If you have one?
I am desperately seeking motivation! Currently studying at home so I have a lot of spare time but seem to spend it procrastinating.
The laundry is piling up and I need to pull my finger out 😳

The organised mum method. Best few quid I ever spent buying that app, use it daily and have done for about a year now

sunflowersandbuttercups · 31/01/2021 21:58

Up, dressed, make bed and open windows/blinds upstairs. Once a week wash bedding.
Feed the cats, empty the litter trays.
Vacuum.
Laundry if any needs doing or if the dryer needs emptying.
Wash breakfast dishes and sweep floors before going to work.

Home from work - shower and clean the bathroom (spray and wipe) and clean toilet if necessary. Wash towels once a week.
Feed cats and dog and sort litter trays if necessary. Wash bowls.

Before bed, all dishes are washed and put away, living room tidied (blankets etc. folded and rubbish in bin) and some days I vacuum again if the dog has been particularly wet or muddy.

All in all it takes me about 30-40 minutes each day - but we have three cats and a dog so the vacuuming etc. is necessary to prevent build-up.

Daily??? 😂

KatyClaire · 31/01/2021 22:18

Daily:

  • Wipe kitchen surfaces (Multiple times per day tbh)

  • Empty bins

Every couple of days:

  • Wash kitchen floor
  • Wipe over bathrooms
  • Hoover downstairs and upstairs
  • Empty, clean and refill litter trays
  • Ironing

Once a week:

  • Deep clean kitchen
  • Deep clean bathrooms
  • Hoover and dust bedrooms
  • Change bedsheets
  • Dust and hoover sitting room and dining room
  • Dust, clean and hoover the baby’s room
LunaHeather · 31/01/2021 22:21

This is making me feel really lazy

I got the TOMM book but actually I found the total time spent doesn't change and it's easier to just have dishes in the sink. I hate feeling "on the go" all the time.

LunaHeather · 31/01/2021 22:23

Katy does deep clean just mean full clean or are you including things like scrubbing grout in that?

firstimemamma · 31/01/2021 22:28

Daily:
Make bed & open curtains and windows
Clean kitchen sink
Laundry
Wipe kitchen surfaces / high chair as needed
Wash up 3 times a day
Tidy up toys
Evening which kitchen spray mop
Evening clear draining board

There's stuff I do as and when (e.g ironing) and stuff I do once a week on set days (e.g bedsheet change, clean bathroom).

On Sunday I do a job from the 'rotation list' stuff like clean out fridge, sort out ds' toys etc.

Once a month I spend 2 hours doing a full house clean which includes stuff like skirting boards and windows.

Annual spring clean too.

It sounds like I've got my shit together but I really haven't. All it takes is my toddler to have a bad night and I really just do the bare minimum. This week I did hardly any of my weekly tasks and it was more just about staying afloat.

Coasterfan · 31/01/2021 22:31

😂😂😂😂 I stick some washing on and take it out later. I wash up after breakfast and then after lunch and wipe the sides in the kitchen. I work 9am until 2am with 5 hours home school somewhere in there too.. DH does the cleaning at the weekend and cooks and washes up every night.

PenfoldPenny · 31/01/2021 22:33

I just do what needs doing as it needs doing.

OwlinaTree · 31/01/2021 22:34

You do need a routine I find. I have worked out what days to do laundry, change sheets etc. Set day for shopping, wash up before going to bed and wipe kitchen down, tidy lounge etc. Always take something upstairs that needs putting away when going up.

Train your family to put dishes in or on top of dishwasher, coats/shoes/bags in a set place etc. Depends on their ages what they can do.

Also just chill a bit, it's just housework. As long the place looks reasonable and is fairly clean and tidy and you've all got things to wear, it's fine. They don't give out medals for living in a show home.

Malin52 · 31/01/2021 22:36

Always wondered. What is a 'deep clean'?!

justanotherremainer · 31/01/2021 22:41

My what?

dementedma · 31/01/2021 22:42

Daily? God, daily i do what it takes to keep us just above total filth. Do dishes, wipe kitchen surfaces, wash cat bowls. Recycling. Brush kitchen floor.

Weekly: hoover everywhere. Clean bathroom. Empty bins.

Anything else: whenever I have time.

sortmylifeoutplease · 31/01/2021 22:44

Lately, pick some toys up. Throw paper away. Mop bits of some of the rooms. Pick stuff up and try to keep it picked up so I can clean a little - give up. Try to unload dishwasher whilst holding baby. Try again. Homeschool. Try again. Snacks. Try again. Set zoom call up. Try again. Get something set up on portal for other DC. Try again. Change nappy. Try again. Feel like I've had a win if unload half a dishwasher before 830pm. Major win if loaded it up again too. Major win if get a wash on in day too. So, not very much at all really, but would like to or at least like to a bit. Cannot get more bare minimum than this. However, I'm also cleaning up messes all day, not that it looks like it!

Judithand · 31/01/2021 22:46

I don’t do deep cleans as I clean lightly every day.

In the morning I tidy room by room upstairs before going downstairs. Make beds, open windows, bleach bathroom, tidy toys away.
I bring the laundry basket & anything that belongs downstairs with me.
I put a wash on each morning & empty the basket. I Hoover & dust lightly & disinfect kitchen counters & tidy everything into its place or drawers.

Then I bring the kids downstairs & all hell breaks loose Grin

After each meal I tidy straight away, into dishwasher or bins. As soon as a wash ends I sort it out. When clothes are dried I iron & put into their wardrobe straight away.

Each evening at kids bedtime I Hoover, tidy, put away toys, wash kitchen floors.

Before bed I make sure everything is put away back in it’s place.

I have obsessive tendencies towards cleaning though so I don’t recommend my life. I cannot relax until the house is clean - every room. I won’t sit down until it is finished in the morning, then at kids nap time and their bedtime. I don’t like anything at all on my kitchen counters. There is no clutter in my house it all has a purpose & place or it is binned.

KatyClaire · 31/01/2021 22:48

@LunaHeather no, I only scrub the grout when it looks like it needs it! I just mean a more thorough clean of everything (including tiled walls, cabinet shelves etc) and some extra touches that I only bother with once a week, like using my electronic squeegee on the glass doors, steam mopping the floors etc.

StanfordPines · 31/01/2021 22:48

Daily? Dishes and the like yes, but nothing more.

AliceMcK · 31/01/2021 22:49

One job a day.

I struggle with health issues, I use to try doing everything at once and then get upset when I couldn’t do the things I use to be able to do, so now I pick one job a day to nail then anything else i get done is a bonus. Sone one day may be laundry, another getting the kids bedrooms in order etc... I also have 3 young kids to contend with, but if I stick to this routine I actually get things done which I wouldn’t if I was trying to do everything at once.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2021 22:50

I'm supposed to do it daily? Shock Eek.

LunaHeather · 31/01/2021 23:09

Oh, yes, that is a deep clean. I used to own a steam mop but probably used it once every two months. The bathroom gets an ordinary mop twice a week though.

Cleaning the shower screen maybe once a month but I squegee it as soon as I finish showering.

I seem to spend my whole life doing laundry but I don't own anything that needs ironing. I do still own an iron though.

I don't have a routine but even before you know what I was a bit obsessive about hygiene. So touch points etc are always clean. My main problem is clutter in a small space. I probably need to dust more because of the clutter, but it's so boring. I like the clutter so can't get rid. I like having lots of photos and books etc around.

Washing up, I can't face donning an apron and rubber gloves three times a day, so do it at the end.

AlwaysLatte · 31/01/2021 23:10

I sort of follow the OM method in my own way - I made a weekly timetable with 2 rooms each day which get dusted hoovered, tidied and decluttered, bedding once a week also included on those bedroom days. Quick clean in the bathrooms each day as well. Kitchen: wipe down surfaces, clean sink, tidy etc daily in between its weekly bigger clean.
Laundry - each morning I take the laundry bags from each bathroom, empty them into the sorter trolley in the laundry, put on two loads a day (whichever sections of the trolley are most full get done). I like this method because instead of seeing a whole house that needs doing I know it will get done regularly and I can just focus on those days' rooms.

WaterBottle123 · 31/01/2021 23:10

Organised mum method sounds quite good but I refuse to support any product with such a misogynistic title......pity, could do with something!

JaneNorman · 31/01/2021 23:15

I hate to brake this to some of you but opening the curtains isn’t cleaning.

That’s the cleaning equivalent of adding stuff to your to do list that you’ve already done.

Shmithecat2 · 31/01/2021 23:29

Morning;

Vacuum all through downstairs (all hard floor).
Empty dishwasher (if I didn't do it before bed).
Feed cats, scoop litter trays.
Wipe down kitchen sides (this is done multiple times a day because cats).
Make beds.

Afternoon/evening

Vacuum (I vacuum a lot, because of said cats - 6 of them).
Put on washing/sort drying/put clothes away.
Stack dishwasher after dinner.

Before bed;

Vacuum.
Tidy sitting room (fluff cushions, toys away, throws folded etc).
Put some bleach in downstairs toilet.
Clean bathroom sink (after washing my face and cleaning my teeth).
Clean bath.
Put bleach in upstairs toilet.

Once or twice a week;

Vacuum ceilings (lots of beams, bloody cobwebs).
Mop kitchen floor.
Vacuum upstairs.
Dust/polish downstairs/upstairs.
Clean inside windows, wipe down window sills.

Once every couple of weeks;

Pull out furniture to clean skirting boards.

It feels a little never ending, but I don't work, so it's not difficult to maintain. We live in the middle of a farm, in an old house, so it needs keeping on top of. I can't relax if it isn't all done. Although it's a bit more challenging at the moment as the house is never empty (ds home from school and my Ddad staying with me).
