Neighbour and goat AIBU?

Help please! AIBU?????

We have neighbours who are perfectly fine normally. They moved here before covid so early 2020 I met them a few times then, all seemed fine. They were nice to my husband, they incited us for coffee but we Haven’t been because of covid.

About six months ago, they appeared to purchase a goat. At least we assume they did as it suddenly appeared in their garden. After a shot while, they obviously got another as there were two. They seem to be kept in the back garden, no pen or anything, they just roam the garden.

This hasn’t been a big problem until now. We are being woken up often before 7am by the noose these animals make, additionally the neighbours garden is becoming a mess. We are potentially thinking about the possibility of moving and we do not want there to be any issues, I think this would put off perspective buyers.

We haven’t approached the neighbours yet, because we haven’t seen them for a while and they refused to join the street whatsapp. I want them to get rid of these goats but I’m really not sure what to do!

Are they tenants or owners?

If tenants simply get in touch with the owners.

Blackdog19 · 31/01/2021 09:27

@SirVixofVixHall don’t worry I won’t be getting one for my townie garden! They were just always my favourite animal at the petting zoo.

BakedTattie · 31/01/2021 09:27

I want a goat

lockeddownandcrazy · 31/01/2021 09:32

I'm glad I dont live next door to you OP. 'It brings the whole neighbourhood down' and their garden is such a mess.......snobbery or what!

Unless they are breaking a law not much you can do, even a covenant someone has to actively enforce it......oh and of course you will have to declare a dispute with your neighbours if you choose to sell

MoonlightFlitwick · 31/01/2021 09:35

I would love to move next door to goats

She's thinking of selling her house though... so many buyers are going to be put off by an unkempt, goat-filled garden next door. I would.

I wish my neighbours had goats!

Much more interesting than a yappy Jack Russell Grin

Roselilly36 · 31/01/2021 09:41

I love goats, but I wouldn’t be keen to have one as a neighbour. I know our deeds say we can’t keep swine, I will have a look and see if goats are mentioned!

Labobo · 31/01/2021 09:41

Goats next door would be a massive selling point for me. I love them. Almost bought a house in an area I hated as it came with a garden tortoise.

But if you object, there is usually a bye-law against keeping livestock in suburban gardens. It was certainly a freehold restriction when we bought our house. If you are in the countryside, you might need to find out whether it's OK or not.

Illegal noose making goats sound like pretty intimidating neighbours tbf! Grin

It does sound as if your neighbours have cast themselves into the role of the Goodes and you are the Leadbetters here. Showing my age.

Hoppinggreen · 31/01/2021 09:49

What sort of house is it? Is it an ordinary suburban semi/terrace/detached or is it rural?
I love goats but wouldn’t fancy them next door, plus they probably aren’t allowed. We can’t keep livestock here, although one near neighbour does have chickens

Goats are lovely. I knew someone who had two, they were real characters. They used to go into a pen with a gate and a roof at night though, do your neighbours not have one?

ImsorryWilson · 31/01/2021 09:53

That’s so sweet.

Love the powers of deduction comment.

OP do you think you worry about it more because of the problems?

ImsorryWilson · 31/01/2021 09:53

...past problems

TheQueef · 31/01/2021 09:54

Are these state issued goats or capitalist private sector?

It doesn't really matter if the neighbours have openly tried to incite coffee you need to contact the cops prevent programs.

Hand hold.

FWIW, OP, I'd want to move immediately if anyone asked me to join a street whatsapp group, so perhaps that will be their response too.

Indeed. The goat owners incited the op for coffee, and had a shot..... curiouser and curiouser. :-) Roast shoulder of goat is apparently very tasty. Janet Street Porter said so anyway.
ImsorryWilson · 31/01/2021 09:58

Another one wondering whether the street WhatsApp isn’t the bigger problem....

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 31/01/2021 09:58

but are they cute? picture needed. Grin
feel sorry for them if they don't f they don't have any shelter given how cold it's been. - but glad two now rather than one.

Rupertbeartrousers · 31/01/2021 09:58

Surely goats aren’t that loud... although can be smelly?

anotherlongwalk · 31/01/2021 09:58

YANBU if the goats are being noisy early in the morning, and as per pp, are they even supposed to have goats in a back garden?!

Regarding the mess of their garden, nothing much you can do about that. If they have goats then I'm envisioning what they will call a wild garden... handing it back to nature, which is incredibly good for local nature and wildlife, not so great for neighbours who like things tidy!
