021 19:45

And what about Anastasia Krupnik? I think she definitely became a professor in something.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 03/02/2021 19:50

@NotCornflakes

Oh yes, a professor in literature like her father. And an artist on the side like her mother. She has a big enough chest now that she can wear a T shirt with her name on it.
UselessYoke · 03/02/2021 19:53

Steven is a hobo living in a back alley and flashing his bum for pennies, at least I fucking hope so

Yes! So do I! Great theory 😆

Duvetstay · 03/02/2021 19:56

Am so pleased I found this thread! I didn't realise there were Jill sequels! Are they any good?

TopTabby · 03/02/2021 20:02

Grin Love the Sweet Valley updates!!
I'm afraid I always thought Ramona might steal Beezus' boyfriend with her attention seeking behaviour. Anyway, I hope Ramona's kids hate her Crockpot recipes & sneakily turn it off, I remember being SO impressed when Ramona did that!

BrownFootStool · 03/02/2021 20:22

Jinny and Shanti! Loved that and it got pretty deep.

Remember Ramona and the dawnzer lee light? That only made sense ot me years later when I knew the words to the US national anthem.

Jesus, Beezus!

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 03/02/2021 20:35

Ha! This reminds me that DSis and I, whilst loving the Jill books, also used to make up random book titles involving her. So for example "Jill and her Pony go
Hang-gliding in Tibet", "Jill and her Pony win Eurovision".

DSis was a great artist and used to do accompanying cover illustrations. Smile

Sheleg · 03/02/2021 20:42

@GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom this made me roar! 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 03/02/2021 20:48

I loved the Ramona books. I bought them all again as an adult!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/02/2021 20:51

Hang on. Ramona was published in the 50's?!! I thought it was set in the 80's!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/02/2021 20:53

@AnjouPear

Ramona Quimby! I always think about her whenever I crack an egg (which I did today). There's a bit in one of the books where she cracks an egg on her head thinking it's hard boiled (and it isn't).
Yes me too!
Speedyspunker · 03/02/2021 20:53

Loved Jill. I still long to hear more about Drina the ballerina...

LApprentiSorcier · 03/02/2021 20:54

The first Ramona novel was published in the 50s, Toddler but Beverley Cleary went on writing them for another 30 years at least!

LApprentiSorcier · 03/02/2021 20:57

Jesus, Beezus!

Ha, yes, me neither. When Beezus twigs what Ramona's talking about, she says 'The Star Spangled Banner' which wasn't a name I'd heard. If she'd said 'the national anthem' the penny might have dropped sooner, but the joke was lost on me for many years.
MaryLennoxsScowl · 03/02/2021 20:59

There is a SVH sequel in which Liz and Jess are estranged because Jess ran off with Todd and married him, but it was so shit I forgot all the details immediately. I think that Liz spent years trying but failing to get a book published and now runs very overpriced seminars teaching writers how to do kindle self-publishing. Jess married a super-rich software developer but then dumped him for a handsome but feckless musician, who lives off her money. Liz is madly jealous of Jess’s money but claims to only care about Jess’s wellbeing in advising her to get rid of the cocklodging muso. Ned had a heart attack face-down in a rent boy aged 57, and Alice is a drunk who keeps falling down her split-level house and calling Liz for help - no point calling Jess.

NotCornflakes · 03/02/2021 21:30

@BrownFootStool I thought of the dawnzer lee light when I heard Lady Gaga sing the national anthem at Biden's inauguration! Grin

alltoomuchrightnow · 03/02/2021 21:42

ha what, I thought they were 80s too...mainly because I read them then, I guess...

Ilovemaisie · 03/02/2021 21:43

Ramona first appeared in 1950 (in the first Henry Huggins book) and last book published was 1999. 49 years !!

alltoomuchrightnow · 03/02/2021 21:43

haha I'd forgotten about 'Susan hair'.
What about skiddy eyed owls?!

Ilovemaisie · 03/02/2021 21:44

Ramona fans - her creator Beverly Cleary is still going. She will be 105 in April.
