To think at 25 you look good in anything

Dd has just cleared out a lot of her clothing and said she feels she’s too old to be wearing a lot of it. Aibu to think at 25 you can wear whatever you want? It’s the age where I was very adventurous about what I wore.

Yes! I wish I realised it at the time thought I was fat. I was a size 10/12

peanutbuttermilkshake · 02/02/2021 14:02

DD23 is like this, she made a comment that she should probably stop living in crop tops and baggy jeans now she’s not a student anymore. I said don’t you dare! Grin

LegendDairy · 02/02/2021 14:07

Anyone at any age can wear whatever they want.

JorisBonson · 02/02/2021 14:09

I look at pictures of me aged 25 and cringe. I really could not get away with what I thought I could!

DaylightSunlight · 02/02/2021 14:18

Don't think it's about age but bodyshape, style of clothes and fit. At any age, you will look great in anything that fits your bodyshape, colour, etc and at any age, you'll look terrible in the opposite.

user2021 · 02/02/2021 14:19

Oh god yes at 25 I threw any old rag on and looked good.

Fast forward, early 30s now and 2 babies in 2 years. I still look good i think, but it takes effort now.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 02/02/2021 14:23

I would say you are more sophisticated by 25 so you might have outgrown certain styles even though they still fit and don’t look awful.

SushiSoozie · 02/02/2021 14:25

Some people might look good at anything at 25. Many won't.

LethbridgeStewart · 02/02/2021 14:26

I'm almost 25 and there's so much that doesn't look good on me. I'm overweight and bottom heavy. So, no, I don't agree.

Hardbackwriter · 02/02/2021 14:26

I think you'll look good to a middle-aged person in anything at 25, but to your peers - who see you as normal, not wonderfully youthful - you won't, and most 25 year olds care more about what their peers think than they do about their parents and their parents' friends thinking they look lovely!

1990shopefulftm · 02/02/2021 14:27

I m 25 but have a horrendous mum tum so not much I can get away with wearing at the moment

Faith50 · 02/02/2021 15:09

Yes, provided you are a healthy weight.

Ibeliveinyou · 02/02/2021 18:47

Yes definitely you can look lovely at any age. I’m just sad she feels like this at her age.

FluffyBlueJumper · 02/02/2021 18:48

I was 16 stone at 25. I most definitely did not look lovely in anything.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 02/02/2021 18:53

If she still has the same figure as she did at 18, she may well look just as good in the same clothes, but maybe they are things she associates with her younger self and now feels they aren't right for her at 25 (not that no 25 yo should wear them).

Ibeliveinyou · 02/02/2021 19:03

She was a size six at 18 she’s now an size 8 so maybe she does feel her figure has changed a lot.

I don't think it's necessarily about her body at all.

I had similar big clear out in my mid 20s of clothes in my wardrobe that didn't suit anymore - not because they didn't fit or looked bad, but because they were the style of a teenager and a student and didn't match the image I wanted to present of myself anymore.

Admittedly lockdown may have confused matters a little - but if for example she wears more mature clothes in the office she may not want her wardrobe space clogged up by loads of athleisure attire she only wears on weekends.
Even if it isn't a work thing, there are certain styles of clothing that I wouldn't think anything of seeing on a 20 year old but on somebody moving through their mid/late 20s it would mark them out as following trends rather than having a personal style in a way that might seem fashion obsessed and (possibly unfairly, but I would be thinking it) a little immature.

peak2021 · 02/02/2021 19:33

If you saw some of the women and men in their mid twenties where I live you would disagree. Though the same could be said about people from a wide range of ages in the UK. French and Italian people have style, in the UK it is rare.
