Wobbel boards

Looking for something for DDs birthday (she will be 3) and I’m considering a wobbel board. DH isn’t keen as it’s a lot of money for a piece of wood. Anyone who owns one, are they worth the money? Would you consider a cheaper alternative?

They aren't exactly what I'd call fun. I have one that I used for physiotherapy to strengthen my ankles.
How about a skipping rope instead?

Mamadramallama · 30/01/2021 20:41

We have one and its used daily. I've a 2yo and 4yo. One of the best things we've bought them. Can't comment on cheaper versions, not even sure if there is any

2typesofjungle · 30/01/2021 20:43

We have one, got it two years ago. My 2yr old and 4yr old rarely even look at it.

Try a small kiddie trampoline with a bar to hold so it's safe to use.

or a plastic wobble cushion to help balance, from fitness outlets, Lidl, Aldi etc. on fitness promos.

I'm a cm and I really fancy one of these for my mindees. Have a look on Etsy for similar, I've found a nice one for £50. Hoping to get one for them this month.

My Dad made one for dc1 when she turned 2. He managed a woodland & was skilled at woodwork. It's still going strong & is still used daily (we've now got 5dc, the youngest is 3). Dc1 has already said it'll be going with her when she moves out Smile

Ours is well used. For wobbling (standing, standing forwards, on hands and feet), but also as a bridge/ramp for toy cars, propped up as a slide, as a seat, a step stool.
We have a circular plastic cushion (spiky) and a wooden circular wobble board (sand papery) that dh had for physio, but neither are as well used.

Do I dare wankel?!

bloodyhairy · 30/01/2021 21:14

What about one of the boards you get on wheels? The children I work with love them. Will try and get a pic.

Sorry, it wouldn't work, but they're called scooter boards if you're interested.

lovablequalities · 30/01/2021 21:21

My kids are 7, 5 and 3 and it gets used every day. It's been a good buy for a bit of bent wood. I'm sure a cheaper version would be good too but I never found one.

TheCanyon · 30/01/2021 21:22

I've got one for my back, all 4 of my dc are lethal on it. Unless they asked for it, It's surely a shit present though anyway isn't it?!

GinGella · 30/01/2021 21:23

We have one it's used sporadically but we have had it for many years and they hold their value! There is always the rocky board which is the same but cheaper and made in Cornwall if supporting local/UK businesses is your thing.

bloodyhairy · 30/01/2021 21:23

Pretty sure we have plastic wobble boards at school. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why they would have to be made of wood!

baffledcoconut · 30/01/2021 21:24

@GlamourBear depends on your thoughts on mainstream vegetables.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 30/01/2021 21:26

We have one, £17 from Amazon, its wooden with a hard bit underneath, I didn't want one of the ball type ones. My kids love it, we've only had it a couple of weeks but its still used daily.

ScrapThatThen · 30/01/2021 21:30

Good play equipment, bad present I think.

@ZigZagIntoTheBlue Is this a full sized one? I've never seen them that cheap.
Foldinthecheese · 30/01/2021 21:38

I got one at the beginning of the first lock down. I’ve got two 5yo and a 2yo. The 2yo likes it the most, but they all use it to slide off furniture, wobble, play floor is lava and roll things on it.

CorpusCallosum · 30/01/2021 21:42

We just got one for DD for her 2nd birthday (it's not a shit present 😉) it's great for sliding off the sofa, she's not a bouncer so a trampoline would have been ignored. Her core is a bit weak so I hope this will help her build it a little.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/01/2021 21:55

I thought a wobbel board is what was Rolf Harris used to play 'Tie Me Kangeroo Down, Sport'. I'm guessing it must be something else... Confused

kungfupannda · 30/01/2021 21:56

DS3 got one for Christmas a couple of years ago, and it's used most days in some capacity, even if it's just someone rocking on it while watching TV. The felt means it's just quiet enough not to be deeply irritating.

kungfupannda · 30/01/2021 21:56

Oh, and DP and I both lie over it to stretch our backs!

SleepingMammoth · 30/01/2021 21:56

@baffledcoconut I'm partial to radish Smile
