Inspired by another thread of places you have no desire to visit and a poster mentioned New York as having loads of rats, where have you travelled to that had loads of rodents? Except squirrels of course, they are exempted haha. And yes of course I know they are everywhere, but it's rare you see any day to day in the UK. I think! I am so so scared of them! That rat temple in India is the stuff of my nightmares.

One outside my front door once just sat there Envy couldn’t leave the house for hours!

RMRM · 31/01/2021 12:56

There's a service station in Oxford somewhere (can't quite remember where we were), where the car park was absolutely teeming with them. I've never seen anything like it. Shock

oOmuffin · 31/01/2021 12:58

Agree with New York, I went to put something in a rubbish bin, and was greeted by about 7 rats having their lunch. They simultaneously stopped what they were doing and stared up at me

Lonelycrab · 31/01/2021 12:59

Motorway services always a good bet. Also anywhere with a drive thru. People park up and chuck their crap out the window....

Oldraver · 31/01/2021 13:01

Our local Sainsburys had a problem with them for a while. If you parked in a parent space you would always see one

chipsandpeas · 31/01/2021 13:02

@Chihuahuacat

Paris - loads in the gardens in front of the Eiffel Tower where people sit and have picnics...
snap
Nandakanda · 31/01/2021 13:02

The merlion in Singapore. The little park around it was alive with them.

BilboBercow · 31/01/2021 13:03

Glasgow city centre has its fair share

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 31/01/2021 13:03

I love Bangkok, but the last time I went I couldn’t move for rats!!! Doesn’t put me off though.

Vietnam was fucking teaming with them!

Sheleg · 31/01/2021 13:04

Stanley Park in Liverpool is overrun with the feckers.

kindlingtwigs · 31/01/2021 13:05

Apart from on railways the only place I've seen rats was at Disney in Florida. I expect that the snakes soon ate them though.

JessicaPeach · 31/01/2021 13:05

Mumbai, I've seen rats there the size of small dogs! Saw one crossing the road once with lots of people who didn't bat an eye, it's tail was like a piece of rope!

I read somewhere that rats have had to spread into more residential areas since covid because they can't rely on the restaurant bins like that used to!

Sheleg · 31/01/2021 13:06

And Hackney. See below!

DenisetheMenace · 31/01/2021 13:07

Walk along the Thames at Kingston and you’ll see dozens running about foraging, day and night.

LindaEllen · 31/01/2021 13:07

Next door to us have a bin storage area next to them, which is always full of rats. The council won't do anything about it, and if the neighbours put poison/traps down a bloke from the flats moves them. They've burrowed under the garden of next door and ruined the flags. They're huge. I feel so sorry for them, while at the same time hoping they don't manage to burrow their way to ours!

DynamoKev · 31/01/2021 13:07

Used to loads of rats in tube stations

Tiquismiquis · 31/01/2021 13:08

Sheleg That is horrific!

Lonelycrab · 31/01/2021 13:10

I think with that photo it’s a bit of a trick with the perspective. It looks about 3 foot long that bloody thing!Shock

SomethingAboutNothing · 31/01/2021 13:12

I saw one in New York that was the size of a cat. Just strolling along the curb in broad daylight minding it's own business Envy

Screwcorona · 31/01/2021 13:12

Theres lots here in newquay. Apart from business and second home owners a huge amount of people here are very poor, or at least low income and barely scraping by, dont get provided with bins by council so rubbish goes in cheap shittyblack bags every week
Seagulls tear them to pieces then the rats feast on the trash all over the streets.

Overcrowding in shared houses, also due to poverty and huge rent costs, contributes to this. Before I had my son me and husband lived in a street of shared houses and were all overrun with rats.

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/01/2021 13:14

@2021hwg

Several people have mentioned Berlin to me. Rats everywhere apparently
I've been to Berlin and didn't see any although they could well have been there out of sight.
flatpack1 · 31/01/2021 13:14

@LBunz

My local Tesco car park is absolutely teaming with them.
Mine too.
Keratinsmooth · 31/01/2021 13:15

Chester and Surrey are the places I have encountered a lot. Near canals and take aways.

Wilsonwilson · 31/01/2021 13:15

I used to work at McDonald's and there were many, once saw one step on a piece of cucumber to get a dropped chip Grin de me laugh.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 31/01/2021 13:16

Berlin was full of wasps last time I went. Never seen so many wasps in my life.
