If you have one?
I am desperately seeking motivation! Currently studying at home so I have a lot of spare time but seem to spend it procrastinating.
The laundry is piling up and I need to pull my finger out 😳

Get up early and showered! My first point of call is putting things straightest and tidy. Sometimes dp goes to work really early and leaves things lying around - clothes, mugs, breakfast etc, any toys lying around etc that haven’t been out away before bed just so they can get pulled out again 🤣 Make the beds is a must, cannot stand unmade beds. I put a load of laundry on (at least one load a day here), get the kids clothes out for the day and get them dressed (not sure you have kids but this is just my routine).

I’m struggling to keep on top of everything as usual as kids are off but every day I vacuum and steam mop my floor, sort the laundry, wipe down kitchen sides, sink, tables and desks etc. I try and vacuum and steam mop every day though as above. I shove some bleach down the toilet. Also empty the bin most days even if it’s not full to minimise smells. Also empty waste paper bins!

Then I put more things straight! Usually over and over again!

I do try and keep on top of things as best as I can. I feel doing this means I don’t have to spend hours every day cleaning. I try not to leave a room empty handed and anything that needs putting away will be put away! I try and deep clean a couple times a week.

I find getting up early helps. I’m more motivated to clean in the morning. I try and clean bathroom 2-3 times a week. Bedding usually gets done weekly!

Being organised and tidy really helps me relax and calms my mind. If it’s a mess - I’m a mess!! Dp is the opposite and would live in clutter. I wish I was more relaxed like him though.

Just little jobs here and there makes a huge difference imo. Just tidying a desk or putting some laundry away. Or getting the vacuum out really motivates me 🤣

Lia, it sounds like you really enjoy cleaning.

This thread has actually encouraged me to get rid of the TOMM book.

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 01/02/2021 10:26

No schedule. If the laundry bin is getting full, I do a wash. If the kitchen floor looks dirty, I mop it. If there are dirty dishes on the side, I put them in the dishwasher. Obviously some of these things happen more quickly so are done daily whereas some take longer and are therefore done less often.

mogtheexcellent · 01/02/2021 10:26

This is mine

1, take glasses off so can't see the mess
2, erm...

Shmithecat2 · 01/02/2021 10:26

@Spidey66

People vacuum three times a day? Shock

I only have carpets in the bedrooms.....they get vacummed once a week, if that!

Sometimes more than that for me. Depends how messy cats/ds have been. I have a cordless though, hanging on the wall in the kitchen, so it's pretty easy to just whizz round when needed.
DarcyJack · 01/02/2021 10:31

Lucky enough to have a once a week cleaner. Other than that just do the beds, dishwasher, worktop, toilets and laundry really.

Jocasta2018 · 01/02/2021 10:34

I make my bed, put dirty clothes in the laundry basket & tidy up as I go along.
In the bathroom, I dry the wet shower & tiles with an old towel & wipe around the basin. Clean loo as & when.
Kitchen - I wipe over the surfaces after I've done the washing up. I brush up the floors if needed.
I live alone so it's only me making a mess. I'm not a domestic goddess, I'm happy with my tidiness/cleanliness standards & not embarrassed to have people over - the spare room & en-suite are clean & I never use the downstairs loo anyway.
I sort the place out once a fortnight - change sheets, towels, vacuum, mop & dust. Laundry also gets done then.
Life's too short to clean all the time!

Itsjustaride8w737 · 01/02/2021 10:35

Thank you all! I've never heard of The Organised Mum Method, will look into it.
Dp is tidy, it's mainly me that forgets about cups, washing etc 😳.
Dd is 12, does a household task each day, usually the dusting.
Our house is old and in need of decorating so myabe thats why it's always seems messy 🤔

I guess we wash the dishes daily, and any mess on the kitchen counter gets wiped up...that’s it though. We do all our housework at the weekend; hoover, dust, wipe down bathroom, clean cooker, and change bedding. We do a few loads of laundry per week, as and when required. Better things to do in life than housework!

WalkingMeAway · 01/02/2021 11:39

I do skirting boards/Hoover etc behind furniture once a week !
Honestly my house must be really dusty, there’s no way I could do it less frequently !

Same! I've bought an air purifier now, to help try and cut the dust down.

@Cdstjooyv

The organised mum method. Best few quid I ever spent buying that app, use it daily and have done for about a year now
Just downloaded. It's really good

I vacuum twice a day. We have three cats and a dog - I work outdoors as a dog walker (so come home covered in hair, mud, slobber etc.) and DH works as a plasterer so generally comes home covered in a fine layer of dust Grin

I'd rather do a quick vacuum twice a day than let it build up.

VestaTilley · 01/02/2021 22:35

My what?

In all seriousness though, no. DH and I check the wash basket and one of us will put on a wash if it needs doing/there’s space on the rack. We’ll clean the loo once a week, take out the bins and he’ll hoover every couple of days as we have DCats and a DS.

I might hoover once a week as I’m lazier. DH cleaned the bathroom last week. We wipe down the kitchen surfaces each day and load/empty the dishwasher once a day.

In ordinary times a cleaner comes once a fortnight (still paying her while she can’t come in lockdown) but we still do laundry, clean the loos, hoover and change bedding.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/02/2021 22:38

😱🤔😂

VestaTilley · 01/02/2021 22:39

@KatyClaire what’s a steam mop?!

Pinkmarsh · 01/02/2021 22:43

Up, empty dishwasher, load washing machine. Make beds, clean bathroom whilst I shower. Tidy lounge. Run the hoover round. Mop floors in kitchen and bathrooms. Takes 1-2 hours tops. After lunch i get the tea ready and walk the dogs. Twice a week I do an hour or two of ironing. After tea, I tidy the kitchen and load the dishwasher, hoover kitchen and Lounge If needed. Repeat every, single flipping day 🙄

freezingkalt · 02/02/2021 07:24

So you need to mop everyday?

Takes two hours tops?! Everyday? Thats the sum total of free time I have on a week day after I've arrived home from work and I sure ain't going to spend it mopping.

Daily mopping is nuts unless there are daily deposits of body fluids, food or mud. Give yourself a break and sack that off to once a week (even that would be super clean in our house!) and do something nice with that two hours.
