If you have one?
I am desperately seeking motivation! Currently studying at home so I have a lot of spare time but seem to spend it procrastinating.
The laundry is piling up and I need to pull my finger out 😳

Oh, the cats have a 'room' (an old pantry), with their litter trays at one end, food and water fountain at the other. That gets vacuumed twice a day and then once a week, everything gets emptied/cleaned/refilled and the floor washed.

Notenoughchocolateomg · 31/01/2021 23:36

I do washing pretty much daily. I fold and put away the same day. I hoover upstairs weekly, sometimes twice. I wash up 2-4 times a day, always wash up straight after even meal as I hate coming down to dirty pots. Clean kitchen sides daily, multiple times really. Hoover living room/kitchen/dining room every few days id say. Upstairs weekly though wish it was more. Clean sheets weekly. Bathroom, I wipes down loo, sink, sil every few days, shower is about once a week or so. Dusting is up to once a week. Not perfect, but not gross. Mop floors weekly (at least once) downstairs too.

Graciebobcat · 31/01/2021 23:41

Daily?

On a Saturday I empty the bins upstairs, clean the bathrooms, hoover upstairs and the stairs (robot vac does downstairs daily, occasionally I go over it with hoover) clean the kitchen and mop the floors. Er, that's it. DM cleans the surfaces in the living room.

Montyman · 31/01/2021 23:45

I’m only trying to get back into a proper routine again, wfh, homeschooling has screwed me right over. I used to use the organised mum method and will go back to it - the one thing I have taken from it is; if you’re cleaning your living room, for example, you do it all I.e. give the skirting a dust and clean the windows. It takes longer than the 30 mins allocated the majority of the time but it avoids the need for a weekly ‘deep’ clean.

The lady who promotes the method seems absolutely lovely and is very realistic - I’ve taken the pieces that work for me from the method and worked them into my routine and it works most of the time. I also love the way each day is a different focus on a different room I.e. living room on Tuesday or whatever so I can walk through a messy room without freaking out because I know it’s on the list for some day during the week.

It’s less that I’ve adapted to the whole routine, more that I’ve adapted the method to suit me.

AlohaMolly · 31/01/2021 23:55

I have an unofficial routine but we are a two up two down plus bathroom. I work one day a week at the moment during the pandemic and have DS4 at home. DP works 5:6 days a week.

I ‘do’ a room a day Monday to Thursday and I do a semi deep clean. That means tidy round, clean all surfaces including doors, windows, skirting boards and hoover/mop. I do laundry as and when and seem to do endless loads of dishwasher and wiping surfaces in the kitchen.

LunaHeather · 31/01/2021 23:58

Monty "It takes longer than the 30 mins allocated the majority of the time but it avoids the need for a weekly ‘deep’ clean. "

It made me decide a weekly clean was less annoying, somehow getting the impetus for a weekly blitz is easier.

This is a bit mean but I try and do my phone calls, the duty ones, at the same time as tasks that can be done quietly. Mum heard me doing chores on the phone once and was quite pissed off! We speak every day but she was still annoyed.

Soboredofcorona · 31/01/2021 23:58

I put the dishwasher on when it needs it......... put laundry on if needed and dry........ put robot hoover on if we’re going out....... wipe kitchen sides..........

Check how many days are left until the cleaner comes..........

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/02/2021 00:03

Really a weekly routine here with some stuff every day:

Kitchen surfaces daily
Kitchen floor swept daily (very fluffy cat)
Bathroom cleaned Tuesday/Friday/Sunday
Hoovering and mopping once a week
Bed stripped every Saturday
Laundry - always towels on a Wednesday, bedlinen every Saturday, wool wash once a week, probably two other washes. I do iron, and tend to just do bits as I go along
Dusting/polishing - should be weekly but is often fortnightly
Dishwasher as and when, pans washed straight after dinner

Tasks are split between me and DP - he also does buns/recycling as and when needed

Squirrelblanket · 01/02/2021 00:06

On a daily basis it would just be emptying the dishwasher, cleaning kitchen surfaces and filling the dishwasher back up as we go along through the day. After dinner, the kitchen gets a final wipe down and dishwasher put on. Before we go to bed the living room is given a quick tidy and sofa cushions plumped. That's the only daily stuff.

We do three loads of washing a week. Bed and towel change and bathroom cleaned every Friday.

Everything else is done as and when needed.

LunaHeather · 01/02/2021 00:22

Judy "Tasks are split between me and DP - he also does buns"

Sorry, this made me lol

Like he does squats during housework to ensure buns of steel Grin

Havlerr · 01/02/2021 00:39

Nothing like reading a MN thread to make you feel like a lazy shit Blush I manage to make the bed, wash dishes, feed/clean out the rabbits and do one load of laundry every day. Between DH and I we try to do this weekly: dusting surfaces, clean kitchen, clean bathroom and hoover/mop the whole house. Cleaning skirting boards, grout etc has probably never been done before. We don’t have MN standards Grin

Malin52 · 01/02/2021 04:32

We are lucky if the toilet get flushed on a daily basis! We are on tank water in the height of a hot summer so that's my excuse.

Dishwasher on once a day
Kitchen surface wipe down after cooking
Laundry twice a week (one lights one darks)

Bathroom sink cleaned once a week
Tiles etc when they start going orange
Hoover maybe every two weeks

I don't think I've emptied and cleaned a kitchen cupboard in 4 years. We can go for weeks without doing anything I would class as 'cleaning'

Things get put away after they've been used

I suspect this makes us extremely grubby by MN standards but we all remain alive, the house appears clean and tidy, smells nice and we live a nice stress free life! I grew up with a housecleaning obsessed mother who was always hovering with a duster or demanding a crumb was banished from a table and it was an unpleasant way of living. Maybe that's why it's at the bottom of list of things I find important or necessary.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/02/2021 09:23

luna whoops - in fairness he is much more likely to bake than I am, so....

jetadore · 01/02/2021 09:32

Daily cleaning what? Dishes and laundry (if required) get done daily, that's it.

LakieLady · 01/02/2021 09:33

Daily? Monthly more like!

I don't know if things like putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher or wiping the worktop (and hob, if it needs it) after cooking count as cleaning. Once a week or so I leave bleach soaking in the kitchen sinks overnight so they clean themselves, the same with the lav, but twice a week. I hoover the kitchen and living room every few days, and wipe down the bath/shower/basin after every use (very hard water = instant limescale if I don't).

But now there's only me, it doesn't seem to need as much cleaning. DP must have been a dirty bugger! Grin

Cornetttttto · 01/02/2021 09:41

What is this obsession with deep cleaning? Unless you've smeared poo all over your bathroom floor, walls etc etc, it really isn't going to warrant such OTT upkeep. Wipe toilet down with vinegar, use flannel from face washing to damp dust any surfaces. Sorted. Genuinely. Bleach if the OH has been particularly vile in the toilet. It's not laziness, it's completely sensible. I loathe how cleaning has become almost fetishised as an 'activity' that requires a million chemical filled products.

LakieLady · 01/02/2021 09:45

*Once every couple of weeks;

Pull out furniture to clean skirting boards*

Shock

That's an annual event in this house, and I have a big oak trunk that's so heavy and difficult to move, I don't think it's been moved since the living room was last decorated about 15 years ago.

I have a long, thin fluffy duster on a stick that I poke down the back and side of it once a month or so, and the amount of crap that collects is awesome. I really ought to move the stereo off the top and see what the hell is inside the thing.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 01/02/2021 09:47

Oh dear I am such a slattern.

80sMum · 01/02/2021 10:02

I use an app called Tody - Smarter Cleaning, which helps me to stay organised.

It's highly customisable and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who, like me, finds it so much easier to manage things when I have a schedule or timetable to follow.

You can have more than one person connected to the same login, so both you and your partner/housemate can update the schedule each time a particular task is done.

It's very intuitive and simple to use.

😂. Can't leave it that long. The house seems to invite cobwebs and dust, it drives me potty. I had wooden floors, so nowhere for dust bunnies to hide, and its fairly easy to moves things.
skybluepinks · 01/02/2021 10:07

Get up, get washed, strip the beds as and when needed, wash up anything in the kitchen that needs washing, sort the bins out as and when needed. Clear the occasional table in the lounge, move anything off the sofas that shouldn't be there/is in the way and get on with my day.

The rest is done as and when.

blueleonburger · 01/02/2021 10:07

Daily? 😂😂😂 I spit my coffee out. We just generally clean up here and there when it looks a bit untidy. No schedule. We have a cleaner that comes fortnightly.

DailyMailHater · 01/02/2021 10:10

Morning:
Beds made
Breakfast dishes washed and out away
Kitchen sides wiped down
Bathroom wiped down following everyone’s showers

After work (I get home at 3pm)
Vacuum
Put a load of washing on
General tidy if needed
Dust / polish if needed

Before bed
All dishes washed and put away
Kitchen wiped down
Sort clean washing and put in rooms
Kids are asked to make sure their bedroom floors are clear of clothes / toys before bed.

Weekends
deep clean the kitchen and bathroom
Change beds
Try and do more than 1 load of washing as lots of sports kit.

Ragwort · 01/02/2021 10:13

I'm with others in that I do as little as possible - thankfully no children or pets at home Grin.

Load of washing every couple of days, put dishwasher on, wash saucepans, clean toilets most days - hoover once a week fortnight. Bit of ironing in front of tv sometimes, I don't count 'opening curtains' or making the bed as 'housework' but I do those tasks as well.

Spidey66 · 01/02/2021 10:13

People vacuum three times a day? Shock

I only have carpets in the bedrooms.....they get vacummed once a week, if that!
