If you do, where do you live? We want to uproot and start new somewhere as we’ve had enough of Cornwall. I love big cities and my partner loves the beach so trying to find somewhere that has both!

Sorry not really an aibu but wanted a big range of answers so we can explore properties.

Op well good for you but that’s not my experience at all. I've owned my house in Cornwall since 1992, and even back then, it was never racist or classist. Dreckly goes with the territory living here, but I'd rather give the work and money to someone local than a larger firm from elsewhere.

If you live down county, then try the Devon/Cornwall borders; Saltash, the Tamar Valley etc.

davidsSchitts Not current? Old fashioned views, an undercurrent of misogyny/homophobia/racism possibly. Yet Brussels is EU central..how can you say such a thing about the Blessed Commission and all its satellites?

I think wherever you go, you will find racism, homophobia and misogyny; nowhere is exempt from those.

Lots and lots of Swansea poster!

£400k will get you a lovely house in Swansea op.

Houses are more expensive in the West of Swansea, nearer Mumbles and the Gower...but the comps are also better and you're nearer the beaches.

Personally I'd be looking in Bishopston Comp catchment, any of the Primaries that feed into it are equally good ime.

Durham, 20 minutes from Newcastle, gorgeous old style city of Durham too (drinks on the riverside when allowed passes a lovely summers afternoon away), close to A1. 15 minutes to the beach, a little further and you can visit some lovely seaside towns.
Seaham is very up and coming about 20 minutes from Newcastle, Roker, Whitley Bay all lovely seaside towns. So much house for your money too. Deans to walk in, Beamish museum, art galleries in Newcastle and just 30 minutes on a train to York.

TronaldDrump · 31/01/2021 15:41

Can also recommend Gosforth and Jesmond near Newcastle. 5 minutes from city, about 15 from beach. "Nice" areas, more expensive but really nice. Good walks, Jesmond Dean is lovely.

SpeckledyHen · 31/01/2021 15:43

Newcastle all day long , and I’m in the South East . The city and area has everything in my view . Best accent ever!

TheKeatingFive · 31/01/2021 15:43

Probably not very helpful for the OP, but Dublin.

Easy access to the mountains too.

Serafinaaa · 31/01/2021 15:44

My first thought was Barcelona 😂

Beautiful properties and parks . I’d love to live there.
Emmie2021 · 31/01/2021 15:45

Dartmoor !

Near Exeter and both Devon coasts

Dentistlakes · 31/01/2021 16:02

Another vote for Swansea! I don’t live there, but my family is from there and I go any chance I get. Many fabulous beaches, lovely parks, good schools and most importantly of all, lovely people. If I had the chance I would move in a shot.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 31/01/2021 16:04

North Berwick in East Lothian or Portobello in Edinburgh. Chilly though!

Yuddiesorno · 31/01/2021 16:05

Glad it's not just me @thegcatsmother - I find Cornwall to be one of the least "classist" (if that's even a thing!) places. We mix with people from all walks of life and no one really cares what car you drive or what school your kids go to.

Redburnett · 31/01/2021 16:08

It depends on what you mean by near but North Wales, near Chester and Liverpool. Southport near Liverpool. Preston near Lytham/Fylde Dunes and near Manchester.

thegcatsmother · 31/01/2021 16:10

Exactly Yuddiesorno. That's why I like it so much; there's not the element of competition that there is elsewhere.

Jumpintothefire · 31/01/2021 16:13

I live near Southsea in a less expensive part of Portsmouth. Not from here and have lived other places apart from my hometown.Have found Southsea not a very friendly place. People from here , in my experience tend to value if you come from the area and have a huge extended family who all went to school with your family members. Personally ,I love Southampton or Wallasey near Liverpool, parts of West Coast of Scotland and Portobello. Much friendlier . Some parts of the North East coast are gorgeous and some of the friendliest people I've ever met . 🥰 Also I have found Pompey as a whole to be really polluted and (I'm sure I will get jip here😂) quite dirty - see that thing over there ,it's a bin ! Use it .

Christmasfairy2020 · 31/01/2021 16:16

I'll stay in Cornwall City life isn't that good. Dorset?

Sheleg · 31/01/2021 16:18

Liverpool? Lovely vibrant city, and plenty of beaches close by.

Friedbanana · 31/01/2021 16:18

Yes! North east :) We both work in Newcastle and get metro in pre-covid but we live on the coast (right next door to Tynemouth (£££) but we live in North Shields where property is way more affordable and there’re some really nice quiet period streets and a good park) Cullercoats is also gorgeous, again next to Tynemouth but also affordable, lots of nice cafes around! I don’t think I ever want to move, I walk to the beach from our house with my dog each day and feel v lucky :)

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 31/01/2021 16:19

Can l ask what you don't like about Cornwall? And whereabouts do you live there? I know it is a bit bleak at this time of year but always thought living there would be lovely.

Lastfreakinglegs · 31/01/2021 16:19

Mumbles Swansea

NoWordForFluffy · 31/01/2021 16:21

@XiCi

Yes, great beach less than 10 miles from Liverpool. Love it.
We're just up the coast from you. I think it's 15 miles as the crow flies to here!
MiniDoofa · 31/01/2021 16:23

The Wirral is a lovely part of the world! Lots of beaches plus close to both Liverpool and Chester with great rail links. I grew up in Hoylake and would def move to the area if returning to UK. Good schools too
Good luck OP

ShutUpAlex · 31/01/2021 16:25

I live in the Fowey area.

FAQs · 31/01/2021 16:29

@ShutUpAlex he might have Dysprosody! I'm really embarrassing but can't help it, I can phone someone from Yorkshire and by the end of the call sound as though I'm born and bred there, I can then call someone from Liverpool and do the same thing, the estate agent when I sold my house had a stutter and guess what, I did the same, my daughter was mortified!

Reallyhadenough · 31/01/2021 16:29

I would love either Newcastle or Aberdeen, both lovely cities with lovely beaches near by.
